on the cotrary, the moment he walks in and take his position (I mean, his seat), I said "This must be Chris Partlow". Hair or no hair, his face somehow registered deep in my brain probably because of his stone-cold acting throughout the episodes he was on
So many people in these comments completely missing how great this 'talk' (not interview) was. And precisely because the head of the talk (not interviewer) gave the actors a proper insightful introduction and then the complete freedom to talk about themselves, their lives growing up and their struggles in comparison to the issues in which the show brilliantly delves into. I don't care how white and middle class the woman was, or how little connection she has to the ghetto, because she's not doing the talking. She's letting the actors do that. Compare that to the interview I've just watched with Michael K. Williams where the interviewer was obsessed with talking to him for 10 minutes about him playing a gay character even though he's not gay, like a giggling teenager in a playground. Or the one I saw with Jamie Hector when two idiots interviewing him kept interrupting with their own opinions when he was trying to talk about his community projects.
Great talk. Really sad that both Michael K Williams and Donnie Andrews (and his partner Fran Boyd who I wish had been at this talk too) have all passed away now.
This whole time I was saying "Chris PALTROW" instead of PART-low and I feel stupid. Lol wow and btw Greggs was for sure toking at least 3 ounces before this! Lmao them eyes low
The host was born into the right class and has had doors opened for her most of her life. You'll never get a working class person (I mean real working class) hosting which is a great shame. I watch this but still think she's a boring privileged twat.
+farfisa no need to judge her for things she cant control. a person who is dishonorable in poverty would multiply their dishonor in wealth. a wealthy person who is dishonorable would multiply their dishonor in poverty.
I have a point of departure with the angle that our "forgotten neighbourhoods" are "dragging on our economy". When we review the facts we see that our forgotten Black communities are actually a boon for the capitalistic economy. (I am not a communist either.) First of all, trillions of dollars have been saved by the failure to return reparations to the members of these communities. Secondly, much money was saved post slavery with the low-to-no wages of the peonage era. Thirdly, the growth of the "race to the bottom" corporations benefit from the reserve work force with the unemployed and underemployed workers competing for scant positions and sparse wages. Fourthly, the little money that is made by the people in these communities is largely spent right back into the economy anyway. I hope no one is thinking that social welfare is a drag on the economy. Do you know how small social welfare is in comparison to corporate welfare. Then we pay the corporation again by spending our precious funds there. Fifthly, with the New Jim Crow feeding the Prison Industrial Complex, the economy benefits from cheap prison labour. And sixthly, there are some towns where almost the entire population is employed by these prisons. But if we're looking at a democratic, inclusive, win-win economy, I would agree that it would make more sense to give these communities what they are owed and allow them to prosper and grow. You see, I don't really think that these communities are actually forgotten. Those that dominate and count things just assess that it is more of a benefit to themselves and their interests to keep things the way they are now.

Its nice that they, as successful people, have a conscience about the need for help their communities have, however, the elephant in the room is capitalism. Plain old political economy just as David Simon puts it (but, regrettably, stops short of calling for a radical alternative and says - lets reform capitalism), the masters of capital flow had a need for a cheap workforce, brothers and sisters went on north - they had a plan for them to spend more - brothers and sisters became consumers. The master of capital no longer has a need for them as workers or spenders they go down the drain...lets fucking change the system not its cosmetics.
***** its actually this political correctness that is the problem. we have to change our way of thinking about equality - you see I "hear" a lot of fine, decent names about ethnic groups in my home region (the Balkans) but WHAT I SEE is the same oppression and colonial regime the western capitalists have always applied here. I think I was pretty clear what, not who, is the problem. And if I ever fall into racism, which I do regard as a problem, I will shoot myself for going against my beliefs.
47 million under the poverty line!!! In 2011 God what is it now in2021 gotta be higher We did nothing to help or stop endemic poverty Nothing!!! Wake up rich n safe folks We need help
I really hate that Michael had all these antidrug programs, and then he himself fell victim to drugs. Damn it Michael. I loved you, but also angry at you. RIP my guy.
He had a drug problem since his late teens/early 20’s. He stated this during the interview. He started the drug programs through his own experience. He didn’t fall into it after the fact.
Why assume we needed The Wire to show us that? Most were already aware. I don't think it's a pervasive as all that though. I think racism has become the default scapegoat for ideological differences. Not the same thing.
We know that already, read a book or a magazine; but, the show wasn't really about racism, imho. It was about the issues facing poor communities in America, (Whites, blacks, Latinos, Asians (LA & NY)). Poverty is not a black thing. Trust me, the camaraderie I shared with my friends in NYC as a kid in the late 80's was not about being Black or Hispanic or Irish or Polish, it was about our situation, eating at each others houses because our parents weren't home, my black friend eating rice & beans for days as he slept in our living room because both his parents got locked up, my Polish friend staying hidden in my room because his drunk dad wanted to beat him with a pipe, etc, etc, etc, etc. Some people fight racism sometimes. Some people fight discrimination every day. There's a bigger picture is what I'm saying.
No one should ever be concerned with the wealth “divide” in our nation. We should care about how our poor are doing and ways to increase their earnings. There is no fixed amount of money in the economy and I don’t care how much money Jeff Bezos has. Envy is the root of greed and suffering.
