Hello Mehdi! You are right. That was my mistake. In that case, we have to do what we would do if they played Ne2. We continue with c5 to break their center. I am pinning this comment to appear at the top for people to know. Thanks a lot for bringing it up 💪
@@NMRobertRamirez ah ok heheh :D thank you very much that's what i thought. break the center with c5 and after that we can also put even more pressure on the pin with Bg4 etc etc hehehe thank you very much for being there. :) I keep learning its variations now hehe and it's super cool!
thaannkk you master !!! after having seen and reviewed all the lessons of pirc. I tried it in games. unfortunately my opponents opt for classic variation hehe. I won I think 19/20 games. i made a blunder in a game heheh. but what I wanted to tell you that if we understand the variants very well by playing them. we will have a lot of strategic and tactical ideas later with a very good position. I also started to read a book called (pirk alert a complet deffence agaist e4) and it is great. I've been reading it for a week with the review of your lessons and my tactics training etc. but really a big thank you !!! you are a really generous man. thank you for the section on your website and all the humble efforts you make. thank you very much master. I think if you haven't shown or taught me anything. sure I will learn things but not at this speed not of this quality. hehe congrats on that, Mehdi! 19/20 is really good. I don't think I have such a good score with the Pirc hehe And yes, these lines should be reviewed until you understand and memorize them. Nice tip perhaps: watch Seirawan's lecture on the st Louis Chess Club channel named "opening ideas : Pirc Defense". There he covers the Austrian attack and how Seirawan played against it.
Hi @NMRobertRamirez i want to thank you for your videos which are very instructive and precise and we all can agree on the fact that with this kind of content you're probably the best chess channel on youtube 😉 btw just a thing, because at 8:25 after Be2 you can't take the pawn on g2 with the queen or else after Bf3 the queen is trapped
Thanks, im 1550 and only now considered more mainline moves in the austrian attack. Never thought about playing c5 so early before even castling. Thank you so much for the video!
Definitely the best lessons for pirc. I am playing pirc as main thanks to you. I have a few confusions throughout. Could you do a lesson on when is the right timing to play e5 break? Sometimes my opponent plays e5 before and miss the timing which gives me a hard time.
Someone actually played this against me after watching your video #69 on the pirc. He beat me but I played with 71% accuracy and he played with 91% in blitz. Which is weird cuz he was only rated 800 lol.
Note that making these probably helps learn it but for the lazy: lichess.org/study/sB2IVGYW listudy.org/en/studies/j2f972-pirc-austrian Hopefully I didn't make any mistakes, I included the change from the pinned comment. I included a chapter which has all of Mr NM Robert Ramirez's recommended moves so that in the listudy you can select that chapter to test all the moves since I don't think there is a way to study multiple chapters at the same time in listudy.
@2:28 c5 , not as shown Bc5+ yields Advantage for white. @4:35 c5 can be met by Bb5+ his follow up to move 8.white needs not play certain things on move 8 the differentiations I will reply to this post in the future yet these parts are most crucial to know how white garners advantage to know these deep will profit white's advantage the more
Hello Joseph! I would be happy to clarify some things. I just do not understand what you mean exactly. I think you might have put the wrong time stamps. Let me know 👍
Robert Thank you for a wonderful video. I have one question in move of c5 (White) if black instead dxc5 will play d5 what is best move. Thank you for your answer.
My brother and I love your chess lessons. But can you do some more presentations on the Pirc? It would be great if you could present the latter half of your video in more detail - especially more lines dealing with Bishop B5, Knight E6 and pawn E5 advances from the white pieces. Thanks!
Hello! Of course! When it comes to openings, I have a couple lessons on the King's Indian Defense and then next time we talk about openings, it will be to complete our Pirc preparation 👍
@@NMRobertRamirez That is great news! My brother and I are completely into the Czech Pirc at the moment and only play that system on Chess.com with great results. At some point, we want to move on to the Pirc but we both still feel a bit unsure of it when dealing with the Austrian attack. The two lessons you did covering the Classical Variation and 150 Attack are excellent though and we admire your fluid style. We very much appreciate your lessons and look forward to more Pirc soon!
@@teacherlee3527 the best thing is that when you guys decide to adopt the regular Pirc, it will be fairly easy since you have experience with the Czech variation. Regarding the Austrian, do not even worry about it. Take a look at the lesson we had on it (# 73) if you haven't and with that information, you will know more about those positions than anyone who would play it vs you as white.
