I was waiting for your review because I knew you would answer the most important questions while other youtubers didn't. Thank you very much again! Love this channel. 👊🏼
Thank you so much for this comment and for continuing to watch. Keep creating! 👊👍
About damn time we can load our third party plugins with no issues. I had Pro Tools First and I literally used it twice in two years. That being said, I'm glad Avid is making an actual effort to no alienate their core base like they did with that God awful PT1. Great review, thanks for answering my question.
In fact, I make Pro Tools Intro's track limit work for me as a "mastering DAW"! My daily driver DAW is Harrison Mixbus and when I want to share my tracks with my producer friend, I import my MixBus stems into Pro Tools Intro and save the project in it's native format. Makes it real easy to share with my friend who uses Pro Tools Ultimate! Works well for me!
Pretty sure that most of the Air synths can commonly had for $5-$10 regularly. I have some but rarely use them. Seems they’re always ‘on sale’ lol
Thanks for all the great videos. You do a great job explaining everything for this newbie.
Nice review.
You do a good job of answering important questions!
That said:
Can you export your projects to wave/mp3 and separate stems in the intro version?
Hi Zane, thank you for this video. I have downloaded Intro as I never tried PT before. IMO it's difficult for a beginner, S1 or Cubase have a more intuitive workflow. Configuration is harder too. Nevertheless PT is a good daw.
Very informative walkthrough! I just learned today this daw even existed. I will certainly be trying it out tomorrow for sure. Do you know if it’s possible to change the overall background color? I would prefer a lighter color such as off white in the background. It is not a deal breaker if not. Just wondering
I know in Pro Tools Studio you can change it so I’m pretty sure you can change it in Intro. You can use the classic theme which is more of a white and brighter color.
Awesome thanks! Would you be able to quickly check in your protools daw intro if the background can in fact be changed by any chance? This would be greatly appreciated.
Any limited function on using session templates? I was having students get protools first when it launched, but the lack of being able to create or use session templates was a nightmare.
This Intro version is perfect for me and my electric guitar just starting up. I mean one track for my bass guitar leaves 7 tracks for the guitar which is more than enough for everything from rock to very heavy metal. Usually I think it sounds more live and organic by just having few tracks of the guitar at the same time anyways. Like recording one left , one right and sometimes a third track for harmonies.
Anyone knows if Avid Pro Tools INTRO comes with pre recorded drumloops or drumtracks If I just want to start jamming with my guitar to some drums without the need to create my own drumloops and grooves ? Would be nice for times you just want to get started playing to some drums immediately.
If there are drumtracks like these that comes with the program, where do I find them ? What do I search for ?
Thanks in advance.
Question.. although “having” a 28 track set up only 8 of those are able to record vocals correct? If so u would ultimately need to upgrade to the paid subscription?
Great review! What's the size of the program installed? Thanks!
Hi, I'm a Win10 user and after the installatîon I have 2,19 GB for Pro Tools Intro + 1,35 GB for Avid Effects + around 300MB for Avid Link app, Avid Codecs and Avid Clients Services.
i have pt intro and still evaluating, but expand is not available for me and hate it how it looks. Wish it looked like the old pt or regular one
Are we still limited to 3 projects only?
Pro Tools First dropped that limitation 3 or 4 years ago and they did not implement that in this version. You are saving the projects locally not in the cloud so you can have however many projects you want.
will it work with any audio interface??
I haven’t tried it with all interfaces but I’ve used it with about 5 and they worked. It also works with your computers built in sound card so it should work with any audio interface.
will this work with the m box mini? after nearly 20 years running pt 8.0.4 I've upgraded to a Mac m1 an need a version of pt that will work on my Mac and wondering if I also need to get a new interface as well or will the m box mini still work??@@AudioTechTV
Perfect for home studio
Thank you very much, but I encountered a problem when I open the Protools Intro program, and I get an error message when downloading some plugins, which are very important plugins, such as Waves plugins, FabFilter, etc. When I open the session, I cannot see these plugins, so what is the solution?
Only AAX? or can you load VSTs as well?
I’m using blue cat patchwork’s and yes I’m using my vst’s and aax working fine
good work king, love you
Realistically as I don’t make beats I just record my vocals on 2 track beats this is all I need right?
Would you know if the loop rec clips function is disabled, it doesn't seem to work for me. Maybe im not doing something right but ive only tried the midi loop rec. Help!
