I remember the man at 1min 34s on far left. Ken Pursell. Used to go to the Coach Hose church on Wellington Road, often seen witnessing and giving gospel tracts out at the entrance to the shopping centre. Always wondered what happened to him. I knew him in the early 70s.
Great video, I wish they'd never been allowed to build those concreate abominations known as 'shopping centers' . The architecture before WW2 was so much nicer. I grew up in Cheadle and have spent quite some time looking at old photos of the village, and it was so much nicer years ago. From what my parents say it's been hit very hard in recent years and a lot of shops have closed like as happened everywhere else. My wife and I used to enjoy going to Stockport back in the 90s, we liked the shops on the backstreets like Little Underbank and that area and also the Market.
Hello Nikko thanks for your wonderful comment. Unfortunately Stockport is nothing like it use to be, they a building apartments everywhere in the town centre and it’s full of coffee shops and eateries. The market is just the indoor bit know all the outside stalls have gone. 🙁☹️😖
@@Stockybloke Yes I hate the tower blocks, it ruins the place, it was the first thing I noticed. They could have made the center so much nicer if they would keep the buildings inline with the older ones, they don't have to go crazy on it just now build those repulsive big square buildings that look totally out of place. I think the Stockport council is run terribly, there are so many office buildings available for rent all over the country building even more to attract companies is probably not a good idea. I hope they didn't borrow the money for it. I dream for the day we have sensible people in charge of this country who want it too look great and not turn everything into a 'Wallmart'. I moved away from Stockport about 7 or 8 years ago and just don't want to go back and see things looking even worse, every now and then I do a 'tour' of various places where I've lived to see what it looks like, even Davenport where my old house was has changed a lot.
@@JagdgeschwaderXI disagree because I actually think it's getting better all the time, the apartment blocks are bringing people back into the town, the Market and Underbank are thriving with loads of trendy bars and café's. The new bus station has added some much needed greenery as has the development at the station, we all look back fondly at photos from our childhood but in truth it was a depressing time.
