    the thing about this air purifier is it saves a lot on space which i think the main problem with city housings. dyson has both fan and air purifying capabilities while still maintaining aesthetics which is a lot of plusses there. But i think the main logical reason why people are buying it is because it does not take a lot of spaces while maintaining both functionality. (the hot/cold version of dyson of course add more value by being a heater as well) (formaldehyde filter is for me of course an overkill though)

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515  3 роки тому +3

      It's essentially just a fan so doesn't actually cool the air down, in that respect it feels basically the same as any other fan - you'll feel cooler due to the air moving across your skin taking some of the heat away. However, it doesn't cool the air down in any way - the room temperature will not change, you'd need an air conditioner to do that.

    The 13A fuse is supposed to go before the cable catches fire if there's a short in whatever is connected on the other end of the cable. Just like in your home fusebox you'll have 10A fuses for wires with 1.5mm^2 and 16A fuses for wires with 2.5mm^2.

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515  2 роки тому

      My point was more that a 13A fuse is excessively high for a fan that draws under 30W at maximum speed. The flex is also only 0.75mm therefore far too thin to be fused at 13A. But even irrespective of the cable size, I'd rather see an appliance fused at a level related to what it's expected to draw (i.e. a 3A fuse in the case of this fan) so that in the event of a fault the fuse will blow easier/quicker rather than purely based on the maximum current carrying capacity of the flex.

    • @camerongray1515

      It's been pretty good, there's been a couple of times when I've needed to move it a little closer to get more airflow (it's normally sitting across the room) so a bit more power wouldn't go amiss but it's still pretty good. It's still just a fan though so it doesn't necessarily cool better than a fan that costs a fraction as much. Only other thing I found was for when I'm in bed, it's better to have a desk fan high up angled down rather than this on the floor blowing across the bed but that's more of a "use the right tool for the job" type of thing rather than a problem with this particular fan.

    If you need the fan more than the air purifier, depending on the seasons, you can remove the HEPA filter and increase the flow rate by 50-100%. Be careful with Dyson Air Purifiers/Fans, since some models don't have WiFi to link with the App.

    Great review! I have one question though... and i hope you could answer it for me cause I can’t step out to the demo store due to lockdown...
    Is there any airflow coming out from the bottom curved part of the purifier fan’s “loop”?
    Cause i own the tp04 and the slots where the air comes out only starts from a little higher on the straight section of the loop, and even then, airflow from that section is pretty weak compared to the top... this is a problem for me since my bed is pretty low, when i lay down to sleep at night, there’s hardly any wind blowing at me. And weirdly dyson discontinued the desk versions in my country...
    your feedback would help in my decision! Thanks! And keep up the good work!

    I would love to hear more about combination dehumidifier/heat/fan/filter units - at the moment I have A/C, dehumidifier, and Air Purifier as separate units

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515  3 роки тому

      Combining those would be a bit tricky without introducing significant compromises. Dyson already do a combination purifier, fan and heater which is probably the most "combined" you're likely to find. Dehumidifiers and air conditioners have pretty complex hardware so trying to combine them would be hard. You could probably fit a HEPA filter to a A/C unit or dehumidifier but that's about it. Trying to say, combine A/C and a dehumidifier, you'd basically end up having two separate machines bolted together without really much reduction in size over two separate machines.

    With how big and expensive it is it is odd that it doesn't feature any sort of dehumidifier. I personally use a dessicant dehumidifier, which has also a washable air filter and ioniser for air filtration.

    • @camerongray1515

      It's large but even at that size you'd be limited to a really basic peltier dehumidifier and you'd probably need to still make it a fair bit larger to incorporate the required heatsinks and water tank. I also use a dessicant dehumidifier when drying clothes however it's not the sort of thing I'd want to run normally since it makes the air pretty dry and uncomfortable. As far as I can tell, the TP07 replaces the TP04, then the TP09 replaces the TP06. The TP06/TP09 have an additional filter to remove formaldehyde. The TP09 also has a formaldehyde sensor which I *think* is new to it over the TP06 which had a filter to remove formaldehyde, but I don't think it had a sensor to detect it. The differences I could see between the TP04 and TP07 are small but there are some. Slightly different filters, slightly tweaked design, apparently 20% quieter, regular mains plug rather than an external power adapter and apparently the whole unit is now HEPA sealed.