Hey! Robert, Recently discovered your channel and I am loving your videos on pirc(czech).Lost 5 out of 5 playing pirc main line. But this Czech is really good. Just wanted to ask if you can make a video on when to fianchetto bishop on g7 and when to go for b5, Qa5, Be7 Thank you
Hello Neil! Thanks a lot for your feedback. I truly appreciated! The important thing to remember is that the Czech Pirc (lesson # 51, 53) does not include g6. This one is more about trying to do e5 quickly and deploying our bishop to e7. The regular Pirc (lesson # 69, 70, 71, 74) is more about g6 and Bg7 and eventually we prepare the e5 push. The best way to get the hang of them is to watch the lessons where I am playing games with them (# 53 for the Czech Pirc and # 71 for the regular Pirc). That way you can see the plans and ideas of the opening and middlegame. Please, let me know if this makes sense 👍
@@NMRobertRamirez Yeah I know that g6 followed by Bg7 is pirc main line and different than Czech. I wanted to know if Czech Pirc is good for Austrian attack or Harmonic variation(e4, f4) or not
@@aniket_9998 yes, it is. Actually, the white pieces can choose to play f4 vs the Czech Pirc and we have to know how to play against it since it could be tricky. In lesson # 57 I went over it. Sorry that I keep referring you to other lessons, but just in case you would like to learn more about it.
@@NMRobertRamirez Since links are not allowed: Search for "Seirawan Pirc". Very strange - you'll find two videos from 2013. One lasts 58:12 (this one!) and the second one 58:13. I understand that he even claims he discovered 9. ...Qb4. Enjoy 🙃
23:55 I would capture with the other Knight to develop him as well. If I capture with the left Knight I undevelop that Knight. So, is there a way to win the Austrian attack with the Pirc Defense?
I did not do it, but another subscriber of the channel did. Here is the link. I think he actually included other variations, so make sure you click on the chapter you need 👍 lichess.org/study/AczKyouZ
hehe welcome to the club, Winston! At the beginning, I also learned these variations as I came across them. Only after I lost several games playing against it, I actually put the time to learn it well.
i watched all 3 pirc videos to get an answer for "white plays bishop d3 and attacks later over the f4 pawn our g6 pawn. Thats the move im concerned about because it happens to me very often but i did not get an answer
First Robert, these videos are tremendous - you are talented teacher! Second, I've been playing the Pirc and I've been facing 2. f4 quite a bit. Should we just play our normal Pirc setup against that, assuming the Austrian Attack is probably coming, or do you have another recommendation? I found a LiChess study where Black played 2. ... d5, but that seems odd moving that d pawn a second time so early.
Thank you, Erix! The more you learn about Chess in general the better, but don't feel like you have to. The Dragon is a monster on its own, but if you have the time, by all means 💪😎
Hi Coach, would you still recommend 5. ... c5 if the opponent plays 5. Bd3 instead of Nf3? 1.e4, d6 2.d4, Nf6 3.Nc3, g6 4.f4, Bg7 5.Bd3, c5?! Thing is, if 6. dxc5 6. ... Qa5 doesn't seem to not make sense.
Excellent question, Mario! You are right about that. The main question to ask ourselves is what changes when they do not develop their knight to f3? They do not have so much control over d4 and e5. So, what if we try to take advantage of it? It is recommended to play 5..., Nc6 hitting the d4-pawn and if Nf3, then Bg4. I personally like to take advantage of their lack of control over e5. So, I do 5..., e5 right away. If they do fxe5, then dxe5 and if dxe5 then, Ng4 getting the e5-pawn back and they have an isolated e4-pawn. Hope this makes sense 👍
Coach I have a question in 3:07 that when we play Qa5 what if our opponent takes the pawn on d6 because if we take it with e pawn it becomes an isolated pawn.
But what if after Nxe4 dxe7 now we can't take with king otherwise we can't castle and that pawn also stop our king to castle. And also he can try to attack our queen and after our queen moves he can checkmate our king by playing Qd7.
@@vidyangwagh1303 remember we have Nxc3 and if bxc3, we take again with our queen (check on their king) and then Nc6 cover the mate on d8 and gets ready to take on e7.
@@vidyangwagh1303 I would also like to see more videos on the Colle, classical Colle, ect and when to play the Colle or when to go to the London system and how to tell the difference, a PDF file would help a lot.
Hey, I’ve been recently getting back into chess and I was wondering how you’d counter 7.h3? The set up is exactly like on 24:07 except there was no Bb5 so I never needed to do Bd7. White moved their pawn to e5 so I moved my knight to g4 where it got attacked by h3.
Could you list all the lessons that the Pirc is featured in? I am very interested in the Pirc. Also i am looking for the PDF file you mentioned, can't seem to find it. Do you have a PDF file for all the Pirc lessons?

