Form that piece you created.....at the typical length, profile, and thickness of your finished samples....how many knives could you make with that one piece?
I've seen people turn 5ton log splitters into forge presses with good results. I'm no expert but would imagine a good shop press would be suitable. My only blacksmithing experience is making a railway tack anvil (can see a video on my channel of you want to see) which I normally panel beat cold metals on so I could be wrong mind

Can that initial set done straight out of the forge on the hydraulic press be achieved with a simple shop press?
