- Saint Stepanos Monastery (in Armenian, Сурб Степанос Ванк - in English, Saint Stepanos Monastery) is the second most important church of Armenians in Iran, after Qarakilasa. This building is located in East Azarbaijan province, 17 kilometers west of Jolfa city and It is located 3 kilometers from the south bank of Aras River in a place called "Qezel Vank" (Red Monastery). This church was built in the 9th century AD, but it was seriously damaged due to an earthquake and was restored during the Safavid era. This work was registered as one of Iran's national works on March 15, 1341 with registration number 429.

Yes, so called European turkey and specially azerbaijan , have destroyed ancient Armenian churches and monument to deny Armenian history, in Nakhchavan everything , thousands, completely destroyed, but thank God highly civilized an cultured Iran is preserving repairing Ancient Armenian churches, thanks to Iran, God bless great Iran.

These region, where St Toddeh and St Stephan were built, use to be in historic Armenia. Thousands of Armenian churches & monasteries were destroyed by the Mongol Turks and Azeris. If we lost our historic lands to anyone, at least thank the Lord, these churches fell into Iranian territory. Otherwise, they would have been destroyed as well. I was born in this area and our families would go on Christian pilgrimages to honor our religion and all those innocent Armenians who were massacred by Turks. As a result of the massacres, many left the area out of fear of Turks and Kurds. There were many many horror stories from the past. God Bless Iran for preserving and respecting our historic Christian monasteries. They are truly magnificent work of art. I just wish some of the artifacts would be returned to Armenia. 🇦🇲❤️☦️🙏

Yes it is very anciant and it has been empty because of ottoman turkish masacers in their attacks to our beloved Iran's border, this cathedral is very close to turky and nakhchavan, thank to highly civilized and cultured Iran , it is protected and repaired,
This church and many in this region, were once in historic Armenia. Sadly, the Turks have destroyed so many of them. Luckily, this part of Armenia fell into Persian territory. Persians have more humanity in one pinkie finger than millions of Mongol Turks put together. God Bless Iran and it's people! After all, we all pray to the same God ✝️🙏❤️🇦🇲
