    Hi would this work on 2016 qx60 base model with no navigation? I am wanting to install this but want to ensure it works before I purchase

    Are you still able to use the existing USB/iPod ports in the front to charge your phone after this installation?

      Yes, you are able to use all OEM ports after install. Our system has it's own USB connection cable. Thank you

    This is in my wife’s qx60 and I’ve noticed that when she calls me, I can’t hear her very well. Her phone is only connected to CarPlay - I deleted it from the Infiniti system. I assume that physically speaking, it’s using the Infiniti mic above the driver. Any complaints from your car?

      Funny enough, I installed it for my wife's QX60 as well. At first we had the same problem and we think it uses both the CarPlay speaker AND CarPlay mic when the audio source is not set to iPod. When she switches to iPod audio source before the call it seems to use the Infiniti mic above the driver and we haven't had issues. I was going to try and run the CarPlay mic cable out from under the kick panel into the passenger area to see if that would solve the issue for the times we're not connected to the iPod audio source but I haven't tried that yet.

      @@shaneperche-fixed-it there was a lot of cables so I couldn’t remember if there was a mic for the CarPlay unit. I’ll look for that too.

      @@shaneperche-fixed-it I learned something, and it’s pretty important. As you started, there is a mic cable on the CarPlay box, but the physical MIC itself isn’t accessible (I’m honestly not sure where the cable goes to and I don’t want to pull my dash apart again).
      The way unavi designed it is that you should have your phone paired with the Infiniti side as well as CarPlay. This allows you to use the mic above the driver head and it integrates seamlessly with CarPlay.
      This also allows you to use the steering wheel to answer calls if you don’t mind it switching from CarPlay on the display.
      Lastly, I only paired to Infiniti for phone calls, not streaming.

      @@TallFamilyFilms So did that fix the issue when the Audio isn't set to CarPlay? i.e. Does it now always use the Infiniti mic? I just assumed the mic would be attached to the CarPlay module in the kick panel but it sounds like it's running back to the center console the way you described it.

      @@shaneperche-fixed-it I’ll need to test if audio is NOT on iPod. I don’t think that would make a difference, But when it is, and you make/receive a call, the phone shows it’s connected to the car and not CarPlay for that call. But CarPlay does show the call as if it’s done from the unavi.

    After having this for a few months now, I am seeing some annoyances. With phone calls, if you touch the carplay display to make a call, the phone defaults to using "CarPlay" for the mic. This microphone is confusing because it does work, but everyone says the sound is muffled. You have to change the mic to the infiniti and it's fine. But this is every time. Answering calls has similar annoyances. Unavi wants you to use Siri for making calls and the steering wheel for answering (which causes the display to flip away from Carplay).
    I bought an external mic and I am going to try to wire it into the Unavi (You show where it plugs in around 19:15. The white wire is positive according to my volt meter while talking. My hope is to disable infiniti bluetooth and only use Carplay for everything.

    how many hours would you say this would take?

    • @shaneperche-fixed-it
      @shaneperche-fixed-it  11 місяців тому

      It took me a about 4 hours of effort (about 6 in duration with a lunch break) but I was also recording the installation so that added a bit more time. You definitely want to take your time with the ribbon cables and not rush that part to make sure everything is connected firmly. It also took a bit of time to fish the cables down to the kick panel so you need some patience with this install. But we are really enjoying the wireless CarPlay/Android Auto and current Google/Siri maps since Infiniti is not doing map updates anymore.

      @@shaneperche-fixed-it awesome. Thanks for the REALLY helpful walk through. I’m curious how the wireless operates. I assume my phone is paired to the Infiniti interface for CarPlay to find it?
      Second, if I turn car on, does it automatically switch to CarPlay if my phone is nearby?

    • @shaneperche-fixed-it
      @shaneperche-fixed-it  11 місяців тому

      It is actually paired with the UNAVI module the first time you plug your phone into the USB port. After that it automatically switches over wirelessly when your phone is in Bluetooth range. In order to use the Infiniti speakers, you need to have the audio source set to iPod but you could also listen to the radio and just have the CarPlay display maps, text messages, email, etc. The module comes with a small internal speaker so it will still provide audio navigation when listening to the radio but the quality and volume are not as good as when using the Infiniti speakers.

      @@shaneperche-fixed-it I was curious what that little speaker was for. If I pair with Infiniti system and use Infiniti speakers, is the little speaker ever used?

    • @shaneperche-fixed-it
      @shaneperche-fixed-it  11 місяців тому +1

      That little speaker is used only when you don't have the Infiniti audio source set to iPod. For example, sometimes I listen to a local radio station and I have the Infiniti audio source set to FM but I'm still using Siri to provide the navigation on the display so the little speaker provides the audio navigation over top of the radio. It will also be used if your Infiniti audio is turned off completely. It's super handy for situations like that but if you have your audio always set to iPod you probably won't be using it much.

      Yes, the USB ports in the tray still work after the install. The only thing I lost was the 12V cigarette charger in the center console but it was replaced with an additional USB charger.

      @@cans7125 Oh darn... sounds like maybe it got disconnected during the install by accident. You might have to pull that panel out again and check the connections for the USB cables on both ends.
