  • Mods for the FT-857 and FT-891 should be similar. Here is the document detailing this mod, and others: www.qsl.net/oz1dgq/home-filer...

    Please note that this mod only to ft-897's units outside of Japan. The ones made for Japan are hard coded and will not respond to the mod for TX.

    Note: the jumper numbering is labelled on the circuit board,to the right of the jumpers.
    My radio had factory jumpers on 1 and 8.
    I really did enjoy your witty explanation,
    Thank you sir from New Zealand.

    And people wonder why the 11m DX community love HAM radios . 90% of the operators I know run modded 10-12m radios or expanded Yaesus and Icoms . I've always found it funny how the manufacturers will build them this way with all the shitty regs involved , add some jumpers or a resistor , cut a jumper here or there and BAM . My newest radio is a AT6666 and all I had to do was push a couple buttons in the menu , smh , like a big old middle finger in the face of the FCC .

    Thanks for the demo. Love your outlook and sense of humor.
    Just picked up a 897d from our radio net auction with FC30 tuner. Just wanted to see how involved mod is.

    Thankyou for this video i can confirm it works on a 897-d at first i didnt work because the operating manual explains 3 ways to do resets vm+ pwr or f+pwr or home+pwr the home +pwr does a full master rest and over rules the other 2 but the magic secret was the F+VM+PWR and THIS WORKS your a legend

    The blob doesn't need to be large and has no affect on performance on size...add SMD291 flux, for the chip resistor removal -- it will save you shaving off the PCB traces if you are a brute or don't have enough heat and is generally good practice.

    Great video! Thank you. Where did you get the side rails for the FT-897? I've been looking high and low for a set!

    Hey, kinda related, I blew the f 1001 fuse for the CAT putting a panadaptor board in her. Do you have a resource for those? Google can’t find any

    Hey Lee, a follow up on my Japanese model 897 mars mod. I don’t think it’s possible. UA-cam won’t let me post a picture for you, but the configuration is different and one jumper is non existent. Anyways, just fyi, hope all is well

    Hey Lee, do you have any knowledge of if this would work on the Japanese model of this radio? The model that has reduced tx range and wattage? Thanks

      If I recall correctly, I have read that the mods for the Japanese model are different, but I don't have any direct experience with that one. And I may be misremembering.

    why is it called mars/cap?

    • @Lee_Adamson_OCF
      @Lee_Adamson_OCF  Місяць тому +1

      The original TX expansion mods were for 2m radios, which made them cover the nearby Military Auxiliary Radio System and Civil Air Patrol bands (both of which aren't really in use much as far as I can tell other than for business band comms). Modern radios are capable of transmitting on a much wider range of frequencies, but a lot of us still call it a "MARS/CAP mod" out of habit.
