    Cahir is seriously such a hidden gem town. No one we talked to outside of the town had ever heard of it, apart from the people at the bus station haha. Even Irish people we met hadn't heard of Cahir! This video combined with our PART ONE shows how amazing Cahir is - it's got nature, amazing pubs, live music, the best Guinness on tap in the world, one of the BEST castles in Ireland, friendly people...it's pretty much a perfect town!

    Great vlog. I feel sorry for anyone who visits Ireland and only see's Dublin. You gotta see the countryside and rural towns, and the locals who live there

    I know nothing of Cahir until recently when I went to Ireland to attend a 2-week field school program on medieval castles and churches. Though the field school is based in Galway, it included places in County Tipperary, which included the Rock of Cashel and Cahir Castle. We spent the night in Cahir at the Cahir House Hotel. The place is quite comfy with a pub where you can get dinner and a nice bistro where breakfast is included and is within walking distance from all the main sights in town and took a nice walk in the evening passed the castle, toward the supervalue, and back to the town center for a few pints at the Galtee Inn. We went to the Castle the next morning and it was pretty neat. The history of the castle was amazing especially since it was built by members of the O'Brien Clan, who were one the earliest know families in Ireland, and the siege that took place during the late 1500s. Didn't get to see the Swiss Cottage since I tried to walk there and realized that the walk was longer than it seemed. I would definitely return to Cahir because of how cute it is and has such a friendly vibe to it and how close it is to a lot of places in that part of Ireland.

    It must feel odd returning to the USA, we are spoilt, to the point of barely noticing, by our historical buildings and cultures here in Europe.

    • @MoreTravelPlease
      @MoreTravelPlease  5 років тому +2

      This is so true. Back at home before traveling, I had felt that anything from the 1600's was ancient (How could anything last 400+ years???). Coming to Europe and seeing castles that are nearly 1000 years old, some even more, really gave me perspective on how young the US really is. -Harrison

    You don't tip bar staff in Ireland unless they have waitresses waiting tables (which is rare). Also maybe you could give some basic history of the castles. When it was built, who built it etc

    • @MoreTravelPlease
      @MoreTravelPlease  5 років тому +1

      We always tip waitstaff when we are filming, regardless of the country. We feel like it's only right since we are using the pub in our videos. At 2:08 I give a brief synopsis of the castle, but we probably could have added more info than just that.

      11,000 euro trip to Ireland?? When did we say that?? 😆 Our entire 6 month eurotrip to many countries, including our student debt, insurance and bills cost us $4,500 each.

      Still €9000 Euros for a Euro trip
      seems like day light robbery.
      I'd barely spend €900 Euro's
      Traveling from my Ireland to Russia
      including several European nations
      between here and there.
      Simply cut out any hotels hostels
      and bed and breakfast lodgings.
      Instead buy a decent 4 season tent
      A few insulated mats and sleeping bags
      You'll enjoy the nation's and counties
      You visit that way.
      Better to sleep under the stars
      Rather than going bankrupt.
      Peace be with thee and kindest of regards

      @@tobiahtoviyahgoodnessof349 How long did you travel for? It cost me $4,500 for 6 months of traveling through some of the most expensive places in the world - and keep in mind that 4,500 includes my phone bill, student debt, and insurance as well as tickets for castles, shopping, gifts, food, many planes, everything. It costs us more to live at home paying rent and spending gas money. I'd say our trip was extremely cheap! We house sat for almost the entire trip so we did not pay for any lodging besides the odd day here and there.

    We went to Cahir, on purpose. Great location to visit other towns. Cahir House is the "center" of town. Many events happen there. WH Irwin's is the highlight. The walk to the cottage would've been worth filming, especially since you were there for two weeks. There are "Faire Doors" on the walk, near the castle parking lot. I'm ready to go back.
