I had laser iridotomy performed on both eyes on Friday. My eye pressures were normal and I had no issues, but my angles were rated a grade 1 and the trabecular meshwork could not be seen in any quadrant. The risk of an acute angle closure attack was high.
I have brown eyes so was warned that several laser shots might be needed, as the irises are thicker in dark eyes. I was also warned that there could be some bleeding as the blood vessels cannot be seen in dark eyes...
The procedure was very straightforward. It felt like someone was flicking my eye, but it wasn't painful. I had 2 shots in each eye and there was no bleeding. I had been warned of blurry vision from the pupil constriction drops and a headache, but did not have either of these problems. You would not know I had anything done to my eyes as they looked completely normal - not even a hint of pink!
I'm now 2 days post treatment and my right eye is a little achy and feels a bit "gritty". I have developed a horizontal white line in certain conditions - initially, it was only when I was driving in the dark, but I discovered this morning that it appears when driving in bright sunshine too. It doesn't obstruct my vision, it's more of an annoyance. When it first appeared yesterday, I thought I had a hair on my face and I spent some time trying to remove the hair. Hopefully my brain will get used to it over time and I'll be able to ignore it. Like I say, it doesn't hinder my vision in any way, I'm just aware that it is there...

Had this done today, was worried beforehand but shouldn’t have been, it all went very well. Hardly any discomfort and no complications. I read all the risks online and you get carried away with it, whereas most studies say these are rare. The hole is tiny and covered by my eyelid. I was having slight pain in the eye and it’s now gone. Now the pupil dilating drops have worn off, my vision is perfect after just two hours.

@@RA82828 Very well, thanks. She had both eyes done, one week apart and the pressure has been good since.

@Tania PENALOZA Hello, Tania! Happy to say I am quite well and have had no issues from the procedures thus far. Both eyes were done a few days apart; one on 03May and the second on 07May. I had plane reservations for 13May and was cleared to fly on the 12th by my ophthalmologist. The actual procedure is not awful, but there was some low-level pain (esp. when the laser punched thru the iris). Your eye surface is thoroughly numbed, and other drops are used to bring your pupil to a pinpoint. This can cause a headache, for which I was given Tylenol at the time. I'm retired from the medical profession so I researched things and was mentally prepared. That being said, I found it a uniquely odd and just slightly uncomfortable 30 minutes or so, per eye, for the actual deed by my Doc. You'll need someone to take you to the appointment and drive you home. 24 hours, or so, of uncomfortableness followed. You'll be given Rx eyedrops to use. I traveled to the Midwest for a month as planned, and have had no problems at all. Both eye pressures are normal and I have no visual disturbances of any kind. And my grandsons LOVE the fact that Grampa now has two pupils in each eye! ::-) Hope this helps you, Tania. Please write back after you've recovered and let me know, eh? And do pay it forward when the opportunity arises - we all could use some more kindness these days! Best Wishes, Steve

@Tania PENALOZA You're most welcome! If the ophthalmologist says you have narrow angles, this is a really big deal. When the angles close off, the fluid inside your eyes cannot circulate and the pressure builds. Sudden attacks are a critical emergency to prevent blindness. When I was in emergency medicine years ago, this would mean some pretty drastic surgery. Now, with these laser treatments, your risk is essentially gone for good! The treatments have been in use for many years now and the risk of a failure is very low. Was an easy decision for me to make. Be well. :-)

Is it ok or better to get 2 eyes done at the same time?

I am having this laser procedure not because of glaucoma but because of an ICL surgery to correct my -7.50 high myopia and astigmatism that will occur after this Iridotomy - I am nervous about this procedure, if something goes wrong I will not have the ICL and it would have been for nothing and my vision can even get worst that it is.