      This can work if you say need to cool down one room that's much hotter than others (e.g. because you've been cooking or because a particular room gets a lot of direct sunlight) as it'll pull in colder air from other rooms. However, on a hot day, sure you'll blow air from the room out, but that air still needs to be replaced from somewhere so on a hot day you'll just end up drawing in more hot outside air through the open window or other gaps in the building that let air in - you won't be able to cool a building down below the outside temperature.

    Eventhough i have the previous model the filters last about two years, it uses the same filters the new one does and with the asthma problems I have at night its basically on for just over 12 hours a day, it arrived about two years ago and has only just started demanding new filters, this if being improved should last alot longer than one year with the original filters

    Re: 18:30 - viruses. Not that I want to "well actually" you Cameron, but most viruses are far smaller than 2.5 microns. Sure there's some mega-viruses out there that are almost bacteria large but even then they're sub micron. To filter out virus particles this thing would need to be rated as BSL-2 or above, which it isn't. Sorry if this is me being picky, but some people might buy these thinking they can filter "that virus" based on your review, and at 31k subs you're probably getting attention beyond us geeks. Should I get my coat?

      And that app account thing annoys the hell out of me as well. I watched Barry Lewis demo some kitchen device to ferment cocktails or some crap and it literally won't work after they shut down their stupid internet end point. This thing was about 300 quid, no buttons, just an app you had to login to. I am left speechless sometimes. Anyway, great review, but I won't be buying one because Mr Dyson is a bit of a twat.

      Admittedly I'm not an expert on filters or standards and got a bit mixed up there between the website that states that it can filter viruses and then the display showing PM2.5 as the smallest value. Turns out that according to Dyson it can filter out PM0.1 (admittedly I don't know enough about how well it will do that) but then the actual sensor can only detect as small as PM2.5 which makes sense since I imagine sensing smaller than that would be pretty difficult. There's more information here but obviously I'm having to take it at face value since it's not really my area of expertise www.dyson.co.uk/newsroom/overview/news/april-2021/new-air-purification

      Then yeah, that is a major issue with app controlled devices like that. If I'm buying an app controlled device I'll always download the app before I buy to check if it needs a login. I was fine with this one since I don't really plan to use the app and I can do everything I need from the remote however if it was only controllable from the app then the login requirement would be a deal-breaker.

    They looks great and do work but in consumer testing they are actually less effective then a box fan with a filter taped to the front. Not worth the money that you spend on them in the end.

    Just bought 1 of these, so disappointed, makes the room hotter.

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515  3 роки тому +2

      Despite the cost and marketing it's just a fan so while it shouldn't increase the room temperature that much, the heat from the motor will technically increase the room temperature (albeit not hugely as it's only 30w). To actually cool a room you need an air conditioner or an evaporative air cooler, all a fan will do is cool you by blowing air across your skin, no fan can decrease the ambient temperature of a room.

    • @Bmxmusikian
      @Bmxmusikian 3 роки тому

      Yeah i was under the impression cool meant actual cool air lol, it raised my room from 24C to 27C. Reckon I could ask for a refund?

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515  3 роки тому +1

      It really depends on the retailer, you'd probably struggle to get a refund based on that alone, however if you're in the UK and you've bought it within the last 30 days online or possibly through click and collect, you may be able to return it under the distance selling regulations. Also, if you're thinking about returning it to buy an air conditioner, bear in mind that these will need vented to outside.
      As for the temperature increase, I doubt that would be down to the fan itself, it won't make that much of a difference. It's likely something else, even you being in the room will increase the temperature more, the human body is said to emit roughly 100W of heat. Plus other electronics in the room will also contribute to heating it up.

      Great reply's mate... Yeah i only had it running 10 mins, at that point i measured the air coming directly from the blades themselves with a digital thermometer/hydrometer i use to hatch eggs, and was deffinately a few degrees warmer. I really hope i can return it, I have absolutely no intention of using it as i allready have a fan, and especially for this price

    Omg, it needs account to store historical info about your readings. Get over it

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515  3 роки тому

      Then the account could have been optional as is the case with many other devices. It would have been nice to be able to skip setting up an account to at least use the remote control functionality and to view historical data for a reduced period of time. The app only seems to show a week's worth of historical data, I'm sure the fan could simply be built with enough memory to store this internally. My point isn't that it shouldn't have an account at all, it's more that the account should be optional to allow for long term use many years into the future.
