PAPAJI - Effort and Non Effort

  • This is one of Papaji's discourse (Om Shanti) at the beginning of Satsang on October 5th, 1992.
    Papaji speaks about two approaches to realizing one's innate freedom: the first is Ajagar Writti, or complete silence and stillness, and the other the path of Yoga (eight limbs) and intense effort.
    Papaji gives the examples of a few saints and also speaks about Buddha. He then talks about Ramana and how his silence attracted people far and wide.
    Whatever the approach Papaji reiterate that the most important factor is one's attitude and the willingness to let go of all internal garbage and dedicate this time in satsang for oneself.

    Namaste to all. ⭐️🌙Discovery of the truth within myself was the best thing to happen for the life of the person I once believed I was. I’m often overwhelmed with joy and love and I’m certain that this is the Absolute. What a joy it is to be alive and to know that we are beyond the concepts of birth and death themselves. I cannot express enough gratitude.

    How to not give rise to the thought?

    • @RaviAnnaswamy
      @RaviAnnaswamy 3 роки тому +2

      Somehow you need to recognize that “how” implies some steps you take to reach from some state of mind to another:. That is a thought. So anything you do is effort. It is giving rise to a thought. Noticing this you drop one by one all thought and intention as it arises.
      Then you just be. Holding on to I sense.
      Another way is give rise to a thought then say “I am thinking” slowly each word. Now say “i...” “am” and stop there.
      For brief moment you have gap of no thought.
      By practice extend the time you can stay in this silence where “I am” but nothing more has appeared.

    • @amazingvipul8392
      @amazingvipul8392 3 роки тому

      @@RaviAnnaswamy Thank you for the insight. The answer is clear. Effortlessness causes other thoughts to subside but 'I am' thought still remains and can we let go of this 'I am' thought also (at will) like in deep sleep? When Papaji says find where I rises from? How can we effortlessly look and immerse into where I is rising from?

    • @RaviAnnaswamy
      @RaviAnnaswamy 3 роки тому +3

      @@amazingvipul8392 Great question and you yourself have given the clue, 'can we let go of this "I am" thought like in deep sleep?' Here is some words on that hope this helps: you ask 'Can I let go of the 'I am' thought', so is there a I person who is letting go and another I that is let go?
      So here is the perspective: The 'effort' to let go I should also drop. To be precise, "I AM" is pure and silent as in deep sleep. "I AM Ravi" is the I-thought. You can never let go "I AM", since that is the source of all being. Recognizing that "I AM is now there and also continues through deep sleep. It notices nothing at that time, it notices nothing at this time." Ravi arises and does various things and go to sleep. Letting go Ravi is not actively making him disappear, but silently recognizing yourself to be the "I AM" and Ravi as a shadow that appears on it and goes to sleep later.
      If "I AM" was not here now, you need effort to get that over you. But in reality, I AM is ALWAYS THERE and the veil of identity as a body comes upon it and goes away. So without trying to remove the veil actively, we should just recognize that the I AM is the base that never changes. Papaji beautifully says, Ocean does not worry that waves arise and drop off. After all they are part of it. Likewise, enjoying the Being of I AM - EVEN WHEN I AM Ravi comes upon it, is the effortless effort. This is my understanding and 'practice'.
      Here is another way to think about this:
      Trying to imitate the process of going to deep sleep, or trying to imagine how the I AM will be in deep sleep are good attempts, but even those efforts are done by the current I -thought, so they will not be ultimately successful, like snake trying to eat its tail. That is why here Papaji says, be the most laziest, not even making an attempt to let go the I-thought! Let it be there, you just notice that it is the scene happening on you the screen.

      @@RaviAnnaswamy Very beautiful answer. So grateful 🙏 .
      I AM Vipul can clearly understand that it cannot do anything to be I AM.
      Why I AM Vipul started seeking I AM in the first place? Wouldn't leaving this desire make I AM Vipul same as the non-seeker crowd and make him forget to seek forever?

    hmmm.... unfortunately the teachings of papaji are not helpful. he says dont do anything often... but also purity is needed giving up bad habits is needed... nono these gurus after ramana dont know to teach. today the greatest baba is shree shivkrupananda swami. after doing his meditation my mind has become pure and I have a relationship to ramana like neber before. his pictures are very vibrant.. they gloom almost. i fall in meditaton very easy. i have a gain now. its not like you go zo satsang feel good but at home you lose it... why? because therr is no teaching! nothing has been given to you. why? because these gurus are NOT authorized. authorization is very important. shrer shivkrupananda swamiji IS authorized. thats why it works. I also can sit for hours without thoughts and desires like ramana now. thanks to swamiji. Control of prana is happening easy. thanks to god!!!

      Sadgurus don't teach 'methods' but address the mind spontaneously depending who sits in front of them. Ramana transmitted mostly in silence and Papaji through apparent contradictions. If you only listen to the words and not to what he is pointing (his attempt to break any concepts and ideas) then you miss the point. The authority to speak or not to speak comes directly from the Self, that's why they are true sadgurus and not simply gurus. Hari Om Tat Sat.

      @@hansanatola9811 nono believe me... I checked them all. if a guru is authorized he can really give it to you. they say they cant give and so on.. grace is alwaye here and so on. this is not true. they say so because they cant give... but a guru who can give is different. JAI BABA SWAMI
