In regard to Davis' and Baldwin's characters (The Maitlands), I suspect that the bureaucracy of the Underworld we previously saw has either changed or it collapsed and was replaced by another governing body, which allowed the Maitlands to pass on instead of continuing to haunt their house for 125 years.
