Apoorva Gokhale: Raag Nayaki Kanada

Apoorva Gokhale's second piece of her recital at the FEA-curated CROSSROADS festival in Mumbai was in Raag Nayaki Kanada. She was accompanied by Yati Bhagwat on tabla and Chaitanya Kunte on harmonium. Vocal support and tanpuras were provided by Amritha Shenoy-Kamath and Aditi Joshi.

Byaahan aaya
Chhail chhabila ladla rangila.
Bhooshan haar chameli bela
Kangana haath sajeela.
Vilambit tilwada. Gwalior gharana khyal.
Raag nayaki kanhada . Beautiful raag.
Vaadi madhyam , samvaadi shadj.
Gayan samay ratri ka dwitiya prahar.
Gambhir prakriti . Gandhar and nishad komal.
Kafi thaat.

Here she is singing pure indian classical music! The first composition she sings is in vilambit or really slow rythmic cycle like one beat per two seconds. The wordings are banaraa mora pyaara.... The composition is made for the description of the writer's groom.. and the second composition, the writer is talking about her lover and her lovely plays and incidents when her lover just held her hand and didn't let her go... Beautiful compositions!!
