Actually, the Commentators, and Dabuz, were wrong at 18:04 as far as Dabuz trying to dodge Ike's Nuturel B on a high recovery. Although Dabuz went high to try and dodge Ike's Nuturel B, the Hit Box hits up top as well..so Dabuz just got fortunate because either way, recovering high, or at the edge, that Pillar can still hit U.
Nick-o HV Counter’s kinda high risk for low reward. If you fail, you’re absolutely guaranteed to eat a painful combo. If you succeed, you’ll probably do less damage than if you used a combo starter to punish their whiff. If you’re confident enough in your read that you’re willing to take the gamble on a counter, you might as well just go for a normal punish.

Counters are a bad option, and have never been good in neutral (or even as a read) in any Smash game. Other than Bayo's Witch Time, I wouldn't advise you to use counters for anything but edgeguarding.
I love countering. It lets my opponent know that you can’t just charge f-smash anytime and force me to move. Take Ike vs little Mac: Mac is super fast and can’t get a lot out of grabs. He’ll opt for tilts, jabs and smashes. As Ike, I don’t wanna dodge and eat that all the time...so I down b

It boils down to risk vs reward. Hitting counter doesn't net you a huge benefit but the move is usually hard punished on whiff so going for the hard read that counter is is almost never worth it

He also may space it so that it catches you only if you move towards him. Against all those options, counter loses and you eat an aerial at least, or death if you are in nair -> upair kill range. What reward do you get from getting it right? Like 10 damage and reset to neutral.

I have to disagree here, the part that makes this interesting is the skill of the reads and the fundamentals. Unskilled players might use a larger variety of moves, but watching them rotate through all their b moves and try to fsmash each other in neutral wouldn't be at all exciting. The reality is that some moves are simply better than others and these guys are here for prestige and money. They're here to win.
Yeah, I would much rather watch them hold towards each other at all times and press a or b whenever they get close like pools matches.. Throwing out quick attacks and playing footsies is part of neutral you dopes
