Celebrating the Retirement of Dr. Andrew Fiore

Dr. Andrew Fiore, cardiothoracic surgeon, served at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital for 33 years, performing more than 4,000 heart surgeries - that's thousands of lives saved and even more touched through his exceptional care.

Dr. Fiore performed heart transplant surgery on my son, Chase Reid, in June of 2010. Words cannot express the joy he has brought my family. He always had an encouraging word for us when we needed it. He is a truly awesome surgeon, and great person! On behalf of my family, I want you to know that we love you Dr. Thank you for giving my son a new lease on life.

Dr. Fiore saved my daughter’s life. I was a nervous wreck the day of my daughter’s heart surgery. She was born at 24wks and her surgery for PDA was about a month after she was born. I looked down the hall, and I saw Dr. Fiore and his team standing in a circle with their heads bowed. It appeared to me that they were praying together, and that gave me great peace. Imagine operating on a baby that’s just over 2lbs, but because of his skill, my daughter’s lungs started improving, and she was able to come off the oscillating vent, and then the vent altogether. She went home weeks before they thought she would, and it all started with Dr. Fiore’s successful surgery. I’ll always be thankful for this talented man, his dedication to his craft, and that God put him in our path when we needed him most.

I'm truly gonna miss Dr. Fiore. He's cared for me since the day I was born. It's gonna be tough to be seeing a new surgeon with his strange sense of humor the slowly grew onto me.