I get what I can load my plugins into this intro version PT. But I dont get it about virt instruments...can I load any AAX instruments or only use inside this xpand or what it was in video. Thank you
Virtual instruments are plugins so yes you can load any AAX instrument into PT Intro.
@@AudioTechTV Very thank you!!! Now final step need understand how to install from their app the PT intro) can't get it...
@@AudioTechTV Forgot last ask: intro version have the same quality like a pro? Or lower after bounce mix...
Great review! Do you know if you can install the GrooveCell drum machine into Pro Tools Intro?
Hi Bro, I don't know why, I guess it must be a limitation of this version, but even though I have my plugins installed, PT intro doesn't read any of my instrument VSTs and it has also given me problems with others. It would be nice to know. Cheers
It’s not a limit with this version of Pro Tools. All Pro Tools versions use AAX plugins not VSTs. A lot of plugins come with the option to install the AAX version so you’ll need to install that in addition to The VST version.
@@AudioTechTV Oops sorry, I meant AAX plugins. I always install all versions including AAX because PT is special. They are all in the corresponding avid folder, at /Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio, but no, it doesn't read anything from Toontrack or Arturia. No instrument recognizes me within PT, only Effect Plugins T-T
Do you know if this version works with EUCON? I say this because it is the bridge to use
avid control application. I found out that from
PT Artist if it works but the page of
AVID doesn't mention anything for PT Intro...
Cheers!
It says on the Pro Tools Intro page "EUCON Control Protocol Support"
If you go to www.avid.com/resource-center/introducing-pro-tools-intro and look at the section under "What's Included in Pro Tools Intro" you'll see it mentioned there. It's the only spot that it's mentioned so it's easy to overlook.
Can i use presets on this?
cool. can it be licensed on 2 machines?
Hello there... Ive got a question. Ive Installed my plugin-ins like SSL J9000, auto tune pro x, and fire child in Pro tools Intro, now when i start pro tools intro it loads properly but the plugin-ins i've installed they say, the Following plugin-ins are not valid for 64bit. But am using them on another computer with Pro tools 12.5 version.... Please help on this one really need to use this new pro tools.
Thank you for this video
How to fix.
In the audio source, track menu, the icons symbolizing for " ( R ),,,it's blank ( S ) ( M )
Second, it's blank,,no any indicator..
Help..
i use it for audio only and my mpc or fl studio to make my beats . 8 audio tracks is more than enough
Awesome, it's amazing they giving this away for Free,👍👍👍
I’m having trouble installing. It keeps saying disable cookies to download I lok license. I have it disabled in safari. Do you have any advice
so i can use 8 audio tracks mono and 8 audio tracks stereo or 8 at all? and how many aux buss for reverb , paralel comp and stuff like that? i use 12.5 full is it worth it change for this free version? or stay with the 12.5 full, ty man
Hey! awesome to know! but quick question! what do you mean getting trunkaded? in 4:50 about if you open a project from pro tools full into pro tools intro, are they still funtioning if i try to consolidate them in 8 tracks?
It will chop off all audio tracks after 8 and chop off all midi instrument tracks after 8. So it only keeps the first 8 tracks of either type. All the other tracks will not be available.
This is Dope
Thank you
Thanks Z.
Nice to hear from you Vatche. Thank you for checking out the video. Keep creating! 👊👍
Thank you for this interesting video but I have my plugins on my ilk and it's connected to the Mac but it seems to be that it wasn't detected by protools first in order to detect "WAVES" plugins that I do have so will you kindly inform me how can I fix this problem in order to be detected?
Pro tools uses AAX plugins that need to be installed to a specific folder. If you’ve installed waves plugins onto a sub driver from another computer then you will need to run waves central on your current computer and install them onto the actual computer. Once AAX plugins are installed on the computer Pro tools will recognize them the next time you start it.
@@AudioTechTV thank you for your reply as this is exactly what I did but it seems to be that since mac changed from intel to M1 and maybe they changed something with pro tools as well as I have installed it but there was a warning that appears that waves plugins doesn’t work with the new version of pro tools so what shall I do?
I have the latest version of Pro Tools and it works with Waves plugins but I’m on PC as far as I know Waves support the Apple Silcon processors so that shouldn’t be an issue as the M series has been out for a few years now.
If you go into your Waves central app. Into the settings area, there are some things that allow you to fix and completely reinstall the Waves plugins. I’ve had to do that a few times and it works.
