I was raised in the deserts of Yucca Valley and Twenty-nine Palms, California. I went to war in Iraq from Kuwait and Afghanistan from Kyrgyzstan and retired in Tennessee. I love how I can grow a garden, but every time I watch your videos, I miss the desert. Enjoy the galaxy-filled sky and the dry air for me, sir. TJV.
Here's an idea. Brew you up a big ole pot of coffee. Unroll that Coleman sleeping mat. Pour the coffee all over it. Leave it set for a while. Rinse it off. The sleeping mat will now be stained a nice coffee color. You could even do a trial run by selecting a small spot and putting just a little coffee on it to see how it looks and if you like it.
Great gear man. I like the way you talk about and explain the gear you use. No unnecessary, overly expensive stuff. Helps me to know what I need in my one set up.
You are living the life I wish I could. I really enjoy watching people all around the world hiking and camping and just enjoying life. I am 68 years old and live at home. I have COPD and emphysema. And I struggle to breathe at times very short winded. So I watch people like you camping hiking and it makes me feel in away that I am with you having a great time. I helps me cope with my problems. So I Sub your channel and want to say Hi from Texas USA Stay Safe and take care.
Nice pack. I like how you show and explain your items. If possible, could you show if or how you altered or improvised any of your gear? Appreciate your video.
A buddy of mine had the Mk III and now owns the Mk IV with a red dot sight. Having shot both, if you can afford to get the Mk IV, I would highly recommend it. Easier to disassemble for cleaning and just as accurate and reliable when maintained properly. Enjoy Utah and be alert of any local flooding that may be going on.
👍 Nice compact kit. Thank you for sharing. Just FYI, I have been pleased with my SRO bivy during our warm Texas nights. I have an H&R .22LR revolver that belonged to my Dad in my pack as well. It is taking some getting used to but my pack is also a Hidden Woodsman A.L.I.CE. style pack that is extremely well made.
Good stuff. Why not a muted colour light dry bag to reduce the signature on the bright sleeping mat as a thought. And never hurts to have a dry bag around for other uses! Thanks for sharing.
Great Video Brothers. Hope you guys have an Awesome time in Utah. Wish I was going too. Im headed there in October when its not Hot as Hell!😉🍻 Ten Cuidado...👉
Get yourself some panasonic eneloop pro rechargable batteries, they last probably twice as long as regular batteries, and they will outlast your regular batteries for years, i also got myself a tenergy 12 bay battery charger, it can make your rechargebable batteries last longer and deliver energy more consistently as it can condition them, a little more expensive up front but they pay for themselves over time, also seems to be less susceptible to cold weather as i have used them with a flash in subzero temps with no problems. Better for the environment too since you arent going through so many batteries.
i love these mini bergan-type packs like you have......got my eye on the Snugpak Rocket pack....so close to pulling the trigger.....ive done the whole 5.11, mystery ranch, yadda, yadda thing....have a couple and there are good but there's something about the style and layout and functionality of these packs....
I like that you mostly go budget and realistic with items but know when to spring on the pricey but worth it stuff, like the pack. I'm really falling for the Hidden Woodsmen gear. Also I highly recommend getting the Pathfinder Ti mini grill for $20, it's sturdy and same size. I bought 2 I liked 'em so much. Keep it fun and functional my guy. 👍
Why not just use a camouflaged or earth tone dry bag or something of the like to cover that bright sleeping pad? Then you wouldn't have to get a new one unless you just wanted to lol, and you would have another means of waterproofing other things should the need arise or carrying water etc 🤷.
its made out of 100 percent cotton canvas though im not sure about filtering water since it has ink on it from the fox logo. i suppose in a pinch it can work, though i havent tried it.
Old cotton T-shirt will work when won't it, maybe even 2 or 3 it would work better, Thanks again FOX, keep up the good work from southwest Missouri, Stockton Lake area
I really was hoping you would have a link in the description for that pack. I love that pack it is excellent. That means I could downsize and still have enough room to carry what I wanted to. Look forward to the review on that pack make it very soon please. I was subscribed to your channel and for some reason it got bumped off but I'm going to subscribe again. Thanks. I watched this again to get the name of the company that made The pack. When I writing the comment I forgot about the Bang Bang. You think that thing's I carry the Henry AR7 survival rifle and it doesn't feel heavy when it's all put together but when it's all packed up in the butt then it feels heavy for some reason not sure why. I used to have a bang-bang like you've got and had to sell it which I would actually prefer one similar to what you have but my funds wouldn't let me buy much more than the AR7 and I'm satisfied with that it does take up more room than I wanted it to but so be it. Thanks again.
as far as your heavy pistol, i kind of had the same problem but i went and bought me a ruger lcr .38spl.+P. it only holds five shots but they do make speed strips for fast reloads. it gives you more power per shot, it only weighs 13ozs. and fits in your jeans or jacket pocket with a pocket holster. i am a ccw licence holder. i do pocket carry sometimes but belt carry most of the time with an thin button up over shirt to conceal it, and its so light in weight i actually forget im wearing it sometimes
I have to appreciate that you use your gear, have had your gear for long periods of time and stick to what works for you. It gets so frustrating when some of these UA-camrs do a gear dump and they have all brand new shiny gear for every outing they go on. (Ok, that was a bit exaggerated, but is pretty close to true). Also, I appreciate that you are not pulling out $100s of dollars worth of high end gear that is not practical or obtainable for most people. Thank you for showing that you can easily spend the night in the wild with just essentials. Knowledge trumps gear any day. Teach me your ways, I have spoken.
Question: do you have a concealed carry license and if not is carrying in your pack concealed considered conceal carry? It is hard to find info on this? As it is not on your person, but in your pack.
Carrying any weapon inside a bag that is on your person is considered concealed carry. Each state is a bit different in how they enforce something like that (permit/no permit) so always check with your local department of public safety or whichever organization in your state oversees concealed weapon permits.
What you have in your med-pack won't kill you, but not having a good, quality, tourniquet will kill you. You gotta be able to stop the blood loss fellow desert rat, consider many, good, tourniquet's on the body in the desert.

Even your middle eastern time was better than the current California situation. I'm in the same boat. Army 13P. Welcome back and thank you.
The only desert I wanna see is cheesecake or chocolate.
@@gunner4373 Right back at you friend.
@@selaxlife7621 I'm good with both, spelling be damned.
Proud of you for sharing the Ruger Luger.

wouldnt the coffee residue stain all the stuff it touches?
@@JunkyardFox that's a possibility. But I would think that would be unlikely. Another reason to just try in a small spot and see how it works out.

Informative and beneficial video!
Great video, as always! Looking forward to Utah adventure.
Thanks, you could put your bright green Coleman mat in a canvas, camouflage bag, or a shemagh so its not so bright on your pack
I love HiddenWoodsmen products, enjoy the video, looking forward to the next one.
Very nice my friend! Hope you gentlemen have a grand adventure on your Utah trip 🤠
Another great one! We’ve been wanting to see inside that bag for a long time!
Great video, James.

You can rap the top handle with paracord for comfort and cordage in a pinch.
great idea!
Sweet Rucksack man it sure can hold a lot of gear . I don't have one of these ones but i do have the Big DeepWoods Rucksacks

For the algorithm!
You know you can get some cloth spray paint for your sleeping mat.
wouldnt that stick to your skin?
