The amount of joy i have had watching league of legends throughout my life is amazing, the ups and downs... i never expected this f2p game that i played because i was a broke teenager to be such a huge part of my life. i literally grew up with league
Dom showing respect do DL and feeling for his situation in Worlds is immensely respectable. Can dislike his takes in recent times but the player will always deserve respect for what he has done
I remember just watching the clock so I could get the fuck out of school. The moment the bus dropped me off, dashed as fast as I could to go home. Immediately queue up some league with homies in the Skype call. Get hyped watching LCS. Good times man.
It's great to see MarkZ's career path. He seems to be actually doing stuff. Not just letting it die, but fighting with all the tools given to him to make it better
I forgot what happened. I think his family stepped in over some drama and he just left. Not sure if a team wanted him or he just didn't want the environment anymore.
For me season 3 worlds when skt won for the first time, NA got evaporated in first round. Uzi was playing Vayne with Annie support. Faker was breaking people’s brains on ap gragas (the old one with like combined 500% ap ratio). Top lane was shyvana vs renekton and aatrox was in the jungle. So cool.
So many memories in this clip. LCS used to be so hype even more hype than EU LCS back then. Staying late just to be able to watch LCS from Europe used to be so normal and enjoyable nowadays I do not even watch the playoffs sometimes. LCS used to have so many big names/personalities and the quality of the gameplay was so much better, too.
I'm european but actually followed NA pretty closely (I'm a native anglophone) and man 2013-2019 was by far the best era it had. It could compete entertainment wise, had the skill level at some points (C9 runs & TL msi final). Covid pretty much broke the region.
From EU, loved watching the first few years of LCS. How refreshing watching C9 was, how fun all the young squads were, how good the broadcast was still at that time, how insufferable TSM was. Franchising genuinely murdered what was exciting about LoL at the time, and didn't even fix the long term monetary issues that were the reasoning for introducing Franchising. That and the perpetual decline in adaptability, increase in nepotism, and the horrendous fascination NA has with seeing active competition as a negative, have made following it completely void of any joy.
I think it's turning around. The money coming in killed what made LCS great. It was organic because it felt like the start of the first legitimate professional video game league (at least for me, I know like Starcraft & CounterStrike had popular professional leagues way before). But it wasnt "professional" in the business sense. it was kinda janky, definitely compared to the product it is now, it was almost born out of the petty rivalry between Hotshot and Regi. And both of them actually being players as well as owners on the two most popular teams was a crazy dynamic that never happens in traditional sports. And players streaming because they could make more money, but in the wild west (Riot had to tell sneaky to stop saying "welcome to my butholle" fucking lol 😆)It had personality naturally because of its organic formation. Jack worked for TSM and was like oh wait I can just do this better, Regi is ??? and still making that $$$, and C9 was born. Now the money is gone & it was one of my favorite splits in a while. The rise of Yappa feels like the early days. I don't know why, it's litterally just shit talk I guess. But I feel something changing in the LCS as a whole.
The real play after he leaked strats one year would have been to leak fake strats the next year, then they woulda practiced for something you weren't even gonna do...as NA I'd be trying everything I can think of at this point.
That "early smite from Santorin".. wasn't it not about Baron healing but something like Baron fucking absolutely randomly leveled up, mid-fight, totally throwing off the Smite calculation? Something something, Danny gets a Penta? And then Riot made a statement about Baron will no longer ever Level Up if the game detects it's actively being attacked?
During the genesis/daydream section you can feel the passion NA had to make it to the top. How often the disappointment fueled the region. Now it consumes us. The faith is gone and maybe the region will never recover and get back to how it once was, but im so thankful to have experienced the genesis/daydream portion and how exciting league could really be. It was peak.
As a huge C9 fan since day one, I cant help but feel that we wasted most of sneaky's career pairing him with mid supports. That C9 squad with zeyzal got to fucking semis. Imagine a good support, man. The best he ever played with was Lemon and Smoothie.