Sorry for the dumb question but what stops white playing 7. Bd2? This would unpin the knight so Nxe4 is no longer possible. No one ever covers this so I guess it must be something obvious but I have not seen it yet. Help me catch up?
Yes exactly that sequence. Do we simply play Qxc5? Could try something more aggressive like Qb4 but this can lead to some dubious positions with responses like e5 or cxd6?
@@sussexstreet5471 I think Qc5 is the way to continue and we basically get into the same main line. They will need to do Bd3-Qe2 in order to play Be3 and be able to kick our queen out to castle 👍

on minute 22:14 after Bd7 . if he play e5 i calculate lot of variant that openent can make with different order to captures or moves its realy cool hope that i play this position agaist someone on classical games heheh but i realy like one of those possibilities . 1- BXb5 . if exf6 / 2- Bxf6 . Nxb5 / 3- Qa5+ . king move or Bd2 etc . and capture knight we win a pawn. their is i this four other possibilities if openent capture with other order and we win a pawn . 2 possibitities of other variations of 4 or 5 moves that is equal . and others that its blundering peace hehehe . thats why i like it so much when the games are at the beginning with lots of variations and different results if we make the wrong order of capture etc etc. i love it and i am not bored heheh thats why i like so much this opening. with classical variation. agaist 150 attack or against the austrian attack. @@1968laugro yes, that repetition certainly helps us memorize the lines. I think that in order to share it, you have to click on "add members" and put their Lichess username. However, although I know you might not mind it, I think you should not make it public since you will be adding the specific lines you like and will play in tournaments. Again, maybe this is not a big deal to you, but keep it in mind just in case you end up showing everyone what your preparation is 😎
really appreciate the contentent.......would be more than interested if this turned into a whole series of all the pirc variations and line
Thanks a lot for your feedback! I created a playlist in my channel where I plan to continue to add more lessons about the Pirc defense. I want to provide you guys with everything you need to make it to master level and this is certainly a part of it. Now, we are going to take a break from openings and work on middle and endgames, but we will talk about Pirc again soon 👍

Hello Mehdi! You are right. That was my mistake. In that case, we have to do what we would do if they played Ne2. We continue with c5 to break their center. I am pinning this comment to appear at the top for people to know. Thanks a lot for bringing it up 💪

after having seen and reviewed all the lessons of pirc. I will never forget it.
ps: this poor lesson will now be seen and reviewed and reviewed and reviewed ... each position will be reproduced on the chessboard. with the cylicone board which is tortured xD and my notebook which asks me to stop because I also torture it :(
hehe congrats on that, Mehdi! 19/20 is really good. I don't think I have such a good score with the Pirc hehe And yes, these lines should be reviewed until you understand and memorize them. Although, you should take it easy and also work on the other areas of the game, but I know you are also doing that 👍 I will take a look at that book. It sounds interesting!

I review my strategy studies. with hours of puzzles and tactics. my 15 hours of chess a day I try to organize my time so that my brain stays awake in terms of tactics etc. because the opening alone. only helps you to have a good position you have to be strong on the middle game and end game. find strategies. bring the opponent be in a positional and strategic game or be an open game and tactics etc. everything is important. that's why I'm reviewing my lessons. even beginner lessons. I notice that I forgot things. thank you very much for all you do for me. really you help me a lot

Definitely the best lessons for pirc. I am playing pirc as main thanks to you. I have a few confusions throughout. Could you do a lesson on when is the right timing to play e5 break? Sometimes my opponent plays e5 before and miss the timing which gives me a hard time.

So helpful Ram Rob, thank you!
Someone actually played this against me after watching your video #69 on the pirc. He beat me but I played with 71% accuracy and he played with 91% in blitz. Which is weird cuz he was only rated 800 lol.
Congrats on 20 k subs!!Didn't make notes earlier doing that now... Takes a lot of time but it's worth it

Dear Robert
I am a subscriber and enjoy your videos. On the 8:27, when you suggest, if Be2, to pick up the pawn on g2, then Bf3 traps the queen.
Hello! Yes, that was my mistake 😬 In that case, we should do c5 instead 👍
Thanks again. I really like this Pirc opening
You are welcome, Timothy! Glad to see you going over the lessons. Keep it up 💪
@nmramirez can you show the variation if they do not push both E4 and D4 at the beginning?
Many 1500 players won't push both..
Note that making these probably helps learn it but for the lazy:

