I found a brand new, unused Fujifilm camera yesterday. Came with a proprietary, 16 megabyte flash card. At full res, it can take exactly seven photos.
I also found a Fujifilm 3D camera which is significantly cooler.

When you see how little memory these used to come with (or for that matter how little could be added) it's mind-blowing how far we've come in 20 years. I mean these things came with 16 MB or 32 or 64 if you were really lucky. I remember when 1 GB became standard that was huge.

xD card? They're pretty much just a NAND chip on that flash card package and that's it (that means, no controller. The device can deal with it), just like the wide-ass but super thin SmartMedia cards he showed on the nuggets.
Easy as heck to destroy and degrade with use.

I love the novelty of the size of those memory cards, imagine having a folder full of them and they had albums on them, album art, all that, imagine if that's the path the music industry took, and you could buy music cartridges that were just solid state. Honestly would be cool to have a card that size with album art on it.

An early MP3 player with a decent sized screen that seems pretty bright or at least easily readable AND it has a mic built in! That's pretty cool actually. I'm surprised I didn't get one of these back then; I actually kind of like it.

@@DumbArse I'm going to assume it costed a pretty penny at the time, and the Ipod had just hit the scene as THE THING. Like, even if it cost less then an Ipod, most would have splurged for the name brand. And if you were budget conscious, you'd have stuck to a CD player where you have all your music anyways cause we're just leaving the 90's.
So probably a victim of timing, and despite the MTV involvement, lack of marketing.
Not to mention, the mic wasn't bad for the time it was released

I had a smaller one, about the size of a AA battery from the same time period. He's showed them on the channel before, there is hundreds of copies of them. It took a single AAA (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah) battery and mad a mic built in with SD card support and I think 64 internal.
I love how the screen is basically the same colour as the iPad case. So it looks like a little window

This doesn't seem like a bad quality product for the era it came out in. It still seems to function perfectly well and looks sturdy enough. Nothing really wrong with it at all for the time period.

Because of this channel, I went and bought a used 7th generation 160 gb ipod classic and I can’t wait to use it. I never had the classic, but my first ipod was the ipod touch 32gb version that I bought as a kid with my own allowance saved up. I got the classic because my mom used to have it and my sisters and I had to share it between us (and mom of course). Unfortunately it got stolen at a gym, but it was a damn good device. I started watching this channel for a while now and got nostalgic for it, so thanks dankpods :)

man, thats a smart media card. back in the day, over 20 years ago, i was super excited to get a cybiko. it was a strange little late 90s early 2000s teenagey pda thing. it was both cool and garbage. but it came with a deal, you clip out the upc, and print out a page and mail it off, and you get a free mp3 player attachment. it took 4 months for them to send it to me, and when i got it, i had to go to office depot and find the correct fitting memory card (out of so many types back in the day) which was one of those thin smart media cards. it worked, and i played mp3s i got off napster. and then i got an ipod and cell phone and that was the end of that.
Strangely enough, some HP laptops had smartmedia card readers all the way up to 2012. I still have an old Olympus camera hanging around that uses them.

So the MTV Evolution 64mb nugget was the player I grew up with. I lived in those garbage ear buds through many band camps and late night music-listening sessions. I remember transcoding mp3 down to lower bit rates just so I could fit more tracks on it. Lots of "American Pie" and "Alice's Restaurant" were listened to...

Oh man, I had the 32mb of this one hooked up to my tape to mp3 player in my first car. I loved that I had to curate a tracklist.

Wonder if they make sd card adapters for those larger format expansion memory cards. If love to see if these nugs could support large file format drives. 32, 64, 128, 512gb or even larger.
Considering the software wanted to format the device in FAT16, then 2GB would be the limit with a sensible cluster size.
They are Smartmedia cards and the highest capacity one was 128MB

It's really neat that it tells you what it is doing on the screen. I saw that it said "idle" and "writing" when you dragged the file into the folder. It's pretty wack that this '02 device has this, but later devices with screens just simply said "usb" or "charging" on the screen when you plugged it in.

I have an old iRiver MP3 player that needed special software to load music. Fortunately a later firmware upgrade allowed you to just drag and drop like it's a thumb drive.

My first MP3 player was a 64 MB USB thumb drive that I got in the mid-00s. The space kind of sucked, but it did the job. I didn't need any special software to use it. It also didn't have a screen, but I was fine with that.

Oh dang that's the Creative Nomad I had in 2000! My first MP3 player, it was down to either that or the original Rio and I went with the Nomad because of how sleek it was with that metal body. Loved that thing, the dock for it used a parallel port cable! I think there was a USB on it but it didn't come with a USB cable. I had to choose between keeping my ancient printer plugged in or that dock, and if I wanted to switch I had to pull the computer out of the desk and unscrew one cable and screw the other one in. Absolute idiot device, worth every penny.
I can actually picture happily living out of one of these for years. Considering I carried around a Diskman in my pant pockets for half a decade after this came out I'm sure I would've been extatic.

I guess it makes sense for a device with such a small screen. Although it is weird that it conforms to 8.3. Surely it isn't based on DOS so it would've been a deliberate choice?

Please do a WOWee speaker review, I used to see WOWee speakers advertised on MTV all the time they claimed to have some magic power to turn any surface into a speaker but they never really caught on so i doubt they were ever any good.
I’ve seen similar concepts, they work surprisingly well on certain surfaces and items.
Love how Dank apologzies for the glare problems really often but still doesn't fix it.