Everyone remembers the TSM loss to 2016 but honestly in 2017 they looked stronger, had an easier group, and not only did they give flash wolves their only win, but also lost a tiebreaker to misfits afterwards. Less memorable, but more disappointing
Crazy to think how many grew up with this era of League. C9 Gauntlet, 2018 C9 worlds run, TL vs IG, soo many memories FeelsStrongMan To another 10 more years of banger series PogChamp
1000% agreed with the statement of you cant try to balance playing the game professionally with an actual life and think you're going to be the best, I truly believe we have it in us here in NA to perform its just takes someone with insane drive to be the best at League something like a Michael Jordon, Lebron James, Tiger Woods, Tom Brady type who is a little crazy but just lives the game.
no iwd gragas hecarim highlight moment 0/10 trash video booooooooooooooo all jokes aside, nice to have a video like this, LCS really used to be something
The most important thing for any performer/Athlete that wants to be the best, is to be OBSESED with whatever it is you're competing in. The Best isn't healthy and balanced. The Best is Passion and Obsession.
I never watched old league, but old league, especially western league, felt so much more exciting. The only exciting pro stories now are lck like t1 or maybe g2
Frankly all these changes come off as a bad omen. It’s analogous to when a team swaps a bunch of players out throughout a split as a Hail Mary when they’re clearly going to crash and burn.

I actually started watching league in season 3, so season 3-4 kinda same. Im from EU aswell, I actually loved LCS everything that was going on was great, the storylines, narratives everything it was a joy, note the word "was". I disagree with you that since season 8 or season 9 so 2018 to 2019 for you that dont know how the seasons work, (and note that i also watched EU LCS and LCS but mostly LCS), but in that time and after that time EU had grown so much bigger and the production started becoming so much better it was literally hard to watch NA. Im not talking about their international success, we all know that EU clears that hard, im talking about the production and the "new" casters they decided to get and then the import show started its like... NA at that point wasnt dead region (yet), but it was slowly going in that direction. Like after rebranding to LEC they started making songs (some are bangers), fan content, and most importantly, they stayed true to their fans in EU, nothing worse that you having to cheer for a chinese import that doesnt even know how to speak english like...? Not original NA pro who is local and you can connect with. LEC also got Caedrel which was actually huge for the scene, while LCS got the woman that we dont speak of, (blood runs thru his veins) icant plz kill me xdd. Markz is trying his best, i hope that one day in the future LCS can become what they used to be but there is a long way to go. Fans are just not interested in NA its super sad to see. EUs tier 2 league LFL, like academy league, had more viewers than the whole LCS spring split combined.. There is a long way to go but lets keep our hopes up.
@@leevimasalin2301 i got back to watching lec and overall league events because of caedrel, but the first person to introduce me to costreams was rekkles during 2022 worlds. i also grown fond of lec pop quizes. the content got definitely better during last years, but in terms of rivalization seeing g2 ruling EU for years now isnt very satisfying for a viewer, especially for me since im fnatic fan since season 4. watching fnatic who have been kings of europe from season 1 to season 8, to get overthroned by ocelote organization (letting caps go was the nail in the coffin) is very sad and if fnatic doesnt make some fundamental changes im worried they will get evaporated just like tsm or clg. its been 6 years since their last won split and as of today they had been bested by na team in bo5 for the first time in history, which is a very sad sign. ya i remember the infamous female host (forgot the name) making fun of doublelift vs tsm drama on live stage. but scratch that, na had super content back in earlier seasons, i still sometimes come back to NA casters vs doom bots match, or tsm vs c9 urf match. i miss those events coz they were fun as hell. even later on when na hosted this match where tyler played with phreak, it was fun too. hell, even during older seasons worlds we had famous players who hadnt qualified for worlds to be on analyst desk which was fun to watch inbetween matches, nowadays when the games end i just do anything but watch those fillers. there is a lot of stuff from early days that nowadays league broadcats could learn from. some things were super fun for viewers and got abandoned for some reason. nowadays broadcast runners need to go back in time and look for fun aspects that older league with less budget did right and fans enjoyed it. i would start off with annual lcs legends showdown or some all stars event (idk why that got abandoned too, it was fun as well) as for the future of lcs and league esports in general im not sure if things can go better. viewership is gonna go down because playerbase is getting older and as for attracting younger people to league im not sure how things are going on in that front, considering there are games like valorant, not to mention other game studios, and league is known for both toxic community and the game itself being toxic. the whole rebranding every season thing isnt helpful for establishing loyal fanbases either i think.
