Say hello to KRIMH and HARAKIRI FOR SKY everybody! How do you like the drum tone? 🤘
Such a good overview on getting the right selection of shells and cymbals. Always love the room sound you get there and there's a ton of energy in Krimh's playing that you captured with the choice of mics.
I hope you paid him well in cold Almdudler? 🤘🤘
Great drummer!
@@deadmaydie He's so precise but has a great groove
Hello Krimh! Really love the tones!!!
Awesome stuff! Those tom mics are so cool! Those drums sound amazing!!!!
Wait... they made an actual person out of this plugin?! 🤯
Haha! I think so.
The future is wild!
It’s cake.
crazy times to be alive 😆
thats the power of AI
Thank you for having me! I had a more than a „blast“ recording drums with you. 🤘🏻
Come back soon!
So good! Loved this!
danke für das Video, liebe Grüsse aus dem Salzburger Land
I love the way he geeks out on his gear!!
Krimh, possibly one of the nicest "online" drummers and so freaking good and versatile! This HFTS is gonna be a killer album with him on drums! Are you gonna do the whole band or do a mixing video, Kristian? I love they chose you and your studio!
Thanks!
I’m also gonna mix the album.
Pretty sure we’ll have the multitracks and a detailed mix rundown inside the Kohle Audio Kult Academy.
New Harakiri for The Sky Album ❤
I feel like he was very underrated years ago. I'm glad he's in the spot light now. Tight AF.
every band i have seen him with he was flawless and, basically made the show for me. wasn't a huge fan of decapitated but when he played with them it was the bomb. saw them later with another drummer and it was kind of "meh"
saw him with septic, which i don't really like and it was a great show that i would watch again.
Hell yeah, The drums sound y’all achieved sounds so good, also the best drum pedals in the world!! Heck of a drummer his dedication to the instrument is the real deal!! Been a fan for sometime now.
When I saw on Krimh's instagram that you were working together I knew that a video like that would be made but didn't expect to have such a detailed 27 minutes video. Extremely valuable information for me and other drummers recording themselves. Thank you both so much this is perfect ❤
I didn’t expect us to do 27 minutes either 😱. Especially not during a real recording session.
But having another UA-cam pro in the house really speeds things up!😇
Hahahha I bet it does he's one of the best out there and so are you. Thanks again to both of you ❤️
May I ask what clamps you used for the audix mics on toms ? The ones I have for the audix aren't ideal I'm curious what you are using @@KohleAudioKult
Loved everything about this, thanks and good stuff!
always great to watch your videos!!!
Awesome video, guys. Glad to see that heavy 20-inch cymbal in use, it's THE signature Krimh sound 🤘
I'm usually not the biggest fan of 20" crashes but it really worked here!
Thank you for this invaluable insightful video! What a kick ass walkthrough! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Great drum sound as usual, Krimh is a beast! Thanks for the video! 🤘
Very cool kit
Insane and fantastic drumming!★
Love that he keeps the Mb8 in every setup config he does. I love my 20" heavy crash from that line and would really like to grab more when money permits.
Wow! What sounds?!?! Phenomenal job, you two! And thanks for sharing. Very inspiring…on both sides of the glass.
superb room sound sir
Definitely the sort of drummer you want in your studio! 😎🤘 May his ride cymbal live forever!
good call putting weights on the snare stand! Wobbly snare stands has been a pain in the ass for me for years! will do that immediately!
Great video! My first introduction was the song "Guiltless" with the band Lokust. Love his playing, so good!
Great video man, always good!! love that 'smash' mic technique you did with the warm audio pre!
SO helpful. I have that tempesta snare, and it was cool hearing the tunings back to back. Also nice to have a set number to aim for with the Tune Bot
WOW! None more Metal! Such a great video!
I recognize that studio from Romain Goulon when he was with Benighted. And Kevin Paradis. Very cool.
Yeah, super cool. Thanks
Ich freu mich schon aufs Endergebnis 💪💪
I prefer the byzance. Feel more thin sound that give bigger drum sound.
Y’all are the best!
I always love watching this channel and hearing German names of gear like "Beyerdynamic" pronounced correctly
Thanks! I don’t think I got “Byzance” right this time. That might have been a little too German 😇.
But I know what you mean. I really hate it when Germans say German words with an American accent. Like “Böööörlin“
I'm a fan... A phenomenal drummer, I really like his playing. Also love your approach when it comes to recording/mixing drums. In my opinion, you achieve one of the best drum sounds for extreme metal out there.
