I'm reading a few, among them my favorite is "Again My life" about a prosecutor who upon being killed by a corrupt politician travels back to his high school years retaining his knowledge of the future
Chances are no one else is going to mention it, but Katekyo Hitman Reborn features both timelines and time leaps. The existence of parallel worlds/timelines is incredibly important later on, and is tied to the time travel that leads to a gigantic story arc.
Surprisingly, Vivy Fluorite Eye's Song accomplished the whole "go back in time and fix the future from disaster" thing pretty well in a unique way with all key events feeling natural with an insane logical plot twist near the end. And this was all done in 13 episodes. Thank you MB for giving attention to Vivy regarding this to everyone. This anime absolutely deserves it.
i liked it but the ending feels like... i don't know, like "climatic moment happens, and it just ends". like it needed like 2 minutes to at least show a montage WALL-E style showing them fix the rest in a "everything will be fine onwards" way, but it didn't. it just ends alongside a post credits scene. is not helped that the final episode wasted minutes showing vivy time travelling to the past when the previous episode (the second to last) already having time travelled so the first minutes of last episode until elizabeth appears are kinda filler. is not helped that DYNAZENON (which aired at the same time) managed to have a more climatic ending while still having time to let the finale slow down and feel more conclusive
It Doesnt really deserve much. It was shallow mediocrity more than half of its runtime. (Didnt finish it ofc). So yeah, unfortunatly a dissapointment from the author
@@Exel3nce Personally it does the whole travel uniquely by using the music genre. Mix that with A.I robots and you get an emotion driven action packed well written story. Vivy accomplished this in 13 episodes which some time travel series don't accomplish in even 24 episodes. But hey I respect your opinion. Do give it another try. Once episode 10 hits, everything will make sense in a logical way.
Stein's Gate is such a great anime, When I first watched it I fell in love with it right away, and it has both a great Japanese vocal cast AND a great English dub, essentially doubling the timelines with a re-watch factor for both languages
Disagree I think the anime is pretty boring with some great moments sprinkled in. The animation really takes me out of it. Fight scenes are just slow and barely animated. Hope it gets better because I do enjoy the characters
I like the closed loop style personally. Not technically an anime, but Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency plays with the concept wonderfully in the first season, and actually turns into a goddamned isekai in the second. The way they pull it off is just the best.
i m SO happy you gave link click a shot AND that you mentioned it in a video you have no idea. it s so underrated in the west (fuck knows its doin great in china) im just happy you re bringing attention to it :]
I have a suspicion that others in the US who watch anime are too used to the voice of Japanese VAs, and/or English VAs, so they aren’t used to Korean accents. That’s just my guess though
Time travel in general is hard to pull off without just shredding it full of inconsistencies and giant plotholes so you got to admire those that do it well.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is so, so good. I can count on one hand the number of pieces of media which made me cry outright, and that film is one of them.

Another type of isekai "sort of" time travel; when the mc knows what happens in the future because mc reads/plays it before and uses it to achieve his/her own survival but cannot reset once he/she are inside that world. and yeah Link click is great.
steins gate is the best one IMO it has a perfect storyline which could be understood by anyone it's so easy to understand yet so complicated the first12 episodes may be boring but it's the 13th episode where the chaos breaks free it doesn't have any plotholes the fact that you can change the ENTIRE past with a single message or the concept of different world lines is simply amazing or the emotional barriers okabe faces while trying to undo the Dmails sent into the past
I think Steins; Gate was one of the best anime that included timelines and all. It was just perfection to be honest. Vivy and Erased were pretty good too!

18:59 I think Gigguk has proven that trying to make a video about trying to make sense of Fate lore is a bad idea itself, as he himself fully admits in the video where he tried lol (though easily the worst part of trying to figure it out is trying to make sense of the FGO branch of the timeline, as he just drew a bunch of scribbles instead lol).
12:23 LINK CLICK is too good I finished in two days and the last ep made me cry, can't wait for 2nd season. make a video on it so more people will see this amazing show!!
My favorite take on time travel came from one episode of "Red Dwarf" where the gang went to a planet/world where everything was going backwards. The part where Cat went into the bushes to do his business, and came back seriously weirded out, was priceless! ;)
2:09 Ah yes the classic trope of "remembering someone from an erased future even though that makes no sense as the paradox neatly erases itself, preventing that from ever happening."