I have 2 questions. Can I have both PTFirst and Intro installed on my computer or should I delete PTF before downloading Intro? And do you know if PT Intro will see and open my Orange Tree Samples Evolution Rock Standard guitar plugins? Thanks.
You can have both installed on your computer. I’m not familiar with that plugin but if you installed the AAX version of it then you will be able to use it in Pro Tools Intro.
Sir what is the size of the pro tools intro
I have ADD....lol...did you mention clip gain or lack thereof in this?
can you bounce a song?
Im not surprised that I received a prompt saying the instrument wasnt included and it took me to a place to "pay" for it ...
Wait, so this will cut my track limitations from Pro Tools First by half? Am I deducing correctly - this major detail - Avid or this video don't mention anywhere ?
Yes it will. But if you already have Pro Tools First and you’re happy with it then you can continue using it no need to grab this.
@@AudioTechTV Thanks, that's better advice than I got from Avid saying "Hey, there's a new version of Pro Tools you should download".
Never been asked if I wanted a downgrade before.
Thank you sir!
Does it work on windows?
I notice it puts an "Avid Link" in the system tray. Does this require a constant internet connection to work?
If you have a physical iLok with the licence on it then I don't think you will need the internet at all. If you are using the cloud ilok license you will need the internet at startup as it checks ilok cloud when you launch. But I went offline once I opened Pro Tools Intro and I had no issues with creating a project, recording, editing and saving. So you only need the internet at startup if you are using ilok cloud.
What about the learning curve? I have zero experience with DAWS.
Pro Tools is pretty steep but that's pretty common for DAWs in general.
Thankfully there are many great Pro tools tutorials around here on UA-cam!
Is melodyine the full version?how does it work?
Melodyne Essential is not included with Pro Tools Intro. It is included with all paid versions of Pro Tools. Melodyne Essential is not the full version of Melodyne it is a feature limited version. However they typically offer discounts to anyone that has a Melodyne Essential License.
Pro Tools Intro does have the new ARA 2 Melodyne capabilities so if you have your own license of Melodyne you can use the integrated features in Pro Tools Intro. This integration makes it much more intuitive with the Pro Tools workflow making it feel like Melodyne is actually a part of the program not just a plugin.
Thank you 🙏🏾
I have a Question
Xpends2 have Malwere I Use window PC ?
If you download xpand2 from Acid’s site or any reputable site it doesn’t have malware. If you get it from some torrent or somewhere sketchy, who knows what it might have.
THANK YOU!!!
I love this pro tool
Just so you know this is not me responding. Looks like someone is using my logo.
Is this the new name for ProTools Xpress?
It is very similar to PT Express but not just a renamed package as it does have differences. Plus it’s at least available for free to everyone not just Mbox users.
5:54 - can't you just add your exported audio from Pro Tools Intro to your video editing software and synch it there with your video? I'm curious for UA-cam covers and vlogs in particular.
Yes you can do what you want with your audio in other programs. So bring it into video editing software if you want that’s fine.
@AudioTechTV ahaaa, so the problem is just that you NEED another program for the video, rather than combining everything in Pro Tools. Got it.
@Terran720 yes. Other versions of Pro Tools have a video track. The free version doesn’t. But you can use your audio any way that you want after you render it.
@AudioTechTV thanks for replying! My question might have sounded weird, but I am very new to DAWs and everything is new.
Thanks sir i will downlod
What's the difference between audio and instrument tracks?
Audio tracks are for recording audio in from your audio interface things like a microphone, or guitar plugged into your interface.
An instrument track is for a virtual instrument. Like a synth plugin, a drum plugin or something like that.
@@AudioTechTV I see. So that means you can also drag samples into the Audio tracks. But if Instrument tracks are for VST plugins, what are the MIDI tracks for? Aren't VST instruments played with midi controlers or the piano roll?
@@maomallows In the olden days of Pro Tools (before version 7) you used to need to create a midi track and an aux track to control a virtual instrument. The midi track is just for midi information, you can't add plugins directly onto it.
Now that we have instrument tracks, in this free version you can use 4 midi tracks to send info to the 4 aux tracks that have 4 more instruments on them. Midi tracks can also be used to control external hardware that accepts midi input like hardware synths, lighting, some guitar pedals, and things like that. So not as ideal as an instrument track but it can still expand on the limitations found in Pro Tools Intro.
