Did you have to modify the hangers for the hks exhaust to fit the s2? I’ve heard people say they cut the exhaust shroud because the exit pipe touches it.
If you keep your stock midpipe you wont need to change anything but if you buy an aftermarket midpipe then they have a screw in location for the O2 sensor but because there isnt a cat on the aftermarket pipe, it will throw a check engine light. Its way better for rotary engines to not have a cat so definitely delete it if your state doesnt make you have one. I have a video on rx8 midpipes so itll show you everything.
I would check it doesnt run lean sean after putting that exhaust on. I put the toyo sport manifold, decat pipe (no resonator) and back box on a series 1 and it ran lean. Needed a remap or stand alone chip maybe would have done it. Your S1 will run if its got more than 5 bar compression at whatever turn over speed you got. If you put the 2 kw 14 tooth pinion starter on plus an upreted battery e.g 680 CCA it will spin over at 350 to 400 rpm and move up the compression curve to get it started.
David rx8 Thanks for the advice! The s2 seems to run weird since the exhaust install and my gas mileage is terrible lol. The s1 has a new remanufactured engine but the starter clicks and wont turn the engine over. It tested good but i think the starter isnt getting enough power or something? I need to look into it soon. But yeah i plan on getting the s2 tuned to get rid of the cel and get the car running smooth again!
Hi sean, if you put a 200ohm resistor (which will cost next to nothing) in line to the coolant temp sensor it will fool the ecu into thinking the engine is cooler than it is and the map settings will be there fore be richer on fuel and idle speed will be about 1000 rpm. Its a cheap way to remap it. But the fan wont cut in until later so if its hot or you are in traffic watch out for this. You can overcome it by turning the a/c on which causes the fans to run or put an aftermarket fan temp kit on which consists of a temp sensor in the top hose with an adjuster unit. Without a Cobb access port its one way to change the map settings. I put the exhaust on my S1 and it lost the power it gained if that makes sense due to running lean - plugs were white. I can give you the wire colours and where to splice in if you want to try it. I am in UK and have had loads of rx8s. over here we have an s1, the s2 is not like yours it is an s1 with no plastic on the seat backs and different ecu software. I also have an R3 which looks like your s2 but with a body kit with rear spoiler, 19" wheels other mods such as extra oil injector on apex seals, recaro seats etc over here the rx8s are cheap to buy as what we call the road tax is £600 per year (maybe $750) and fuel is £1.40 per litre so they are expensive to run. But the rx7s are expensive and a silver one like yours about £10,000 minimum without the engine. @@seanhaight3939
@@seanhaight3939 forgot to say check the engine earth and clean it up on the S1. It is the main earth for the starter and located below the spark plugs just above the sump pan join. It bolts to a bracket that also unbolts from the engine so 2 connections to go bad.
David rx8 Yeah man ill try that later this week and see if it fixes the starting process on the s1. As for the s2 there is an ecu reflash that i can get for $180 that turns the fans on sooner, gets rid of the cel, raises the rpm to 950, and says itll get better mpg also. Seems like a good deal!
Yeah i put on a full hks exhaust with a cat delete and a resonator delete and it opened the car up alot. In the next video i installed a different midpipe that was catless and had a resonator. If you dont have a resonator the car is super raspy over 4k rpm. I recommend them for sure! I describe all the benefits and differences in that video. Sounds way better!
The kit is a catback and it doesnt come with a resonator. If you buy the other single exit hks exhaust for the rx8, it comes with a resonator. The tips and muffler position are different for both kits. In this video i installed a catless and resonatorless pipe but the next video i uploaded has an aftermarket catless pipe with a resonator on it. It sounds much better with a resonator lol
Ok. I was just trying to make sure before I purchase the hks hi power that it runs from the cat back. I thought it ran from the headers back deleting the cat.

Oscar Amador Yeah you have to turn the key into to the on position, without starting it, and push the gas pedal to full throttle until you hear a noise. The noise means the fuel is cutoff so it wont send anymore fuel. So with your foot on full throttle, turn the key to start the car and it will turn the engine over and it will pump out the gas from inside the engine. Do that for like 15-20 seconds and then take your foot off the gas and start the car like normal
Im not sure? Most cars in American only have an oil pressure gauge. My genesis coupe has an oil temp gauge and it's super helpful. I wish my Rx8 had one because hot oil in a rotary is bad news! 😵 Im going to look into it and see if a European Rx8 dash cluster would work on an American Rx8!
@@neoney after these 3 years i actually owned one: there's just a indicative oil temp gauge. I installed a riser between the block and the fileter, and added aftermarket oil temp and pressure gauges

Yeah its not a supercar so it takes a while to get up to speed on a 60mph road. It sounds good and is fun to drive so high hp acceleration isnt the goal for my rx8 haha

Let me know of any others that have low miles like that. Used to live in tampa, fl now I'm in los angeles, Ca. And it seems all the ones listed on autotrader and cargurus that are s2 rx8s or even s1, and they want way too much for them(the dealers and private individuals). And insurance companies won't give you what they're worth if totalled or stolen. They wanna give me Kelly Blue Book Value.

I just sold my series 1 rx8 for $1,700 because i lost interest in it and the new engine wasnt completely hooked up. The s2’s are going for 7-9k though. I found mine for a steal and went out and bought it. Ill keep my eye out for one for you!

It just needs a longer hanger. It's like 10 bucks. No need to cut into the body.

It's standard on American models as well. Most likely that's not the original gauge cluster.