@@Xabeutt Omg you bring back so cool memories, also where are all the all stars events, "1v1 me bro" like we havent had a 1v1 king in the world since 2019 if im correct? Like i also said, early days of LCS was super great where is all that. And side note i feel you for the FNC G2 thing.
@@leevimasalin2301 from what ive read all stars diminished because of some post covid travel restrictions, viewership decline and pros wanting to have time off after exhausting season (there were instances of some players like rekkles giving up his spot for someone else) which is understandable but the event was fun and its sad that its no longer around. i mean league broadcasts and events have suffered over the years especially due to covid. worlds 2018 finals arena had capacity of 50k and last years finals held only 17k. and idk about others but i dont watch any league tournaments these days without costreams - i feel like the meta is too boring to watch, having the same exact champions every game isnt fun to watch for me without fun commentary of caedrel or other costreamers. ksante alone had like 70% presence in msi, not to mention ranged top laners, lane swaps and all that unfun bullshit. lpl this split is flirting with fearless draft which should make the games less bombarded by the same exact champions every game. this is 100% up to riot to make the meta non stale and therefor more enjoyable to watch. msi this year got WAY more interesting in quarter to semi finals when players started pulling off picks like karthus, nida. everyone barfs when they see lucian nami for the 2302930 time. remember back till season 5 or 6 we had IEM tournament in february. it was a chance for na teams like tsm to finally be successful on international stage. there wouldnt be xpeke backdoor without iem tournament. even faker legendary zed vs zed outplay came to life because lck back in the day had a rule that game 5 would be a blind pick. there was some kind of magic to older league where everything wasnt cooped into regional leagues, msi and worlds for all year long. all stars, rift rivals, iems, dream hacks. etc those things sadly wont come back.

there is a lot of stuff from early days that nowadays league broadcats could learn from. some things were super fun for viewers and got abandoned for some reason. nowadays broadcast runners need to go back in time and look for fun aspects that older league with less budget did right and fans enjoyed it. i would start off with annual lcs legends showdown or some all stars event (idk why that got abandoned too, it was fun as well)
as for the future of lcs and league esports in general im not sure if things can go better. viewership is gonna go down because playerbase is getting older and as for attracting younger people to league im not sure how things are going on in that front, considering there are games like valorant, not to mention other game studios, and league is known for both toxic community and the game itself being toxic. the whole rebranding every season thing isnt helpful for establishing loyal fanbases either i think.
So what about this video explains why league esports should be dead?
This just looked like a nostalgia trip
its bait, the title is misleading on purpose to make you watch a hype video lol. still a good video
@@mister_snoogles9031 yeah not wrong, i watched most of it but mostly to see doms reactions to things i guess
Bring back dash pleeeaassseeeeee man. We need him

TBF LPL will also going to the same downward spiral if it weren't for 2018 the year of LPL happen
Old LCS was the League of Homies. But we could never win shit... 😂
It really should. It's done nothing but regress since season 6.
i mean moist has an esports team so it would only make sense that he'd atleast know OF the LCS since it was 1 of the first.
faker is so crazy saying that completely deadpan, he really hates NA lmao
Dyrus is a god damn legend
g2 trick tried the trick2g strat? :D

100% on putting everything into these things to be the best. Look at Faker. Dude has no personality, no hobbies. He likes water, reading, and LoL.
