I've been a Benedictine Oblate for 43 years now. It has been the most consistent thing in my life and a blessing beyond measure.

Thank you, Fr, for such an enlightening, deeply insightful talk. I am a widow, a great grandmother, and a Benedictine Oblate within the World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM), a 'monastery without walls'. Oblatehood is also an option especially (but not exclusively) for the laity. It invites us to live by the Rule of St Benedict and by the three promises of stability, obedience, and conversatio building our lives around daily prayer and the Word together with our brethren in community (not residential). In the WCCM, Oblates also commit (a privileged gift!) to twice-daily periods of contemplative prayer (in stillness and silence). It is a narrow path leading to freedom and fullness of life. 🙏🎶💞

Hello Father - Like yourself I was christened Church of England at four years old went to the Church school which was attached to the church but later on in life I had a brilliant mother-in-law and she was my mum, her father was English but her mother was a orthodox Roman Catholic. saw her devotion to God, and Jesus I then became Catholic to try and save my marriage but when she passed I just couldn't continue with the verbal and mental abuse. When I lived in Malta I went into the St Julian's nunnery and spoke to a lovely down to earth nun she told me all about your order that was almost twenty six years old. Now I want to learn so I can serve the Carmelite society

I enjoy your videos immensely because they deal with the mystical and monastic traditions.

As imperfect as we maybe.. I find hope in treating the whole of life as a prayer.. Thanks Fr. for this video, the simplicity and practicality of ora et labora is a good grounder especially in times of personal and worlwide turmoil.. Just to continue to commit to do what we can in forms of prayer and forms of labor to make this world a better and sacred place.. I was surprisingly divinely led here to this site after reading the news about the journey of British ship and troops towards peace building to aid in upholding international order.. May as ordinary people, we live out our prayers in communion with other people of goodwill in different walks of life worldwide in ways we can, whatever religions we may belong to.. May we find inspiration in the likes of Churchill who as imperfect as he maybe, prayed and asked God's help and studied and prepared what he can and led the world in defeating one of the most demonic groups in our history.. This video made me realize how subconsciously, the soul of Ora et Labora was very much alive in Churchill.. Thank you and have a blessed day Fr.. It's good to be reminded to stay being hopeful by putting prayers first.. Im a domestic violence victim.. I used to be very prayerful in a traditional way, rosary, breviary, daily masses..but covid happened and traumas from paternal abuses weakened my health greatly.. I learned from people like Churchill, the value of rest, but in the process of resting, the lack of better legal justice for sexual abuse victims hit me hard and my daily prayer routine suffered..

Edwin, God opens doors no man can close. Keep loving, learning, and representing Jesus Christ where you are now. You are being tested and prepared for your vocation by the Holy Spirit. Read and memorize 1st Peter 5:6.
