Thank you sir, you just saved the day. I'm a guitar player learning on a Jawharat Salmeen Oud and was desperately trying to figure out which tuning and string set to buy. Your channel is great!
Hi ,a musician told me once no good to stretch ur string i will take from their age keep tuning them until they settle down. i said i share that with u
Thanks for your comment. That works too, but I don't agree with this. Strings are meant to be stretched out. Stretching them sooner can help break them in. I have never had a problem with strings ageing.
Please Please where di you find these new strings while being in Japan. Ouds and Oud's accessories are hard to find in Asia. I live in China, I need new strings, and it's killing me that all music instruments here do not have Ouds... many thanks for your help.
@@OudforGuitarists thank you so much !!!!! also 1 last question: sometimes I receive strings written on them from 0 to 5th, sometimes from 1st to 6th, I don't know if any difference. any tips ? I use C,G,A,D,G,C
The high cc string could tune to F without much problem since they are unwound. That said you risk damage to the intrument. This is a turkish oud which I believe has a scale of 23.5. inches The unwound could go as high as an octave above middle C.
New to Oud, got Zeryab Shami 1 with 12 strings/pegs. How to convert it to Arabic 11 string? Which peg need to stay empty? And what’s the best tuning for 11 Arabic string for a bigger. Any recommendation for strings brand/gage? Thank you
I always suggest CFADgc tuning, but you need to make sure you have the right string set on there. It sounds like you have FADgcf strings on it. Just change them. Buy Daddario EJ95A
Yes, you need to tie the string to the peg a certain way. The loops must go in the direction of the peg handle. That way the tension is more likely to pull the peg in.
@@OudforGuitarists They're not like Steel strings so the tension is pretty low. Nylon strings have since replaced Gut strings as they're more resistant to the pick.
Hey, so I’m new to this i just got my Oud it’s arabic oud and I’m lost of were to began or how to learn it. I know i can get and understand information from your channel and many other but do you any advice were i should began or break down a list for me?
First learn how to tune it. I'll be doing a live next week about tuning too btw. I have a video about tuning too already. Learn how to hold it and hold the risha. Learn what the notes are called so when somebody says "C" or "do" you know what they are talking about and where it is on the oud. Once you have that, you can slowly learn how to play it. If you have extra questions or want to take some lessons email me at support@oudforguitarists.com. happy to help.
I use to love this brand of strings but they are horrible after like 1 month. I like pyramid but there’s a lot of fakes and the real ones are pricey. La bella makes nice ones but they seem to loose their brightness very quick. Anyone have a brand of strings they recommend that I can get shipped to the US?
No, not particularly. Kurschner strings are great and would be good on the yildirim oud. These were more readily available in Japan and I really like the feel of these.
@@OudforGuitarists Is it bad to install your strings on pegs in opposite of each other, so putting the 2 cc strings closer toward the instrument in opposition to each other. Like one string on the top and the other on the bottom than next to each other like you have done.
It depends on how much you play everyday and how clean your hands are, and the humidity in the air. Change every 3 to 6 months. But it might be better for your fingerboard if you change every 3 months.
This style is wrong .. You must first take of all strings (Every time) and clean the fingerboard and check every things if your strings are high or very low you can fix that ,...... then you can start to put new set... Good luck

Dear Navid. What opinion do you have about Savarez oud strings?
I haven't used them much. Only once and it was on my nylon string

Standard tuning is C,F,D,G,C,F some tune to F,A,D,G,C,F maybe not with this set. Are all the strings wound or unwound?
The bass strings are wound, but the two high courses are plain nylon.

I like your video . One question. Wich good tuning .pyramid super oud 665/.11 . Ore dadario EJ95A?
I think you can use the same tuning CFADgc or CGADgc or DGADgc with both string sets.
What’s the verdict between these EJ95A and your old EJ95 strings? Which one you like better?
Can you buy new Pegs?
Sure, but you'll have to get them properly installed.
Any experience with Turkish plectrums? I'm talking about these plastic thin white (sometimes black) ones.

They look very much like Nylon Guitar Strings so they're Nylon which is super easy on the hand.
Yes, they are nylon. Some Oud strings are also made from pvf, and Aquila has their nyglut material... All generally easy on the hand.
