■ Sermon Summary
Last Sunday's preacher, Michelle Luna began by saying, "I worked too hard on this sermon," and it truly reflected her commitment to the theme of finding light in darkness. If you haven't attended the service, watch the video first-this summary may spoil the heartfelt, uplifting message.
Luna's sermon highlights the power of covenant relationships, resilience in adversity, and the importance of taking the next right step. She shares the story of Art Garfunkel and his blind friend, Sandy Greenberg, showing how Garfunkel’s unwavering support helped Greenberg rebuild his life after losing his sight. Despite setbacks, Greenberg’s perseverance led to remarkable academic and professional success.
Luna emphasizes that, like Garfunkel’s friendship, God’s covenant with us is steadfast-we are never alone, even in moments of fear and doubt. The sermon encourages us to resist the paralysis of fear by taking small, courageous steps forward, focusing on faith rather than strength. Ultimately, Luna reminds us that giving and receiving support can profoundly transform lives.
■ About Today's Preacher, Michelle Luna:
I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. I consider myself a cradle Catholic who has enjoyed spending the last five years deconstructing my spiritual beliefs and I am happy to have landed at FIUCC. I attended Gonzaga University, where I took up to 500 level courses in theology and philosophy. I obtained my law degree from the University of Washington. I’ve spent my 25 year career in public service as a prosecutor, while juggling the demands of four kiddos (two girls and two boys) ages 15-22. I’m fortunate to have Chris as my partner in life, who keeps me grounded. I enjoy running, baking, calligraphy and good food!
