When Fulham came up 2 years ago we drew against Liverpool on the first day of the season. That was probably the best morale booster possible. Hope the same for Ipswich 🤞
Yeah we (Leeds) did in 20/21 and Norwich in 19/20. Makes yer think dunnit 😮
It's not a nightmare start at all. Back in the PL, big team coming to Portman.. I say an amazing 1-1 draw and the season's off. Would it matter getting beaten 3-1 anyway? I genuinely don't think that'll happen.
Mate good luck to you and of course Ipswich shall be following them closely as a supporter in the prem love ur input weekly regards Leeds supporter from Australia looking forward to more of ur podcasts mot cause we ain’t alaw lol
Liverpool fan here, good luck Ipswich, will be a monumental opening day🤝
20 years + away from the big clubs, looking forward to it.
When we (Saints) were promoted after back to back promotions we had a similar start facing both Manchester clubs.
Winless after 4 and still managed to stay up. Have to take points off the teams around you.
Yeah, Leeds started the season well. Their first game was away at Liverpool, losing 4-3 after giving away 2 penalties. One of which saw the ball ricochet of Koch's knee onto his hand. That led to the rule being changed after the game, such that if the ball came of any other body part before hitting the arm/hand, it wouldn't be a penalty.
Leeds then beat Fulham and Sheffield Utd with convincing performances before drawing 1-1 with Man City to round out a good start to the season by the first international break.
It is a daunting start to the season, but let's savour it. Ipswich fans have waited over 20 years for this.
I'd feel a lot happier going into those first 2 fixtures knowing we had Omari Hutchinson with us!
Bring um on 😊😊
ITFC !!! you fly straight into my heart ❤
I reckon 9/ 10 points from 1st 6 games is not beyond us. I think we may surprise a few teams. If we can shore up the defence, McKennas tactical shrewdness may be the difference that allows us to upset the apple cart
That's a great draw! Best way to learn to swim is getting thrown in at the deep end!
What a surprise: Liverpool play a promoted East Anglian side in the first game. (Excluding Luton / Bedfordshire from the region.) That's three times in a row!
Do I detect a hint of cynicism in your comment?
I'd noticed that too As an Ipswich fan since 1971 great to be playing Liverpool again Hopefully this time we can put up a better display than the spineless efforts of 0 to 6 and 5 to 0!! George Burley second season had bad buys and spineless performances and the gap was a lot less then between the top flight and the second one What Keiron McKenna has already achieved with this set of players is remarkable I have always liked Liverpool for fans and club ethos Think this Ipswich set up can prosper and McKenna for me the best Town boss since the great Sir Bobby Robson
If we can aim for 8/10 wins and few draws we should survive the drop
brilliant start!!! at home, big team, awesome! have faith :)
Brighton supporter here, the gap in quality is huge from the championship. I really hope you stay and flush away a bloated premiership dinosaur back into that brutal division.
Like Spurs, they’ve been in the Premier League for three decades and never won it, they’re such a pointless team
Thanks Any club in mind? Perhaps those perennial struggles Everton?!
We wanted to be playing the big teams and that's what we've got, I'm glad we've got that start as theirs no expectations and hopefully the players should be buzzing to prove a point. Not optimistic at all but you never know
Rather have liverpool and man City first two then last two 🔵🔵⚪️⚪️🚜🚜
Burnley had that kind of start last season
Last time we (West Brom) played Liverpool on the opening day we thumped them 3-0 with Zoltan Gera & Lukaku. It's no relevance but I just wanted to throw that in. 😉
I know it's a very hard start but still amazing can't wait
You'll disagree, but I think it's okay for you to face the tough start. Pool and City will take a few games to get into their stride, and if you were facing them later on in the season when chasing points is crucial to you, it would be a difficult task if the opposition is purring by then. I reckon you'll catch a few teams out this season as you score a lot of goals. If you're attacking the ball's well away from your own goal. You'll find it much harder to score, of course. When teams attack you, it will eventually take a toll on confidence. Keeping clean sheets will be tricky. Before the fixtures came out, I felt you'd get off to a decent start, pick up some momentum, but tail off later. Whatever happens, you have to play everyone eventually.
