I was born in 1982, so this commercial must have been aired beyond 1983, because I clearly remember seeing it well into the mid 1980s. It's always been a classic!
I don’t remember ever seeing the tv commercial. But the print ad photo… of the guy sitting there with his hair blowing back, has got to be one of the most iconic photos in advertising history.

I wouldn't say that. Maxell tapes are still some of best recordable tapes around (even new old stock ones). I recent bought a couple XLII-90s for recording mixtapes and it still sounds great.
I remember using those old vhs cleaning tapes, and this guy would be sitting there on the screen against a gradient background while ambient music played.
Cassettes always had exaggerated Ads. Sometimes i thought i bought Alien technology this peaked in the early 2000s when cassettes vanished more and more...
@bejita81100 I saw this because I have the old poster hanging in my garage. I don't know for how many years I've had it. It's all deterioated but it still looks good. Great commercial though!
You see this - this is Hi-Fi. Okay? High Fidelity. You know what that means? That means this is the highest quality fidelity. Hi-Fi. Those are two very important things to have in a stereo system.
What they don't tell you is 500 plays really isn't that many. And if you hammer that cassette for a couple of years, it's going to sound like this video looks. Still one of the best advertising campaigns ever. :)
That's classical music, "Flight of the Valkyries' by Wagner. Yeah, used in the famous beachside village attack scene so they could enjoy the surf break without having to worry about Viet Cong snipers.
I don't have a butler, but that is what I look like playing The Hellion by Judas Priest only two massive Cerwin Vegas blasting, and it ain’t no wine glass on the table.

Wasn´t there also a music video from the 80s/90s where they had the same setup with a girl instead. I`ve been searching for that video but couldn´t find it. If anyone knows what i mean I´d be glad for the help! Very cool commercial!

I love how this commercial was so iconic that Maxell still uses the image at 0:21 on their products.

Just wait till you've seen the Sega CD commercial
Peter Murphy from Bauhaus in that chair.
I miss cassettes. I also miss the simplicity of the 80’s car tape decks.
very simpl xD use it once, hit a bump & now you hav a stuck tape & a slot full of black spaggetti xD

I do this for real sometimes. People think it's a joke to play classical music loud, but for me it comes quite naturally.

Used to order boxes of tapes from hi fidelity magazine in college to copy everybody’s albums.