When time travel is implemented where a person travels to a different period is different from that of real-world accounts and shows fantasy elements, it still makes me see it as the same world being Earth but at another time. Inuyasha is an example of Feudal Japan but with Demons and Magic, but the modern-day is rather mundane to the past. The story involves a different fantasy period but may also show that as time progressed, something happened that led demons and magic to become obscure. This reminds me of the live-action Merlin, where we see that the past of Camelot was magical, but then in the future of modern-day, it's closer to our current society. What I am trying to say is that if we time travel, it involves traveling through time, thus ending up in a different age rather than a different world other than Earth.
Wait, is your main idea basically “when ppl time travel to a fantastical historical era, they’re still traveling thru time” ?? What’s even the point of that long paragraph?? 😵💫
@@UGNAvalon Sorry for any confusion. What I was saying is that they are still on Earth but at a different period when they travel through time, thus making instances where the age is more fantastic, not an isekai.

@Lionard Kirsch time travel just came crashing down after Eren sent a titan to kill her mother which created a paradox to the entire plot of Aot and also one of the reasons why the ending became so hated alongside many reasons

@@Exel3nce i guess different people have different opinions. Personally, out of like.. 20 series i watched last season, this one is the best.
@@Exel3nce finish the anime, you will understand why
It's only complete one you've watched zero. Both are required for the full story.
As soon as I saw the trailer for Tokyo revengers, I instantly started the manga finishing it in 2 days. Definitely a contender for anime of the year
Disagree I think the anime is pretty boring with some great moments sprinkled in. The animation really takes me out of it. Fight scenes are just slow and barely animated. Hope it gets better because I do enjoy the characters
@@brandonw6139 type of person to think naruto is the best anime of all time, totally neglecting character and story flaws.
@@brandonw6139 the uncensored version has a lot more scenes and animation, the censored one ruins the animation
@@MachoTM yea that's true. Still think it's lack luster I've seen both
@@muun9403 Naruto is one of my faves but it definitely has issues with pacing and character's.
I like the closed loop style personally. Not technically an anime, but Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency plays with the concept wonderfully in the first season, and actually turns into a goddamned isekai in the second. The way they pull it off is just the best.
I am perpetually heartbroken that there will never be a season 3 of Dirk Gently. They really did a phenomenal job on that show.
@@ShizukaNIX Same, but it does have that in common with the books the show was inspired by.
i m SO happy you gave link click a shot AND that you mentioned it in a video you have no idea. it s so underrated in the west (fuck knows its doin great in china) im just happy you re bringing attention to it :]
I have a suspicion that others in the US who watch anime are too used to the voice of Japanese VAs, and/or English VAs, so they aren’t used to Korean accents. That’s just my guess though
@@garrettdyches8426 it s chinese actually but yeah there s a huge amount of weebs that just refuse to check out other stuff bcs its not in japanese
Did you also watch Scamboli.
Vivy Fluorite Eye's Song is anime of the year for me
Time travel in general is hard to pull off without just shredding it full of inconsistencies and giant plotholes so you got to admire those that do it well.
True that
Thank you for introducing me to Link Click!! This was everything i needed in an animation and I hope more people get to know this AMAZING story too!
That Zero Escape Soundtrack is a real banger and fits the video 100%
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is so, so good. I can count on one hand the number of pieces of media which made me cry outright, and that film is one of them.
Vivy is probably my anime of the year so far. The story is so good!!
Good to know I stil have PTSD from the rabbits
I saw Monty Python first....
Me too Buddy......
Me too
@@Chihirolee3 It feels less disturbing than the Re Zero one. The screams and gore of the Re Zero scene were terrifying.
I love time travel stories. Steins;Gate (and now Vivy) being amongst my favorites. There’s just so much potential in the premise.
Oh thank god, I was scared you'd get through an entire show about time travel and not mention Link Click.

