The new BOSS KATANA Gen3's enhanced Tube Logic architecture powers six amp voices-Brown, Lead, Crunch, Pushed, Clean and Acoustic, plus variations for each. There are more than 60 onboard effects (including reverb, delay, modulation, boost) and 15 effects options are selectable per channel/tone setting-five of which can be used simultaneously. There’s a USB-C jack for computer connectivity, as well as expanded editing features via the BOSS Tone Studio app. Bluetooth for iOS/Android mobile devices is available with the optional BT-DUAL adaptor. Line Out/Cabinet options include multiple mic-emulation options with controls for positioning and room ambience. Some features are offered on specific KATANA models only, such as Bloom power-amp voicing (HEAD, ARTIST, ARTIST-HEAD).
“The flexibility of the KATANA is amazing,” says Southern California blues guitarist Kirk Fletcher (Joe Bonamassa, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Charlie Musselwhite), as he demoed the as he demoed the KATANA Gen3 50-EX model. “I can play onstage, practice, or rehearse and the sound stays consistent for every setting. You can also record direct to your computer or use the BOSS Tone Studio app for KATANA Gen3 to edit settings and more. I play mostly blues and I use a pretty clean tone with reverb, so I’m gravitating to the Pushed amp setting. It sounds just like a non-master volume amplifier, and that’s where I live. I feel like those rich harmonics are really accentuated with a non-master amp. The Pushed setting lets me play with all of the harmonics, and I can add this pillow of reverb. It’s fantastic.”
The BOSS KATANA Gen3 guitar amplifier series encompasses the KATANA-50 50 watt 1x12 combo, KATANA-50 EX 50 watt 1x12 combo, KATANA-100 100 watt 1x12 and 2x12 combos, the 100 watt KATANA-HEAD (includes 1x5 onboard speaker), and the 100 watt KATANA-ARTIST 1x12 combo and KATANA-ARTIST HEAD.

We love Kirk, such an amazing human being. And he makes the Katana Gen 3 sing. 🙌
Kirk is the best! 🙌
@@guitarcenter He absolutely is. Great video, looks and sounds brilliant 🙌
@@andertons Cheers, gang! Lee, let us know next time you want to pop over for a visit to the Vintage Room at GC Hollywood! 🎸
Marshall dsl 40 vs boss katana? (Any size)
The ability of a true blues master to make a guitar sing with very little gain is just special.
Had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Kirk in London. Such a Gent and great musician 👍🏻
The amp sounds great too.
Yes! Great demo from Kirk and the team at GC.
🙌🙌
Grea to see Kirk again after his recent troubles.
Thanks for putting Kirk on this - what a sound and soul
Any opportunity to watch Kirk play is a treat! Sold!
Stellar demo. I could listen to Kirk play all day long, and talk too! Such a likeable dude. His enthusiasm for the amp is palpable. The new pushed sound is cool. All in all, Katana's are great amps that cover a lot of sonic ground and I always recommend them for people who are starting out or for people who want an easy grab-and-go amp or anyone really who just wants a decent amp for sub 500 dollars.
Kirk Fletcher is who I wanna be when I grow up ( I,’m 64 years old)I’ve told him to his face……. He told me OH, NO, NO, NO……. he is an awesome person. He once spent about 10 min with my son (about 12 at the time) lending my son one of HIS guitars. He was in Between sets. He played a lick, my son played it back. Kirk just cracked up that my son could play it back. These days I could NEVER get up on stage with Kirk, but, my son ( age 35) could get up with Kirk and play. Some of that is because he took Kirk’s advice to keep playing and practicing……… like I said Kirk is an incredible human being………… love you Kirk!
Good choice to have Kirk Fletcher demo this amp. Authentic, great vocals, easy to understand and very likable. Didn't over sell it, plus a good manicure. I watched the full 14 mins due to him and his blues playing skills. Loved the benefit of pushing the mic back for that vintage jazz sound. If it's good enough for Kirk, it's good enough for me. Ordering mine today.
Wow my favourite bluesman on a Katana, fantastic.
Great u got Kirk to demo!
Kirk is a legend. tasty playing and tones!
Shit is boring as hell, really.
@@revolutionday1 I must have missed your video?
@@sixslinger9951 Also you: "this channel doesn't have any content"
*sad horns playing*
Whoa!!! Kirk the man!!! that totally solidifies why I love my katana so much and yes I’ve toured the US Bob James Kirk Whalum
It sounds like those gnarly medium gain tones are no longer the Katana's weakness.
They've really outdone themselves with the new voicing on the clean as the compression sounds like what I want out of a clean channel and the added pushed amp. Especially now that cleans and pushed have become quite important to me and sold me on the Katana.
Just got a Gen 3 Kat 50- lovely. I did a lot of gigs with a Kat 50 Mk1 since 2017, and they just keep going and sound great, and survived a couple of falls out of the van. Don't see a need for any other amp. After years of lugging heavy tube amps around, I now don't miss 'em a bit.
it is really good to see a peaceful soul and heart on a review nice to know you Mate Best wishes from UK❤
Man, I'm digging this Amp so hard because it's showing of "tone" that is more like I like
Finally, some blues/roots tones out of a Katana! I think the Line6 Catalyst is still ahead in that department, and has XLR out. Five simultaneous stereo effects on the Gen 3 Katana is a definite plus, though. So much value at a beginner price point!