Thanks for the info! Now it's just copy/paste for my homestudio
Love that alloy crash!
awesome!
THIS... was cool ! 👍
Can't wait for Krimh and Harakiri!!!
Absolute beast of a drummer
My guy, I love you.
Cheers from Murica
Top 10 metal drummers. And the Bogren plugin is AMAZING
JT snare is a killer one. Great video man.
killer sounds, killer drummer
I just started the video but I just want to say that I'm excited to watch this !!!!
Enjoy!
Yes!!! I just got the Tempesta snare! Krimh is a beast.
Awesome snare! We recently also used it during the session with Nolly. More to come!
well DAMNIT. i knew i wanted a Tempesta snare, but now i NEED one.
Another great video Kohle! Thanks for the info and entertainment.
Of course you need one buddy!
I recently made the mistake of renting 14x8 free floating that I can't let go! Life's hard ;)
Great drum sounds and loved the run-through of the process. I am too really digging the Austrian Audio OH mics (I have the cardiod OC18 version though). I also run a ribbon room mic set in blumlein configuration, but man, I will try putting them behind some gobos. Sounds great!!
Always happy to inspire you!
The full version of the rundown and the multitracks can be found in the academy by the way.
Thank You Kristian thank You Kerim, Just wanted to ask what about preamps? which ones do You use for different microphones, do you use them to adjust the sound, create a character?
Tracking drums can be a fun and exciting pain in the ass experience.
indeed!
..."if you compare it to the..."
Meinl! Meinl Byzance! 😁✌️
Great video! 🤘
That pure allow 20 is nice and full, but the brilliant in that position wasn't bad either; that one just sounded thinner....
I'll say I like the Benante snare, because I like my snares metal, cranked, and with a little bit of that "hooo" ring 😂
Nice mic-ing and recording.
Awesome stuff Kohle - That Tama snare -- so fat. I love how you told us not to focus on his playing in the "ruff" mix -- lol -- what a beast.
Haha! It was really just random shizzle and it wasn't planned to be shown in public.
What a FUCKING beast! \m/
You should make a drum library with these sounds. This Actually sounds better than the Bogren
Yeah, the Bogren library is horrible
You could've used this session as an expansion pack for Krimh Drums 🤔
Du durftest doch schon Ken Bedene Drums aufbauen! Dachte, das war das Highlight ;)
What Promark sticks does Krimh use?
Man, that mic under the ceiling is absolutely insane. 🎉
Thanks man! 🤘 Academy members can download the multitracks by the way.
Now I'm thinking to get a thinner cymbal for that explosiveness since my left crash cymbal has a crack in it. I generally like dark cymbals, especially in recordings, because it just sounds fuller sounding like that Pure Alloy.
That Pure Alloy series was new to me. Really musical sounding!
I know im a little late butvim wondering if youve ever recorded the Gretsch USA bell brass snare....im torn between getting that or the Tempesta snare
Nope. But the Tempesta is a pretty safe bet.
Niiice room mic tips. Quick question: Could the distortion part be done in post processing, allowing for a bit of trial and error? My gut says yes, but I'm maybe two steps above a total noob.
Yes, it can be done later probably.
I just like making decisions on the fly.
Way too many decisions left during the mixing anyway
Hey Kohle ! Great Video ! Do you know what settings you guys had on the V-Kick ? Cheers from Vienna !
Yes, both settings are on „modern“
Hell yeah! Krimh! What a Powerhouse of a drummer! 💀🤘 As far as choosing between the Byzance or the Alloy cymbals, I think context is key. Which set of crash cymbals best fit the mix?
People track drums first a lot of the time, so that doesn't really work.
freat work, I hope soon more snare tune videos, or sizes snare comparative many good drumers play blastbeats whit 13x7 snare size
Noted!
I gotta say that 13“ snares never really did it for me. And I tried hard!
Czarcie Kopyto! PL 🤘
I love it. He is like a machine. Are you using Motu interfaces?
Nope. Either SSL or Audient
Very interesting video, thank you! Great snare sound - does Krimh play no rimshots at all? I couldn't see it on my phone...
He plays rimshots all the time.
He will answer that in full detail in another upcoming interview video with him. So stay tuned!
Great, thanks!