I'm so glad to see Batman Ninja get some attention. It's such an amazing experience, and everyone needs to see it.
Geoff: starts talking about timeloops
Me, finally noticing the zero escape ost playing in the bg: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Absolutely loving the very fitting background audio from the zero escape series, excellent choice
Let's be real here, you could probably teach an entire full-semester class on Fate lore and still not run out of stuff to talk about, it's just that complicated
Considering that it is a growing thing is actually terrifying to imagine what will it become after decades to come
You nailed it, the anime landscape is a nightmare.
Steins gate is one of the best anime’s I’ve seen
When I'm suggested these videos, I literally sit there a minute examining your pretty thumbnail.
Another type of isekai "sort of" time travel; when the mc knows what happens in the future because mc reads/plays it before and uses it to achieve his/her own survival but cannot reset once he/she are inside that world. and yeah Link click is great.
steins gate is the best one IMO
it has a perfect storyline which could be understood by anyone
it's so easy to understand yet so complicated
the first12 episodes may be boring but it's the 13th episode where the chaos breaks free
it doesn't have any plotholes
the fact that you can change the ENTIRE past with a single message or the concept of different world lines is simply amazing
or the emotional barriers okabe faces while trying to undo the Dmails sent into the past
The Zero Escape ost in the background is a really good choice for this video. It is the best time travel visual novel.
I’m so glad you mentioned Zipang. I decided to watch it after you mentioned it and it was great!
I think Steins; Gate was one of the best anime that included timelines and all. It was just perfection to be honest. Vivy and Erased were pretty good too!
I thought my insults would fall on deaf ears be he really did it!
But yet not enough Link Click, it deserves two dedicated videos. At minimum.
Everyone knows the best time travel is in haruhi endless eight WAS the perfect example of a time loop
link click is so good!! and its so short too so please, take some time to immerse yourself in it. great storyline, great writing, great voice acting, BEAUTIFUL scenes. oh, and prepare some tissues.
18:59 I think Gigguk has proven that trying to make a video about trying to make sense of Fate lore is a bad idea itself, as he himself fully admits in the video where he tried lol (though easily the worst part of trying to figure it out is trying to make sense of the FGO branch of the timeline, as he just drew a bunch of scribbles instead lol).
glad you covered link clink, def underrated
12:23 LINK CLICK is too good I finished in two days and the last ep made me cry, can't wait for 2nd season. make a video on it so more people will see this amazing show!!
My favorite take on time travel came from one episode of "Red Dwarf" where the gang went to a planet/world where everything was going backwards. The part where Cat went into the bushes to do his business, and came back seriously weirded out, was priceless! ;)
2:09 Ah yes the classic trope of "remembering someone from an erased future even though that makes no sense as the paradox neatly erases itself, preventing that from ever happening."
Literally the best channel !!!😌😌😌😌
Everyone should watch Re:Zero, but also this show is not for everyone, but if it is for you, then you will love it!
I just finished season 2 and watched season 1 yesterday. Great show. It did tune travek nicely and was the first isakai I’ve watched.
i watched it all and it just honestly kinda bored me. Just wasnt for me.
I would recommend to read the novels since they're way better than the anime
@@1steking yea i've read arc 6, and its a crazy roller coaster. I recommend that you should just read the web novel yourself, which can be read for free on whichculttranslations.
Thank youu for this vid on time travel in anime. I dont usually comment but this was 100% worth it. love it
Vivy deserves a ballot in the anime of the year vote
We can do 2 top anime. The ones from Spring and the ones from the rest of the year. If we count all of 2021 as a whole, all the best anime will be on spring
I’m so glad you brought up Link Click in this video because I was really sad to not see it in you ones to watch list
I just finished steins gate, and I watched rezero a while ago, I just love time travel in anime!
0:01 nice Zero Escape music!
Perfect for the theme of time travel!
Stein's Gate wins the time travel competition hands down.
What makes it supperior to the other? If you son't mind explaining it, that is.
I don't agree.. personally, I think ... Having the first 12 episodes so boring, annoying, and dependent on the rest of the show is not good,
but I loved the episodes after it
