    Really great video that a was a lot of useful information. Maybe you should do a video about being a history student at UC Berkeley. I think a lot of people might find that interesting since as you mention the university have some of the best faculty all over the world

    Wow, you majored in history! I'm also a history major and transferring to CAL in the spring. Can you please do a video on your experience with the history major, like coursework., professors, and tips for history majors. I appreciate it so much as there are no videos or little information regarding the History major at CAL. It will greatly benefit other incoming history majors and me,. Anyways great video

    Hi! I’m debating whether or not to apply for UC Berkeley for Journalism, so I’m watching every single video to figure out if it’s worth it! I’m from the UK and it will be my first time in America! X

    I’ve been debating whether or not to go to Cal for the past month now :( It’s been so draining trying to figure out which school I want to go to. I was wondering how safe you felt on campus? After visiting twice, I felt super unsafe off campus. Should I strongly consider this? Also, the other school I’m debating between literally pioneered my major, cogsci. Being in L&S, did you have any cogsci friends who I might be able to talk to regarding the program at Cal? Thank you so much for your video :)))))

    • @liviifries9922
      @liviifries9922  3 роки тому +5

      Sorry you feel drained from the process, I remember feeling similarly when I was in your shoes but once I made a decision I started to get that excitement back I had when I toured schools :) On campus like on the actual campus I felt pretty safe. As a girl, I don't feel 100% safe when it's dark outside regardless of where I'm at but Berkeley has a great bus system and enough people out that it wasn't too bad when I was walking home at nighttime. In the area surrounding campus, there are places I avoided but I generally felt safe where I lived (southside near college avenue). The biggest worry I had was laptop robbery when studying - I would not let my laptop out of my hands and never sat near the door (in cafes especially).
      I wasn't cogsci but I've heard nothing but good things about it (other than one professor but I don't remember their name). If the other school you're considering is also great for cogsci it seems like your decision should be based around which campus you feel like you can best succeed at. Something else to consider is where you want to work after graduation because being in the Bay Area definitely helps Cal and Stanford grads get those coveted tech positions. I hope this was helpful! Whatever decision you make will be the right one :)

    Hey there, thanks for all the information! I was wondering if you thought if was necessary to have a car while at Cal??

    • @liviifries9922
      @liviifries9922  3 роки тому +2

      Not at all!! Parking is hard to find and often expensive. If you’re driving from your hometown though and can find a place to park it, then you will be everyone’s best friend because it’s hard to find people with cars😂 the bus system is phenomenal and we have BART which takes you around the Bay Area. I lived comfortably for 3 years without a car :) pretty much everything is walking distance near campus

    Does UC Berkeley offer full scholarships to out of state transfers?

    • @liviifries9922
      @liviifries9922  2 роки тому +1

      Hi! I don't think they do but you would need to check the website. Since it is a state school they offer good financial aid for in-state students but it is much harder to get out of state.

    My daughter can’t decide between CAL or UCSB. Any advice?

    • @liviifries9922
      @liviifries9922  Місяць тому

      Hi Rebecca, if you can afford a trip to both schools, that would be the best thing to do in order for your daughter to make the best decision. But I understand that’s expensive, IMO Berkeley is gonna be more intense / academic and UCSB is gonna be more chill/social. It all depends what your daughter is looking for! I wish her the best of luck

      You will need to go to the university department website and look at research focus areas. You can even contact the research faculty directly.

  • @xxmrrickxx
    @xxmrrickxx 2 роки тому

    The number one thing to consider is the value of the product. Because people never talk about this it allows universities to raise tuition unchecked leading to student debt shock. Look at the cost of your degree compared to the expected income you’ll receive when applying it. You should not be in debt more than the expected annual income.
    I have been hiring engineering for 10 years, and trust me, the university you get your degree from means nothing in industry.

    How are the job opportunities?

    • @liviifries9922
      @liviifries9922  3 роки тому +2

      In terms of the portability of a degree from Berkeley, I think it helps secure a job because most people know (especially in CA) that Berkeley is a rigorous and prestigious school. If you're asking about job opportunities post graduation near Berkeley, I'd say their pretty abundant since it's near SF and Oakland (and San Jose to an extent). If you're tech or CS you will have tons of opportunities super close. I got a legal internship in SF through friends from a club I was in which helped a lot to secure my full time job post grad. I hope that answers your question!

      @@liviifries9922 Can you recommend clubs at Berkeley for someone who wants to go into law?? Going to Cal as a freshman next year!!

    • @liviifries9922
      @liviifries9922  3 роки тому +1

      Lucy Mumford I was in a pre-law fraternity which I found very useful. There isn’t as many pre-law students at Cal compared to STEM so joining a club was a great way to find friends, network, learn about opportunities, and all that good stuff :) I would go to the recruitment events and join the club you like the best. There’s 3 pre-law frats, mock trial, and some identity based pre-law clubs.

      I literally had to reference my old resume to find my high school GPA - I had a 4.0 and did a bunch of clubs in HS. The main thing I did though was dance, and that's what I talked about in my admissions essays!
