Phil Gould hated playing this song. Saw him on an interview call it a "horror show" going out to play this song for the 1st song of the night. It was hilarious how he recounted this.
I often find that viewpoint interesting. People either expect the album version to sound the same live, or others want the live version to be different than the album version. None is better than the other.
Always loved this song, especially the guitar solo. RIP Boon.
I was there in the seats and it was amazing. Watching this is making my hair stand on end. Brilliant memories.
Love this band!! RIP Boon Gould:(
Phil Gould is so good. His playing in the intro before the first verse is a phenomenal supplement to the music.

One of the most underrated slap riffs in history. Love this man
This almost sounds overdubbed it's so good. Absolutely brilliant musicianship from the lot.
Phil Gould my all time most important inspiration as a drummer
I wake up to this track most mornings in my head.

Amazing!
@littlenige there is a sequenced bass line going on. Also on a few other tracks like hot water and lessons in love
@LAnonHubbard Watched it all a couple of days ago. Was great.
Boon: rest in peace!
And get SIS and the Beeb there to record it...
Level 42 night on BBC4 would be good...
tip top
Just curious - the main bass riff - is it backed up by an identical riff on a synth? Seems mighty low down and powerful to be just the bass alone...??
@chmgooner on the internet, try amazon or ebay
Accomplished bands are better live than studio LvL 42 is just that.
Great Talents BTW Who is the lovely lady?

Annie McCaig…One of the best 'backing singers' of all time…She's really so much more.