Hopefully I didn't make any mistakes, I included the change from the pinned comment. I included a chapter which has all of Mr NM Robert Ramirez's recommended moves so that in the listudy you can select that chapter to test all the moves since I don't think there is a way to study multiple chapters at the same time in listudy.
Thanks a lot, Matthew! 🙌👍
I think Qxg2 is a big mistake as Bf3, and the queen is in troube @8:22
Great but complicated lesson. I am very close to taking up the Pirc. Thanks!
You are absolutely right. Just think how it would be for White since they do not get this often 🤓
Thank you for this. Your thoughts on 5. ... Na6 before pushing C5?
Thank you for this. Austrian attack caught me off guard since I’m used to defending against the samish.
You are welcome, Danny! We have all been there. Let me know how it goes next time you face the Austrian 👍
Let me know 👍
Thank u so much sir..... Now I've learnt how to play against this Austrian attack
I was a big fan of italia game, until I found out this opening, Its gave me better game with black. Thank you very much for introducing
Robert Thank you for a wonderful video. I have one question in move of c5 (White) if black instead dxc5 will play d5 what is best move. Thank you for your answer.
I have a question: My opponent went e4 f4 and didn’t play d4. Do I proceed with similar plans?
8:25 “If they do something like 9.Be2 then we do 9…Qxg2” looses the Queen to 10.Bf3
Oh, and my brother just asked me if you can do a special lesson on The Czech Pirc vs the King's Indian as well - that would be a fantastic class!
@@teacherlee3527 does your brother mean the Czech Pirc playing vs King's Indian Attack or comparing it to the King's Indian Defense?
Hey! Robert, Recently discovered your channel and I am loving your videos on pirc(czech).Lost 5 out of 5 playing pirc main line. But this Czech is really good.
Just wanted to ask if you can make a video on when to fianchetto bishop on g7 and when to go for b5, Qa5, Be7
Thank you
Sorry that I keep referring you to other lessons, but just in case you would like to learn more about it.

um I'm sorry did you just say ( 8:26 ) 9. Be2 Qxg2?? Isn't queen trapped after Bf3??
Hi Coach, would you still recommend 5. ... c5 if the opponent plays 5. Bd3 instead of Nf3?
1.e4, d6 2.d4, Nf6 3.Nc3, g6 4.f4, Bg7 5.Bd3, c5?!
Thing is, if 6. dxc5
@@NMRobertRamirez Makes a lot of sense. Thank you so much coach!
24:50 if he does h3? What should I do? According to you
After 6...c5 the position reminds me of the Sicilian Dragon where White has played f4, but the structure is quite similar.
Exactly! 👍
Coach I have a question in 3:07 that when we play Qa5 what if our opponent takes the pawn on d6 because if we take it with e pawn it becomes an isolated pawn.
Hello Vidyang! The trick is that if they do cxd6, we have Nxe4 and now their pinned knight form c3 is attacked by our queen, knight and bishop 👍

Hey, I’ve been recently getting back into chess and I was wondering how you’d counter 7.h3? The set up is exactly like on 24:07 except there was no Bb5 so I never needed to do Bd7. White moved their pawn to e5 so I moved my knight to g4 where it got attacked by h3.
h3 may force some exchanges but ultimately Nh6 then head to Nf5.
1 knight out: 5:58
2 knights out: 2:07
c5 decline: 22:10

Hello! No problem at all. Feel free to ask as many questions as you need to understand these lessons. Do you mean 7.Bd2 after 5...,c5 6.dxc5, Qa5?
Yes exactly that sequence. Do we simply play Qxc5? Could try something more aggressive like Qb4 but this can lead to some dubious positions with responses like e5 or cxd6?
@@sussexstreet5471 I think Qc5 is the way to continue and we basically get into the same main line. They will need to do Bd3-Qe2 in order to play Be3 and be able to kick our queen out to castle 👍

Hello! In that case, their f1-bishop would take our knight 👍
Why did you choose the Austrian attack, 150 attack and London system to play against and not other openings??
Hello Mohammed! These are the different set-ups white can use against the Pirc and King's Indian Defense. Notice that I also went over the classical set-ups and others 👍
on minute 22:14 after Bd7 . if he play e5 i calculate lot of variant that openent can make with different order to captures or moves its realy cool hope that i play this position agaist someone on classical games heheh but i realy like one of those possibilities . 1- BXb5 . if exf6 / 2- Bxf6 .