There is an XLR out on the higher end ones like the head, katana artist etc
The problem with the Catalyst is it is line 6.....I have some other Roland/boss gear. And Roland/boss really infuriates me sometimes. But they're stuff is just bulletproof.
Vibin on your playin Kirk! Nice job showing off all the pretty tones!
Katanas are popular but still underrated.
@@Amelia-UnderwoodI read a comment once saying that Jimmy Page was underrated. It still bothers me, these damn mouth breathers
Nice playing, great tones.
Cool amp.
This is the kind of demo I like to see. If you are a working musician. This is more than likely what you are going to be playing.
With these great new clean tones, now I'm interested.
Great demo, I want to check this amp out.
Yep, it really sounds good! I’ll have to play one of these and see how it feels.
Not sure which I like more, Kirk or the amp. Excellent playing and many genres covered, thanks a lot for this demo.
Man Kirk is the goat 🐐🐐🐐
My God! Kirk just has the touch 👍
For the price, you cant go wrong. Just pre-ordered at GC!!!
Honey… I have to run down to guitar center and pick up a gen 3 Katana 🎉🎉🎉😅
Best demo!!!
I have a Katana 50 and a Boss eband amp and connected the two and magic happened! Boss has got to follow up on that eband idea with a bigger screen and more drum accompaniment and whatever else they can throw in there!!😎🤘Gen 5.
Pretty great video! Glad they focused on blues and not metal like most boss products. I have the MK2 100 1x12, I gigged out with it regularly for year now and it’s better than any tube amp I’ve ever taken out. It’s got great tones at any or no volume on stage and the foot controller opens it up to being a great versatile tool. I’m not saying it’s better sounding than a tube amp being pushed, but it’s better in the fact I can dial in my tone and when asked to turn down it’s as good with low volume as it is cranked. Tube amps are not like that.
Awesome demo.
The pushed setting sounds great. Never liked the clean setting on the older models. I would love to do a side by side comparison with my Roland Blues Cube Hot.
I may have to pull the trigger on this amp.
I also have a blues cube hot and am contemplating getting this amp. But I’m hesitant because I sold my katana 100 mkii and got the Roland amp shortly after. Remembering how much better I thought the blues cube sounded over the katana makes me cautious about buying another katana amp. But they have worked on and improved the sound on gen 3 so maybe I will give it another try someday. Still don’t think it will beat what I’m getting out of my Roland amp. Won’t ever be getting rid of the Roland amplifier but still somewhat interested in the new gen 3 katana’s.
Cheers
@@brianrollins7275 , Yes the Roland Blues Cubes are fantastic amps.
I have the 100w Fender Mustang 3 Combo. I'd like to compare them.
First time hearing this man play. Forgot about the amp. Chops so tasty, they need apple sauce.
Pretty cool. I bought the Artist MKII combo last year. Ill likely stick with it for now. No complaints.
I promise the Artist Katana eats the Gen 3’s lunch!
@@arnolddealiii4259but what about the gen 3 artist? Seems worth the extra $75 compared to the gen 2 artist.
@@Amelia-Underwoodan artist Katana MKII is better than a Katana gen 3. If that doesn’t make sense then I can’t help you.
Tempted on trying these? How do these stack up against my Marshall dsl 40
Baby face Fletcher ! 👍👍
5:13 wow. so so nice.
This sounds great but I can’t help but think how good this would sound through an old fender blackface super reverb.
Such a missed opportunity. The katana Go has a small LCD screen that allows for a tuner and to see what effect is selected so you don't have to carry a crib sheet to see what effect "yellow" is. It's their own design! Why isn't it in the Katana? Such a shame.
Hi Is there a way to use a Looper with the 50 ex gen 3? thx
How do I identify I’m purchasing the gen3?
Bedroom boys with rope lighting will love this 😅
Goldtop!!!!!
The first time I saw Kirk play was at a Kid Ramos gig in Fullerton at Stubricks steakhouse. The late GREAT LYNWOOD SLIM fronted the band for the first set. Kirk was in the back corner playing rhythm for Kid. I thought, what’s all this stuff I have been hearing, Kirk Fletcher? He’s not THAT great……..The second set was fronted by the great Kim Wilson, they were about three songs in, Kid started to go into a solo, Kim gave Kid a cross throught sign and pointed to Kirk…….. I found out what kind of a MUSICIAN Kirk is,I have to ask….. Kirk, how much did the roof that you BLEW OFF cost you that night?????? Although he is too humble, he will never admit how GREAT of a blues player he is!!!!!!!
Would have been cool if the headphone jack was located on top instead of on the back.
The man
😀👍👍👍
Remember guys, everything sounds wayyyy better when it’s going through a nice ass pre amp.
This guy knows how to play and he does a much better job of selling the product than those jive turkeys 🦃 who just doodle.
This shows the problem with digital. There is always a new model with updates are the older one you got becomes obsolete.
He can make a toaster sound good.
You can't loose when you play the blues .
Nice amp. But I purchased a Catalyst in 2021 because of the tests Andertons made. Especially because of the sweet blues tones and medium gain tones. In that ball park, the Catalyst is way better than this Katana.
sounds ok, not remarkable , not terrible
I think my old boss katana 50 sounds better, the first year boss started making them. 2016 I think
This guys HIRED! 😛
Definitely made the Catalyst look wimpy - Fabulous TBirds & Joey B solid player
I've wanted one of these for awhile now, but the controls being on the top is just jackass and a deal-breaker for me.
quit being cheap and buy the Katana Artist
Fingers = Tone. That equation is the guitarists E= mc2