I had to watch it like three times to finally break through that barrier. Before that I always ended up dropping the anime. But once I broke through it, I binged the rest and ended up considering it one of the best time-travel stories I've seen
@@filipe2338 But what makes it so much "superior" to other then? Please tell me!
@@DarkGamerA The First 12 episode is the reason why it became known as one of the only few anime that manages time travel to work. It's not pointless at all, it builds how the whole time travel aspect work and how the world within steins gate works (characters, time travel mechanic, etc), is it boring? I guess for a lot of people (not for me as I enjoy explanations and build ups) but calling it pointless is just... no.
YESSS THANK YOU FOR RECOMMENDING LINK CLICK!! It was a rollercoaster ride and probably one of my anime of the year, if not THE anime of the year
I wish there was an easy list of all the anime you’ve mentioned. There have been so many times when I want to find a specific one you mentioned, but I can’t without scrolling through the video slowly
every time i think "this video is not for me," you prove me wrong with another engaging and thoughtful video essay 🌟
Steins; Gate is peak time travel. So simple yet beautiful in it's simplicity
Also.... Zero Chill : The Animation; the most complete description of Mirai Nikki I've ever heard 🤣🤣
I died laughing 🤣🤣
You should check out dark on Netflix. It's not anime, but I actually much prefer it to steins; gate.
I love Vivy. I haven’t cried so much for a single show in a long time. After the first arc, I kept crying at the end of each arc.
link click is my favourite show from this year and i would Love to see a whole video on it if you ever have the inclination, especially because it could really use a bump in popularity
Easily the best ad read I've seen in a while
Vivy’s probably my anime of the year, with tokyo revengers close behind
Same
@Nerfular who may that be
@Nerfular Who is that? TR is great too but so is Vivy.
Mine too so far. After that is To Your Eternity.
How is that possible
love the use of the zero escape music here. fantastic choice
I had been wanting a mother's basement video. This must be the choice of Stein's Gate!
@@bearberserker ah ok, so "it's not 'isekai' bc it's not 'another world'." That makes sense. 👍
But then there's the question of "hidden, near-separate worlds" like Harry Potter and Faerie stories... 🤔
@@UGNAvalon I think that depends on one what type of setting it is. In Harry Potter, I was always confused about how if Hogwarts and all of these magical places were hidden on Earth or were they are separated in their own dimension.
Ya know what I just found out last week, Tokyo Revengers was also inspired by Re:Zero and Erased
But tokyo revengers >> re zero and erased its manga is on next level manga us way hyped
@@_chan6xopy nah Re:Zero absolutely clears TR
Yo, you just made me binge watch Link Click! I need season 2 on that STAT!
Help I recently finished Vivy and I can't stop thinking about it
I was ready to conplain about why Okabe is not in the thumbnail but then I heard Gate of Steiner in the background!!...well no complaints!!
Time travel is one of my favourite genres.
Thank you, someone who knows Vivy
Seriously, its so great and everyone should watch it
THIS is true.
Don't know man, til the last episode it was excelent but that...
Time travel out of nowhere just to put a happy ending was kinda boring and had less impact than the bad ending.
Thanks for the reference to Gunbuster... the end of that made me cry.
As did the end of it's follow up series.
You can't be a time travel anime without the MC suffering and being in pain.
I love the Zero Escape music at the beginning. Very nice touch.

Past Geoff: "anything else I should know?"
Future Geoff: "Don't watch The Promised Neverland and Wonder Egg Priority!"
Past Geoff: "too late"
Future Geoff returns: Watch Wonder Egg Priority but only up till episode 7.
Cyborg Geoff from another timeline appears and shots future Geoff: Don't watch So I'm a Spider So What? It will make you ill.
I think that was the best sponsorship segue I've seen in the last months. That was smooth as shit.
Time travel could either be amazing or awful. Its a double edged sword.
It fucked Aot that's for sure
@Lionard Kirsch time travel just came crashing down after Eren sent a titan to kill her mother which created a paradox to the entire plot of Aot and also one of the reasons why the ending became so hated alongside many reasons
I think a lot depends on whether the story is actually about time travel, or whether it's just thrown in as an excuse for something dumb or for a cheap twist.
Aot without Time travel will not make sense since Eren just motivate and arranged the massacre of Royal family and motivating his self in the past
@@sort6726 current aot will not happen without Dina killing Carla