As a Leeds fan to say I’m envious is an understatement. After being in the Premier and then dropping into the Championship the day the fixture list is released is like being slapped across the face with a big wet fish!!
Enjoy the ride guys.
Cheers I general as a Town fan living in North Yorkshire the Leeds fans have been great Your club gets a bad press at times but it is the right thing to do to dish out praise and I am happy to do so Hoped you would make it up too on 90 points Just now hope we are not keeping your seat warm for 12 months Want to see Ipswich v Leeds in the Premier and sure Don Revie and Bobby Robson up there would agree Sir Bobby openly admired Leeds when the press did not and I think that set in place a legacy of generally good vibes between the club's Best of luck to the whites next season
It what dreams are made of Ben 💙🥳
Heyup Ben, what a perfect start............4 points wouldn't be a surprise for me.
Hmmm I don't know about Liverpool. Klopp leaving is bound to have a huge impact at the club. You could get something. It's at home too. Not so sure about City but I have a feeling about Liverpool.
Mark this my friend. I have a feeling.
Both Times Norwich went up under Farke city played Liverpool 1st Game twice stinks of Premiership being Setup for the Top 6 🤔
Respectfully disagree with you on this one, Ben. I think it's a near-perfect situation. These are two of the biggest free hits Town could get, yet the players will be buzzing to get out there and have a go at these massive teams. I expect us to perform well but ultimately lose both. That said, Liverpool and Citeh could start the season a bit cold, players might be knackered from the Euros, and maybe even a little jetlagged from playing humid friendlies in the arse end of nowhere. But if we do lose to both, far better them than a Bournemouth or a Fulham. I'm expecting a baptism of fire like the one we survived at Sunderland last year, only much scarier. Can't wait!
Premier league needs to be more competitive, was a time in the 60s and 70s likes of Ipswich, Derby, Nottm. Forest won the league. Going to be boring of one team wins the Premier League season after season like Bayern did in the Bundesliga for 10 years.
Think positive One bookie had Ipswich to finish eighteenth last year First game back in the Championship was away to Sunderland in front of 40000 plus and we beat them Ipswich can and I think will stop up and surprise quite a few Premiership sides in thee process
Ipswich Town would be extremely motivated against Liverpool. Sure they got plenty of talent but Liverpool has to rebuild and Slot is a bit different from Klopp
If you get anything around 5 points from those first 6 games. It will ve a good start. Other than Southampton, they are all established, and it will take time to get used to playing at the higher level. Good luck. You'll need it😂
Forest, Fulham, Everton + 3 promoted sides with potential for Brentford and Bournemouth too but less likely, you know who the teams at the botttom will be because the premier league is predictable! If Leicester get a massive points deduction then that’s them gone, I think Forest are gonners so really you could end only needing to avoid the last spot.
I do agree that Ipswich need a good first half of the season, see you a bit like Huddersfield a few years ago, able to surprise teams the first time around but come the reverse you might get found out but hopefully then you could limp over the line.
Probably the best time to play them
Ipswich playing with the buzz of promotion
Liverpool first game with a new manager
Man City sometimes take a few games to get going
Think I would prefer to play them at the beginning then after 10 games
An extremely difficult and challenging start to the season …..certainly. A nightmare start definitely NOT ….that was a few years ago ago when we started the season away at Burton Albion!!
It's just what Ipswich need, a dose of reality. If they perform well it will give them confidence even if they lose. Just don't concede 10 goals.
Good video Ben - look what happened to Burnley last season their momentum did not help them - the gulf between the Prem and Championship is a lot bigger than when Ipswich were there last. There are no easy games in the Prem the biggest gap is the fitness level of the players and if Ipswich do not get that right then the injuries will build up and they will unfortunately slide down the table. Good luck to them of course.
