Known for its plethora of ancient ruins, whitewashed villages, sunny beaches, tasty cuisine and friendly atmosphere, it is no wonder that Greece ranks among Europe’s top travel destinations........thanks for sharing Ryan!!!
But then also many many other things that you are not aware of in Greece. How about 80% of snow capped mountains offering breathtaking views everywhere in Greece. 400 wetlands and marshlands making it a birding paradise also and with many special ecosystems. 32% of forests with the highest biodiversity in Europe and highest amount of Endemic species that cannot be found anywhere else. Spectacular nature, geological paradises, volcano's, 800 natural hotsprings making it one of the worlds richest hotspring countries in the world and so much more. What you write is what Greece is known for. But Greece is so so much more than what you write. If the world truly would know the real Greece, it would rank even higher than it already does. It's always ranked in the worlds most beautiful countries, and yet I say, only 2% of Greece is advertises what you write and what people know.
@@alfsen_3426 this is true, as a Greek I can verify that, at the same time tourists will know only the 2-5% of what Greece is and has to offer because they don't have so much time to spend there probably, and to explore further. I think the video is still very good, he didn't focus on the typical places, mykonos, Santorini, creta etc he presented way more and with beautiful photos etc.
@@antenaboume Just get out your city. The fact some of us can't afford to go out there on a spending spree, doesn't mean our country isn't 'unreal'. We are the Caribbean of Europe but with European infrastructure/safety standards. No matter where you live, a magical place is always nearby, anyway.
1:46 highly recommended Milos! Not only are the beaches beautiful, but the little towns are too. It was so fun to just walk through the streets and stop in the small shops.

Even more to see, beautiful rivers you can swim too if you are brave enough or to do rafting such as Aliakmonas or Acheron (my favorite). Ikaria is another island very unique, is small, mainly old people live there but with the highest life expectancy of all the country!

I went to Greece a couple years ago and loved it. Never visited the mainland but the cyclades alone were phenomenal. Highly recommend visiting Mykonos and Santorini as well as the island of Naxos to hike Mount Zeus. Visiting Greece again this weekend and I’m super pumped, looking forward to going to Athens for the first time and reuniting with the cyclades once again.
Very thorough tour! I'm glad you included Western Greece - Epirus and the Ionian Islands - so different and green compared to the Aegean islands, and not many tourists go there. On the opposite end, Santorini is so spectacular, especially the views from Oia, but it's gotten so built up and usually so many people in the summer. Still , a great place.
@@RyanShirley Santorini is still my favorite because of the incredible views, the towns, etc. it's way over-touristed in the summer now and if I go back it would be in May, when things are all open but the crowds haven't arrived. Crete is a good #2 and is so much larger. But really, it's like your video-all the areas have something to offer.

If I could recommend a holiday destination in Greece it would definitely be the island of Kefalonia. As a Greek person I'm glad you presented my country in that way, I think is more beautiful than what people think it is (ofc way more to see and know about it than what is in this video), but I appreciate the time and effort you put on that! You kind of got me tears in my eyes because although I'm from Greece (Thessaloniki specifically) I live abroad, and didn't visit Greece the last 2-3 years, so my heart melted 💔 I'm in love with parga, for many reasons this place is one of the top in my list, Rhodes is very beautiful too, actually everything! @@RyanShirley happy to read that! 🙃 I definitely recommend Skopelos, Lesvos, Chios, and Samothraki from islands. I studied in Lesvos, and one unique thing to see is the petrified forest but very beautiful are the agios ermogenis and agios isidoros beaches too. The island is overall known for pilgrimage, and has a lot of churches and monasteries and of course for its ouzo so don't forget to try it 😉, and eat sardines and zucchini flowers (you can ask it as kolokithoanthus, I guess too difficult but yeah 😅). Skopelos is small but for me one of the most beautiful islands I have been, worthing to visit milia, mamma Mia, kastani, and Hovolo beaches (there are more but with those I fell in love). Samothraki you should visit the bathres and the fonias waterfall/lake/river, you can walk next to the river, swim in the lake, and climb up/walk (I was very young when I went, I remember that was challenging to go up) next to the waterfall. In Chios you have to see the windmills close to the vrontados village, and visit small islands nearby such as oinousses or psara. From lakes I cannot recommend enough Acheron, cold water (I like to swim in rivers with around 10-15 degrees water temperature), you can do rafting there and some other activities! The Karonos waterfall in edessa, a small city in north Greece also worths a visit! From cities I would say Ioannina (it has a huge lake) and volos (good food, many beaches around, and Pelion next to it with its picturesque villages on the mountain, and again beautiful beaches! I guess is enough for now haha but ask me again if you want more suggestions!! 🙂

I've been on permanent overtime all through covid, and now on double shifts for a month straight 6-7 days a week. This video just killed me. Lol. Greece is number 2 on my list of places to go. I want to see the sequoia and redwood forests in California first for a few weeks and drive back and forth to the beach and good restaurants every other day that I'm not at the forests..... :/

