Happo giri is based off eiji-happo or the eight brush strokes of Chinese and Japanese Calligraphy. There are usually two methods of Happo Giri one is 8 cuts(1 thrust, 1 vertical ,2 horizontal and 4 diagonal) or a variation of . The second is like shown, usually one cut in 8 compass directions but you can always add more types of cuts or all of them. (The 8 types of cuts in the 8 compass direction is a fun one. 1 cut for each direction. Wanna drill the footwork that is a good one to get confused fast ). The character that is used to teach the Concept of Eiji-Happo is the Kanji for "Eternal". Which is why you must practice Happo Giri in every variation FOREVER. (or so my Sensei would always tell us) Your free and non(kata) method is how we were taught too. These are the 8 cut or 8 direction just go and make sure you get them all in any order you choose to warm up and let got of everything from the day.........and then we will make it harder. LOL

Would you be able to point me to a video that specifically addresses each of the Kamae and their names? Saigon no kamie, Jodan no kamae, etc..etc..

When I take online classes, can I get the uniform with the patch? What belt do I use as a beginner? I’m left handed, can I learn this martial art from a left handed position? Although I’m left handed, I play guitar as a right handed person, but I would like to learn this martial art as a lefty.

In happo giri , It doesn't matter. It's a warm up so there are no mistakes

@@TheBudoAcademy thank you 😊 So I learn I can use additional steps. The way to make a 180° turn depends on my front foot.
My back foot initiates the turn.
Happo giri is fun, feels very good

How to use Your Boken like a real weapon. You cannot holde a Boken around the blade, it is a bad habit, because suddenly it is a sharp Katana You have in your hand. In ny Dojo it is something we teach everyon.