Norwichs first 4 fixtures last time we were in the prem was Liverpool, Man City, Leicester (who were decent at the time) and Arsenal.. fair to say our season was over before it had even started.. confidence was completely lost after that
It will be tough for ipswich as they haven't been in the league for years so we are gonna see how they are gonna spend the money on to get a squad together I reckon kieffer moore and sarimento could sign on permanent deals but also other players coming in.
Its not so bad in my opinion. Those top teams dont hit top form until after christmas and always throw up a few defeats near the start. Especially city and liverpool. If theres a time to get any points against them its the first few games.
No Ben, it’s not a nightmare start…it’s the EPL! UTV! 🏴🇪🇸
What will be interesting will be how much money you invest into the playing squad, if you can find a bit more quality than luton did, then i reckon you will be fine with the manager you have. You have a better squad already than luton did imo when they first got promoted
Get them out of way early. No one is expecting you to do anything so lose all these games players and fans not too worried. Should have leicster rock bottom at least.
How many Ipswich players are playing in the Euros, compared to the other two you are playing, ? So whose players will be rested ?
I think it is good to have a home game first up, and Man City can be slow starters.
We will be 10th to 12th
Ben I see whete your coming from personally delighted to get. Liverpool and citu out the way early and if we have chance thecrun in given us a chance
Momentum might get a few points early. You probably won't be at your best until the end of the transfer window better to play the sides you can beat with full strength side
I wouldn’t consider it a nightmare start as we’ll have to play them twice anyways. A newly promoted team against the pool in the first game is a great start as no one knows how we’ll start.
Gonna be tough start for Ipswich but least a couple of hard games out the way, look on the bright side Ben 😂
I honestly think it’s best to come up against the top clubs in the first few games. I think you have a much better chance of getting a point or 2
Hoping Liverpool wont have gelled fully under Mr Slot until a few games later.
You’ll beat Liverpool under Arnie Slot scalextric car 😅
One more, to be fair Ben, it’s hard, but Liverpool and Man City, or as it could have been they way we were going a couple of years back, Forest green rovers and Cheltenham town? Bring it on
Liverpool and playing a newly promoted team, it's getting to the point that it's looking like it's being do intentionally.
It's an excellent start getting these tough club out of the way is a bonus! It far better then being forced to playing these club at the business end of the season and needing points to stay in the league.
Why do UA-camrs post thumbnails of themselves with their mouths open.
All the best against City and just enough good luck to lose by 1 to Liverpool
I think the strengh of the transfer window will decide whether Ipswich stay up.
Get them games out the way. Who knows what Liverpool your going to get next year
Come on Ben, if Norwich can beat Man city surely you lot can 😉
Is this karma for takin the piss out of Rooney and Plymouth😂
Never made a vid about Burnley’s insanity intro to the prem last year
Exciting times, late nights, 1 st game at 2130 here in Straya Ben , can’t wait..
You have 12:30 liverpool which is the best time to play them imo 😅
Saints look like having the kindest fixture list. I'm not too worried though, but Liverpool at home with a new manager is an exciting opportunity to catch them cold. Not feeling quite as breezy about Man City away the following week, but just got to hope that their players are still recovering from the Euros and Copa 😅
I am begging for a Fraser winner at St James Park on the opening day, would be so juicy
I can't wait, seventeenth will do me!🚜
The exact same thing happened to Norwich on both our last two prem season’s. It’s like they want to kill any momentum newly promoted clubs have early on!