🔥
Awesome video - very helpful with setup tips! Question Kohle: i use the sE8’s for overheads/spot mics too, but found recent recordings with them a bit thin and “watery” for crash sounds. I use the high pass filter at its highest setting (160hz I believe) and am wondering if I scooping too much information out while tracking - do you use the HpF options on the sE8’s?
I also use the sE8 for quite a while now. I found cutting 160Hz a bit to much für Overheads. Especially the snare suffers to much, imo ... Next to this, you can always put a lowcut later in the DAW.
I’m not using them as overhead mics cause I prefer darker mics.
But there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them as overheads. Compared to a lot of other SDC mics they actually sound rather flat.
It always depends on the cymbals as well. The brighter the cymbals, the darker the mics.
@@franklymmAwesome, thank you for that, I need to try using the gentler settings!
@@KohleAudioKult Ok thanks that makes sense, I may need to take a look at my cymbals as well!
Woohoo, Krimh! I noticed that he kinda stopped using kick triggers a long time ago. Pure acoustic power.
Also, Kristian, you have very little hi hat in your OH mics, what's the secret?
The right position of course.
There are a bunch of things you need to get right when positioning your overhead mics. The hihat is not the main focus, but I usually try to achieve all the other more important goals while staying away from the hihat as good as possible.
We got a lot of drum recording and mixing courses inside my academy. Could be interesting for you. Like this one:
www.kohleaudiokult.com/courses/Recording-Drums-Foundations
“The material is not so complicated”
Sheesh
As a drummer, this was very interesting! 👍
Good to hear that!
Krimh is a fcking legend! 🤘
Kohle during and after all the sound checking with the snare how many drum heads did you go through?
You mean how often we switched during the session?
I hardly ever do that
I prefer the brilliant cymbals. Both sound great though
How are you dealing with phase issues when using so many overhead and room mics?
Phase is usually a low end problem. Most coal spot mics are low cut anyway and they’re not loud. So no problem!
Hey what pedal is he using? Iv seen it before but I don’t recognize the brand?
There’s a link in the video description
Finally 🤘🤘🤘
nice thnx, when will you show us your hapas pls?
Absolutely. That’s in the works.
@@KohleAudioKulthell yah!
Is krimh not with septicflesh anymore? You introduced him as if he wasnt.
please try out dpa microphones..they seem to be really good.
Yes, they are!
@@KohleAudioKult ive seen alot of videos and only read good things about them. i never have tried them. maybe in the future i will
They are more on the clean side@@DavidKrautscheid
@@KohleAudioKult yeah
pure alloys!!
When I first saw him posting clips and I noticed the room, I thought to myself "This is going to be one of the few drummers Kristian is going to not fight using an actual kick drum".
Haha! Right.
But it also depends on the music. We were not recording any crazy 300bpm shit
👍
Pure alloy for me, with Tempesta snare. I would've used different mics, but that's why he's him and I'm not. 😮But in really prejudice on SE stuff as everything I've ever done with them was crap. But hey, it is west it is. Surprised though he didn't use an akg D112 on those floor toms though.
Everyoje of us watts to see a studio diary from Harakiri. Amazon band
I’m „just“ recording the drums and mixing the album. But there might be a mixing tutorial inside my academy!
First set of cymbals 100%
Little crisper little brighter and amazing
Awesome you combined them
Alloy
What about the 414? Hyper-card?
Which one?
Hapas detected! Video when?!!
Haha! 🤩 In the works
take some samples and add to Krimh drums
You're playing a Mangini kit? 😂😂😂
team pure alloy
Eve eating apple in the corner?
cream
Breh
Yeah Byzance sound like shopping carts being thrown down stairs. Most Meinl sounds like ass to me. All my favorite drummers play Sabian.
Sound good i've got ML drums equally good
All of these plugins sound beautiful on pre-made patterns that have articulation, volume. But just add a midi track and it all sounds monotonous and not at all like on the patterns. There are still no adjustments for humanize and you have to remake each beat by hand or use Drumagog and add small irregularities. I personally didn't like the shell or the drums themselves. Dude just wants to take a bite out of the drum market.
Two Bass drums?? I remember when Buddy Rich saw that Louie Bellson had two bass drums, he said he could do with one foot what it took Louie to do with two!
KRIMH using the Same Pants since 2009 …🤮🤮🤢 What the fuck?
I like pancakes
