Why would you go live in another country if you don't like the food, speak the language, or even understand the culture..... Makes me wonder why they are even in Korea to begin with..

I have visited around 35 countries so far and I have never learnt each language country (or just the basic words : "Hello", "Thank you") because the tourism language is English all around the world. In all of these countries, I just speak English. So my mother tongue is not English, locals neither (in non English-speaking countries) so talking in English is actually a neutral zone. I make some efforts to communicate with you thanks to a language which is not mine, you have to do the same also. In addition, I don't expect locals to speak my own language.

I agree with that, not much Korean speak English. I have been to Korea first time in 2014, and second time is 2023.
At 2014, I have not good impression at South Korea. Because I get lost all the time, no one gonna help you if you different on that time. I don’t know how to order the order, no pictures on restaurants. I have to point to people next to me, and eat something I don’t know every day. They’re a few coffee shop around, and the quality is not worth for price. But luckily, I met some friend at hostel and roam around with them. It made my two week at Korea is not bad.
I have been to Korea last March for my second time. This time made me so surprised, I really happy even if Google map is doesn’t work over there. I went back to same hostel, but different owner now. I choose to stay in the middle of Seoul, it’s easy to walk around. I impressed that most of the restaurant have pictures and English menu. And all the palace is easy to go. Most of Korean that I met can speak English, because of study aboard or born and rest in another country. I have plan to go back again next two year.

As a Korean, Korean have studied English education for 12 years, but Korean still focus on grammar and literacy as a means of pre-modern reading and college entrance exams. What's more regrettable is that most parents use private academies for entrance exams without saying that English should be excluded from entrance exams.
I hope Korean can speak English conversation with confidence even if it is a simple combination even if the grammar is wrong. And I hope Koreans don't talk shyly and evasively. It's a foreign language!!
These are the two unfortunate eternal problems of Korea😂😂

Im korean american that lived in south korea for a few years. My impressions (the good and bad no filter):
Cant drink tap water. Lack of public trash cans, recyling system using government colored bags to minimize waste. cannot flush toilet paper down the toilet but throw used paper in a trashcan, many squat toilets still around. Two dating apps popular for foreigners is tinder and meef, so many old people outside the ciites like a retirement home on the streets, lowest birth rate in the world, highest suicide rates in the world, koreans will check air quality levels daily on the phone and wear a mask if there a high level of yellow dust, dangerous driving, streets are so safe children will play at night with no parents at parks, easy to make friends with fellow foreingers, controlling parents, normal to see adult singles living with parents, koreans are workaholics by default, public transportation is excellent and cheap, fast pace lifestyle, koreans obsession with what foreigners think of korea, old koreans bumping into people randomly without apologizing, koreans are known to drink a lot, koreans are known to be brutally honest at times, children study hard to the point of child abuse, huge age gap where old koreans grew up in a totally different country than korea today, many old people living in poverty selling gum or fruit on the streets, extremely hot in summers extremely cold in winters, never run out of things to do in the cities, all males served in the military, gender tensions among koreans, many churches and temples in the cities.
Overall i love my time in korea, i been going back throughout my life and seen how the country changed so much. A year in korea feels like 2 years in other countries to me (i live in germany now) because so much happens, everything is so fast paced, and so much to see... it slows down how fast life seems to go by.

    • @vaccinatedanti-vaxxer

@@Duedrengen100 I was stationed in camp Carroll then camp Humphreys back in 2018 to 2020. I was born in seoul tho but left in 1989. I wasn’t trying to be negative but so many foreigners say Korea isn’t what they thought. Gotta take the good with the bad to really love a country I think. I actually plan on moving to Korea and opening a business for tourists there.
Every country I been to I can list the good and bad. I also like it in Germany more than Oklahoma (I’m from Virginia) but there are things here too I don’t like. However, Germans are quick to tell me how America can get better. While I think Germany can improve too, i don’t feel it’s my place to change the country as a temporary resident.