I think that might be right As an Ipswich fan for over 50 years I am Not rabidly anti Norwich In fact I agree with what Mick Mills once said in an Ipswich programme back in the 1970s that it was good for East Anglia to have two clubs not one at the top table! I remember watching Norwich take on Liverpool that day and thought you did OK and also fancied the Canaries to stop up The gap gets bigger and bigger and the money (yes we will take it as you did!) is crazy Ipswich have a brilliant young manager great team spirit and terrific support given the size of the place All characteristics Norwich also had (maybe again can have now?) Need to make astute signings WITHIN the budgeting long term future planning Now on Norwich level as a top half Championship base club plus whatever That HASto be the template
Two things. 1) there are no easy games. 2) Ipswich coped with parachute teams on a budget that's only big in league one terms. They can cope with a lot more on a premier league budget surely, especially as the likes of Liverpool and Villa may underestimate them far more than Leeds and Southampton did.
Get the easy games out of the way first
Best time to play them, start of the season
Well at least it can't get any worse
playing against Liverpool with a new manager & Man City which are known for a slow start...take that for the first two seeing as they won't know Ipswich...give it a crack...
Who fancied us to get anything at home vs United 2nd game last time we came up too? The season we came 5th opened with a defeat at Spurs then a draw vs United. Not that we'll repeat that season obvs.
@@JasonCliftJones keep playing the football that has got the team back to back promotions & have faith in the manager & the lads…of course the PL is a different beast but play Towns way until they can’t…they need to be competitive or what’s the point…it’s a long season playing a low block every game
Tough start.. massive step up. Hoping for a McKenna masterclass and for Ipswich to be a surprise package like last season and finish clear of the drop zone. But fearing a long difficult season.
McKenna be up for this no worries mate
@@timothytout8339 That's my hope. I don't think he would have stayed and signed a new deal if he thought he could not deliver safety.
Just two years ago, Ipswich's first away game in L1 was Forest Green Rovers.
This coming season, we will be playing Man City away, whereas Forest Green Rovers, are now in the National League.
Nightmare start would have been Sunderland, Plymouth and Luton as it would have meant after a great season we missed out on promotion.
Happy to have Liverpool and city early in the season before they are up and kicking. Even if we lose both but put up a fight players will feel they belong.
Question - when was the last time we lost back to back league games?
I am extremely nervous about the season but if I optimistically assume we are going to surivive then that start looks great. We get two really hard games and then a run of 8 games with only Villa being the stand out up until Spurs. If we are going to stay up that could the period that makes the season with 15+ points before the November break.
My natural nervousness doesn't believe it but I'm really trying to be optimistic as that is more fun.
I actually predict you guys will actually get a shock win on the first day over Liverpool as the Ipswich crowd will obviously be buzzing and I think it will take time for Liverpool to gel under their new manager
If being Prem hadn't sunk in already, it has now 😂 Portman Road will be rocking for the Liverpool game. After those two, it's obvs gentler and the run in at the end also isn't too bad if we're having to fight to stay up, not that there's any easy games at this level.
Don't sweat it. Could surprise them if you are sharp from the start and it gets them out the way early. Be positive. Bielsa's Leeds started losing at Liverpool, but we shocked them and it was a good start.
Agree with you Ben, would rather have an easier start and build momentum. On the flip side, that May run-in looks decent and could make all the difference.
As a leeds fan Ben, best to get the big games early , before they get in a groove, knick as many points as possible , they will be periods when u think where the next point is coming from , good luck
Best of luck!
Man City away is guaranteed 0 points, better to get that one out the way early than in the final few games where you're desperate for points
It feels like there's a lot groupings of top teams at the same time which good mean a streak of losses so confidence could be low for the easier games.
That said it could mean they get a win or a point and carry that boost into easier games
Bournemouth always seem to have to wait for at least the first six weeks before they play a promoted side.
The start of the Video Ben looked like he either ate something foul or Seen a ghost 😂
Look how it turned out in 2000/01..and then in 2001/02......
Great time to play the 1st two opponents (if there is one)😊
You had to play them sometime so get them out the way early
It will be exciting when you can start buying your Ipswich players as bench fodder in fpl! I genuinely mean this.
Similar start to Burnley last season. Shame it's such a tough schedule, as difficulty-on-max will affect the team's morale. It's so hard to escape the bottom of the table once you are there. Be great to see a promoted side stay up this season.
