I am in love with this game! As someone who could have been considered a PS3 fanboy i guess, i have been playing the crap out of this game...well for the few hours i've had it already, lol.
This game really surprised me! I was expecting a dumbed down version of the PS3 and 360 equivalents due out on June 22nd, or even something resembling the Transformers Armada game for the PS2. What i got was something closer to a Gears of War clone!
Let me explain, the game could be considered an "on rails" shooter, but in actuality it is much deeper than that if you don't look too far. As the level plays out, you will run from point to point and mount your position. From there you will use the Wii-mote's pointer to attack the enemies. When a wave is taken care of, or an event happens, you will run to the next vantage point. If the action permits, you also may transform into vehicle mode and roll out!
In vehicle mode, you do have the freedom of movement, and you have a strait machine gun, or a secondary lock on missile volley. In later levels you have the opportunity to play as Air Raid and Jetfire, and instead of driving, you are of course flying.
Now how is this compared to Gears of War? Well let me explain. In Gears, your first instinct in a gunfight is to mount up and take cover. You lock yourself into cover, and pick off the enemies from certain vantage points. While you do have the option to melee and run from cover to cover, in Transformers once a certain wave is diminished, the game takes you to another vantage point. This may seem limiting, but it keeps the action going and gives it a very cinematic feel where everything stays fast paced, and the story is able to flow fluidly.
The story! Amazing...it has that G1 feel through and through. A few things i noticed is that the announcer doing the loading screens sounds almost like the voice actor from the original series, which is a quirky throwback to the G1, but also, when the characters talk to each other, they make sure to say the name of the person they are talking too. It feels unnatural, but that is how the G1 series just did it.
Overall, i am enjoying this game! I have been impatiently waiting for the PS3 version, and seeing this in the store, i had to pick it up to whet my thirst until i get my hands on the PS3 version. I will defiantly have to finish this game before i move on to the next. If you are a G1 transformers fan...pick this game up.
It has a 2 player mode that i have yet to try...cause i only have one wii-mote, but if you have young kids and are a G1 fan...pick this up. If you are a Gears fan...pick this up. If you are only rocking the Wii...pick this up. I enjoyed this game a great deal!
Autobots...Transform and ROLL OUT!
@ChroniclingOfDreams That does surprise me. I would have liked to play an actual Transformers war. We have had so many games where it's the battle between Autobots and Decepticons. But only recently do we actually get to play this war. That's what I've wanted.
The Wii version at first upset me because it seemed to follow the RotF engine. But fortunatly the game does look tons better.
This... Actually looks really good. I would have appreciated WFC even more if Highmoon decided to include more campaigns like this. Where WFC felt like one long battle, this game makes it feel more like a war.

Why did they make the Wii version so different to the PS3 and XBOX versions?

I supose if you do have a 360/PS3 and a Wii this game is still worth getting besides the awesome HD versions. Still as a none HD console owner, I wished the Wii did have lesser version of the PS3/360 vesrions.
But the game is entertaining.