Might have to bump Greece up to my first place to go and do a week in Crete and a week in Athens and travel around daily.....security boomed when covid hit, and workforce disappeared for new hires. very nice video i even learn for new place in greece as i greek person i didnt know only one place missing from my top which is the waterfalls in small city of edessa which you can do a small trip for 3-4 days to visit the small city of pella (old capital city of macadonia empire from alexander the great) second day visit edessa and at the 3rd day you can visit loutra pozar. each place of those are amazing and ofc there is many things around to visit around those places as it small cities and villages with beutiful views and buildings, edessa, loutra pozar and pella are just the main destination for each day
Great video Ryan mate! Still sooo much more which is what makes it one of the best countries to travel to. If you're looking for new places there I'd recommend Samothrace as an island, elafonisos, kea island, and the country of thrake at the north of Greece :) any island will do tbh!
@@RyanShirley Ahhh sadge. You passed actually right through it's suburbs, it's the town you passed when you entered the undersea tunnel to go to Lefkada. It's in the straits of Actium, where the naval battle of Actium between Mark Anony & Cleopata with Actavian Augustus took place. It's one of the fastest rising destinations in Greece the last decade, it's just next to Lefkada and Parga which are extremely popular with tourists (rightfully so) so it's now taking steam. It's also a place where more Greeks and Italians prefer to visit rather than other tourists so it's more "original" place to see how Greeks live everyday. What Ryan is actually showing is only a fraction of the true beauty in Greece. Much of it are a selection of the famed places. Unfortunately even Ryan falls under the category of not knowing much about the country. Because if he would, he could have mentioned so many other areas of outrageous beauty and have mentioned things like: the Pindus mountains, Karpenisi-Prousos, Tzoumerka mountains, many many secrets in Epirus, one of the 400 wetlands/marshlands areas, Mountains of Giona, Vardousia, Timfristos, Tymfi, Parnassos, Pindus, agrafa mountains, Lake kerkini, Acheloos valley, Rhodope mountains, Athos holy mountain and so much more. And these are just some of the many special areas on the mainland, let alone the many other islands. He, like every person who are not so educated on Greece picks out of the selection of 15-20 Greek islands often featured. But the other 6000 islands are just not mentioned at all in videos like these, and extremely unfair too. I just came from just Thassos island alone. It's a heavenly island. But he did make a step. He actually mentioned Mount Olympus, an area in Epirus province (but missing so so many other gems in this area), which is basically a good beginning. But Greece consists of 80% mountains subdivided into 400 mountains or mountain ranges, many of them snowcapped till June, with the many gems all around and in-between them

If you want to visit all of them I’d say at least a month, but if you just want to visit a few a week is a good amount of time

The island is overall known for pilgrimage, and has a lot of churches and monasteries and of course for its ouzo so don't forget to try it 😉, and eat sardines and zucchini flowers (you can ask it as kolokithoanthus, I guess too difficult but yeah 😅). Skopelos is small but for me one of the most beautiful islands I have been, worthing to visit milia, mamma Mia, kastani, and Hovolo beaches (there are more but with those I fell in love). Samothraki you should visit the bathres and the fonias waterfall/lake/river, you can walk next to the river, swim in the lake, and climb up/walk (I was very young when I went, I remember that was challenging to go up) next to the waterfall. In Chios you have to see the windmills close to the vrontados village, and visit small islands nearby such as oinousses or psara. From lakes I cannot recommend enough Acheron, cold water (I like to swim in rivers with around 10-15 degrees water temperature), you can do rafting there and some other activities! The Karonos waterfall in edessa, a small city in north Greece also worths a visit! From cities I would say Ioannina (it has a huge lake) and volos (good food, many beaches around, and Pelion next to it with its picturesque villages on the mountain, and again beautiful beaches! I guess is enough for now haha but ask me again if you want more suggestions!! 🙂

I've been on permanent overtime all through covid, and now on double shifts for a month straight 6-7 days a week. This video just killed me. Lol. Greece is number 2 on my list of places to go. I want to see the sequoia and redwood forests in California first for a few weeks and drive back and forth to the beach and good restaurants every other day that I'm not at the forests..... :/

very nice video i even learn for new place in greece as i greek person i didnt know only one place missing from my top which is the waterfalls in small city of edessa which you can do a small trip for 3-4 days to visit the small city of pella (old capital city of macadonia empire from alexander the great) second day visit edessa and at the 3rd day you can visit loutra pozar. each place of those are amazing and ofc there is many things around to visit around those places as it small cities and villages with beutiful views and buildings, edessa, loutra pozar and pella are just the main destination for each day

@@RyanShirley Ahhh sadge. You passed actually right through it's suburbs, it's the town you passed when you entered the undersea tunnel to go to Lefkada. It's in the straits of Actium, where the naval battle of Actium between Mark Anony & Cleopata with Actavian Augustus took place. It's one of the fastest rising destinations in Greece the last decade, it's just next to Lefkada and Parga which are extremely popular with tourists (rightfully so) so it's now taking steam. It's also a place where more Greeks and Italians prefer to visit rather than other tourists so it's more "original" place to see how Greeks live everyday. What Ryan is actually showing is only a fraction of the true beauty in Greece. Much of it are a selection of the famed places. Unfortunately even Ryan falls under the category of not knowing much about the country. Because if he would, he could have mentioned so many other areas of outrageous beauty and have mentioned things like: the Pindus mountains, Karpenisi-Prousos, Tzoumerka mountains, many many secrets in Epirus, one of the 400 wetlands/marshlands areas, Mountains of Giona, Vardousia, Timfristos, Tymfi, Parnassos, Pindus, agrafa mountains, Lake kerkini, Acheloos valley, Rhodope mountains, Athos holy mountain and so much more. And these are just some of the many special areas on the mainland, let alone the many other islands. He, like every person who are not so educated on Greece picks out of the selection of 15-20 Greek islands often featured. But the other 6000 islands are just not mentioned at all in videos like these, and extremely unfair too. I just came from just Thassos island alone. It's a heavenly island.
But he did make a step. He actually mentioned Mount Olympus, an area in Epirus province (but missing so so many other gems in this area), which is basically a good beginning. But Greece consists of 80% mountains subdivided into 400 mountains or mountain ranges, many of them snowcapped till June, with the many gems all around and in-between them

I think it’s a good base! You can take a ferry to some or fly to all of them from athens
