An old plumber taught me a cool little trick for checking for leaks, he'd take a "square" of toilet paper and just drag it over the fittings. Any liquid touches it, and it shows up immediately. He could pinpoint a leak in a matter of seconds doing that! I've used that ever since... lol. Good one Kiwi, and it's always nice to get an easy one in from time to time.
I don't think most people appreciate how the lightweight Fords(Mustang, Falcon, Maverick, Fairlane) were designed with nothing to spare, engineering wise. Even the fenders are part of the overall structure. If Ford put something there, the car needs it! 🙂👍
Man all you gotta do is TRY and do a good job and people with old cars flock to you. I’m booked up through the end of the year and I’m about 20% as good at my job as this guy.

panel bonding done correctly is insanely strong we did a destruction test mig vs resistance vs panel bonded on our frame machine its as strong as resistance welding for tearing. it has its place but must be used only where its allowed on newer vehicles its not a short cut product in collision repair.
Would adding some rubber mounts near where you were jacking the exhaust pipes make sense? I didn't quite get it. With that plate bolted on under the pipes, they're going to bounce around and clang if not supported, I would think.
Wow. One of the- if not THE most important system on a car- brakes- should be gone over multiple times before setting the car loose on the streets. That's a scary one! Really like that trick to gain clearance on the exhaust- I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos!
Back in the day we used to have to install grease fittings in the upper control arm bushings, as Ford cheaped out and put plugs in them. I guess the customer noticed two puddles under the front end? Can't wait to see the 427 Mustang done !
To Dan E Boyd: I understand the white walls but the Torque Thrust wheels are a timeless 60s hot rod rims! I love em! Steve McQueens 68 Mustang in the movie Bullitt made those wheels iconic👍🏁
Panel bond (PBA) is stronger than welds if used correctly and appropriately. HOWEVER.... the floor and frame rails of a unibody convertible are definitely considered structural components of this car, and PBA should NOT be used as a construction method. Even large (non-structural) sheetmetal panels must be backed up by welded flex points to ensure proper strength and durability. I'd really like to see what this car looks like underneath after a year of driving. Looks super-solid otherwise! Good tips, as always Chris!!
Did disc brakes on the wifes impala, new lines , everything. Im so used to bleeding brakes on Aussie cars so always start at the left rear . Wouldn't bleed ,im thinking what the hell, then realised the brake lines run to the left side first even though its factory rh drive. Cant believe i did that even though i made the lines ha,ha, brakes bleed in 1 minute. Right side is farther away on this car. Just a habit of starting at the left rear .
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 I live just out side of knoxville. I got a 68 coupe that needs driver side frame rail to under driver floor board and torqbox replaced. No one around here dont want to do it. I also got the parts.
All the time. Don’t blame the mechanic. I’m trying to be a classic car guy in a production shop. And doing things the way I think they should be done is sometimes a challenge. To say the least.
personally I too prefer welding to panel bond. but I work at a collision repair/body shop and we use both for different purposes. a lot of OEMs are using panel bond more lately because it's quicker, cheaper, and it can bond dissimilar metals. it also protects against corrosion and it doesn't cause heat distortion like welding. there is some heat due to the chemical reaction. but nothing near welding heat. all that said, I don't think I would put a floor pan in a customer vehicle with panel bond. a trunk pan maybe.
There's been lots of strength test done and panel bond usually wins. The thing is the tests are done on perfect test pieces where materials are perfectly clean and rust free and fitting exactly. Find me a repop panel that fits exactly to the rust free old car your repairing......
Aren't you at least going to spray some black paint on the exposed metal around the floor repairs? I'd suggest some heat applied so you don't break the head pipes.
The floor was too dirty and oily for anything to stick to it. The customer is just going to drive it for summer and bring her back this winter for a full clean, prep and bed liner on the underneath. I've done the exhaust both ways and found doing it cold is better. Heating tends to create kinks and wrinkles when it bends at the point of heat.
Shouldn’t the bleeders be facing up? I haven’t looked at the wilwood systems. As I remember bleeders are faced up to get air out of the caliper. The steel bRaid3d lines are quality opposed to the multi part rubber lines. Good look at getting the mid bracing back in to tie the footwells together.
Yes they should always face up. The Wilwood's have bleeders Top and bottom so they don't need left and right calipers. They actually state in their instructions to bleed from the top nipples😁
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Thats what I thought. Just never seen that before. Kinda cool. Really can’t get the sides reversed in that case. Of course it helps to tighten up your banjo bolts/brake lines 😜

It appears that the company or companies that did the brakes and the exhaust system both considered the job "complete" at about the 80% mark.

Fair question, that hasn't been my experience. I over bend the system by quite a bit and it bounces back probably 60% That way it seems to stay