I was a PT user for a long time and it was a great alternative to crappy Cubase, but now with Reaper available as really (almost) free, this POS is really mind-blowingly asinine.
I tried reaper. It didn’t seem to be close to Pro Tools. I am sure with more time I would like it better. But nothing beats pro tools for accoustic audio that I have seen.
@@DaleC1980 What does actually "close" and "acoustic audio" means and why would Pro Tools be better at it? It is a DAW like any other, it maybe has more options than Pro Tools, and have less intrusive workflow, but both do exactly the same underneath.
Hi, can we import a video into Pro Tools Intro ?
At 5:55 in the video, the chapter called video track limitation, I say that there is no video track in Pro Tools Intro.
@@AudioTechTV Thank you ! After a quick search, I found that only Pro Tools Studio and Flex are open to this.
thank you
Gracias por la revisión. Yo trabajo con Studio One pro y Cubase 12pro pero quiero probar pro tools y ésta versión gratuita es una muy buena opción. Gracias y un saludo
Can it use rewire?
It does include the rewire plugin/tool. So it should work. I haven’t tried it but I don’t know why they would include it if it didn’t work.
If your going to build a beat around all audio or all midi in that respect. I dont see how your going to get it done with 8 tracks. Lets say you make a beat with audio like snare on one track , kick on another , Guitar on another and want to add multiple takes of vocal audio tracks like verse , hook so on and so forth . Your definately going to have to sacrifice and to be creative .
@@AudioTechTV I can't download PT into that avid link app says cloud client services update required whats that? and it says 4.99 a month
i like to mix samples thank you for feedback
can you use autotune with it ?
yeah it work like the full pro tools with limited tracks which is more than enough .
Thanks for the video. Good info. But 8 audio tracks is mostly not enough even for the drum kit if you play rock. But if you use a drum machine…(not common in rock). Sure it could work.
Crazy this if free because firstly Ableton is limited to 16 tracks and you have to pay 100 dollars but this, this is free and has 28 tracks
cool from avid since it is such xpensive
It is very nice that this is free. For me 8 audio tracks and 8 instrument tracks is typically enough. It's definitely more open than the free Ableton Live Lite. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍
There's one hack for using the AAX plugins in other DAWs lol. Just save that audio and move it over
I was waiting for the ARA melodyne 6:49🤦🏾♂
no video track! that stop me
studio one is better. artist is free when you buy a presonusn interface and its unlimited tracks
Is it my imagination or was my thoughtful, critical comment just deleted?
UA-cam can be very finicky about trigger words and phrases. The longer your comment the more susceptible it is to being automatically removed and put into a approval folder on the content creator's side.
Fun fact: Dr. Dre uses this
A wow, a whole 8 tracks! What is this, 1990? I swear Avid is a dinosaur that needs to be brought down a peg.
If you want more than 8 tracks pay for a higher version or if the budget doesn’t allow for that just use a different DAW it sounds like you aren’t a fan of Pro Tools anyway so not getting their full DAW for free shouldn’t bother you .
@@AudioTechTV The point is just how much of a Dinosaur protools is - the fact that even the highest level of protools is limited to 2,048 tracks - its just an example of how old the code-base of the program is. I use ProTools Intro, ONLY because I need iZotopes Dialogue Match, and only use it for that one purpose. So many other programs are much better than ProTools at general editing, that it amazes me people still pay up to $100 a month for it.
It's like film editors still using Avid Media Composer - it boggles my mind why people still pay tons of money to Avid for programs that haven't seen a base-code update to the programs since the 90's.
I think a lot of people make music with musical instruments and talents. If it sounds good then the code used in the program really doesn’t matter. I can see how programmers may see programs as old and outdated but if it’s still getting the job done and outputting tons of hit songs in studios all over the world then people will continue to use it.
I also think music producers get used to their workflows and if Pro Tools were to drastically change those workflows every few years just so they could update code then I imagine those producers would not be happy.
Ah track limited below 32 and AAX only.
In other words useless.
Like... when the competition offers unlimited tracks and no limits to third party instruments for free, this is just unacceptable.
Shame on you Pro Tools, the Pro Tools First allowed 16 tracks, but this version allows only 8! I am gonna use Cakewalk to get unlimited number of tracks for free.
Had to uninstall my pro tools first cause it no longer let me clear any space for projects i was creating.
