while you're right that there are plenty of so-called hipster bands performing uptempo music in a relatively unenthusiastic fashion, i think this type of music - called shoegaze - is meant to be performed the way lp is performing it...it's supposed to be pretty low-key, at least that's my two cents
Lockett is naturally quite awkward though. So it's no shock that he's not outgoing on stage. Dunno about the other guys, but it would probably be a little weird looking if the front man is hardly getting into it while the rest of the band looks super enthusiastic. plus, it all depends on the music you're playing and the reaction you get from a crowd.
