Summary:
Childhood adversity exposure is estimated to account for 30-50% of the risk for childhood onset mood disorders. Adversity is associated with poorer response to front-line behavioral interventions, though the reasons are unclear. Research on the role of adversity in cognitive and behavioral processes relevant to interventions for youth will be presented.
Objectives:
The activity is designed to help the learner:
1. Describe the risk for youth mood disorders associated with childhood adversity exposure.
2. Explain the effects of childhood adversity on learning-based cognitive and behavioral processes in youth.
3. Develop hypotheses about the role of childhood adversity in evidence-based treatment processes
