So informative, thank you. I've made my first hand drum last weekend, and it has been drying for four days. This helped me alot, thank you.

Good to see you again, Guillermo and to remember Dartmoor. This was very timely. A few years ago I made my drum, starting with a raw skin. Yesterday I bought some coconut oil (for cooking) so I’m ready to go. Still active ( at 86) and playing that beautiful flute I bought from you in Fort Jackson.

So happy to hear! So glad you're still enjoying your flute and so glad you're doing well 🙏

    Hi Guillermo,
Could you make a tutorial on how to do the lacing?
I'm in the process of building my own drum with regional products, and would love to recreate that lacing pattern because it looks beautiful! If you could share would be amazing!

I like your drums with beautiful paintings. Can you please introduce them? Thanks you for sharing! Really enjoyed watching your videos!

My experience of oiling both sides of the drum wasn't successful: oiling the inner side of my drum removed part of the paper-like texture which was on top of the inner part of the skin. (It is a layer of the skin itself so it seems.) Now my drum looks patchy which makes me sad.
I don't see anyone talking about not treating the inner part of the drum so I thought I'll leave this comment for others to learn from my mistake 🙏

Hi! Two questions - I'm using bear grease - some ppl recommend just using fingers to apply the oil, some like you a cloth, others a slightly damp warm cloth to help "push in" the oils - your opinion?
And if my drum is already painted (I think the person just used regular acrylic paint), should I just oil the back instead? Or what is your suggestion?

Apply coconut oil with a cloth, we are uploading our short video now on how I apply. See previous reply test a small section to be sure paint is properly sealed 🙏

Hello brother, thank you for sharing this information. I had used shea butter on my elk drum for two years. I’m curious in your opinion as if it the right thing to use on elk.

How often do you oil the drum?

Similar to our skin, after a year or two the drum hide will begin looking a bit dry 🙏

Mine is a little dusty, is there something I should clean it with first?

Guillermo -- is it still possible to paint a drum if you've already treated it? I used shea butter on mine. If so, how would I prep the surface?

Sorry too late 😞. The oil will keep the paint from adhering
