    Thank you for sharing this lesson. One of the best things of guitar is that you never stop learning. Andrea's tips are really good and I couldn't stop noticing how beautiful his guitar is. Thanks for sharing with us once again!

      100% my pleasure Richard. There's a couple of comments that reiterate your sentiment of non-stop learning. His tips are absolute gold and you're right in that his guitar is superb. It's POA so I'm guessing it costs a pretty penny too haha.

    This is typical higher musicality in a lesson. Mr. Rogers here plays this extremely well. Mr. De Vitis takes it all to a very detailed level, and I have had this before in masterclasses with Bream and Parkening, The melody has the priority. In this piece, there is a lot going on, but the player has to focus on the melodic line, everything else in an accompaniment. The classical guitar is quite unique in this discipline as very few other instruments are polyphonic. This was a very interesting lesson.

      Hey Allan. It's nice to hear from you again. Andrea really did take it up a notch. I learned so much from the lesson with him and I was very happy to be given permission by the man himself to use his lesson on my channel to benefit the CG community. I hope that anyone else watching the two videos I made with Andrea are also uplifted as I was.

      Hi Malie! All good! Happy to share. I know that most of this stuff is well beyond the average player but I had a strong feeling before I decided to do these videos that it will still be of immense benefit to players that aren't at that level. Just hearing and seeing is enough to get things going and increase awareness of the finer more esoteric aspects of playing.

    • @nbnguitar
      @nbnguitar  6 років тому +1

      Thanks John. So you subscribed to Tonebase! Good call - I'm loving the site. I don't get there as often as I'd like to though. I thought this might be a good idea. A few months ago I was into watching 'reaction' videos where people react to musician's playing stuff. I felt that I could take a different spin on it by showing me 'reacting' to a lesson from a virtuoso.
      Interestingly I just had another lesson with Gohar Vardanyan. She's so sweet. I'm hoping to make a video similar to this one with her critiquing my performance of La Paloma :)

    • @johndaily543
      @johndaily543 6 років тому +1

      It's such a terrific and unique idea. You seem very careful about how much you show, so hopefully there won't be any problems with copyright; this video honestly makes me want to book a session, whereas I was on the fence before. It's a win for your channel, the instructor, Tonebase, and us! :) I'm definitely looking forward to your lesson with Gohar Vardanyan, as she'd be the guitarist I'd be most interested in learning from (tied with Thomas Viloteau). I really like her instructional series with Strings By Mail, and I've bought several pieces she's offered lessons on. Cheers!

    • @nbnguitar
      @nbnguitar  6 років тому +1

      Thanks John. I showed everything that Andrea taught me in the lesson as I received his permission beforehand so I think we're all good as far as that's concerned.
      Sadly, the lesson I had with Gohar cannot be shown publicly. I had hoped that she would agree but Gohar asked that it be kept private and I must respect her wishes. Please let me know how your lessons her & Thomas go :)

    Thanks for the lesson...I learned something....I like the Joshua flavor.....I been watching (again and again) some of the master-classes of Segovia and Julian Bream. Finally, I "get" some of what they are trying to tell their students (especially from Bream)...having the right dynamics...kind of like this guy Andrea.
    5 STARS!
    --Van

    • @nbnguitar
      @nbnguitar  6 років тому +1

      You're too kind Van. I've noticed that many masterclasses expect people to have a certain depth of knowledge and that is easy to understand. However, here on UA-cam many people can watch the masterclass but they miss the information because the master is explaining to students that already possess a high level of training. In light of this I felt that there was an opportunity for me to act as an interphase by breaking down that esoteric knowledge into something that Joe Bloggs on the street can understand.

    thanks Josh..........decided to learn this piece, one of favourites from when i first introduced to guitar ......over 50 years ago. I am learning from three teachers on web: Bradford Werner (This is Classical Guitar); Allen Matthews (Classical Guitar Shed) and Simon Powlis ( Classical Guitar Academy. Your video with Andrea was very helpful.........especially the dynamics between melody and accompaniment and use of apoyando. What has thrown me off is the ornaments......Allen prefers to play ornament before beat and Bradford differs in playing ornament on beat ,as long as ornament doesnt affect the rhythm. I initially learned according to Bradford suggestion so trying to relearn it is not easy. Any advice would be welcome. Mike at pichis@shaw.ca. All the Best and you have a very engaging friendly manner by the way.

    • @nbnguitar
      @nbnguitar  2 роки тому

      G'day Mike. I am familiar with all 3 of the guitarists that you mentioned, and they each bring something new and exciting to the realm of UA-cam classical guitar instruction. As far as the ornaments go I'd just play them the way you prefer to hear them :)

    Love it! Ha ha. Josh, you (I feel) are a super technically sound player. No offense to Andreas, a phenomenal musician, but I can do without the melodrama... how about you? Keep on doing what you’re doing; besides, I much prefer learning from someone who gives of his knowledge freely- to anyone who wants to learn classical style playing- the flowery stuff we can worry about later. Thanks for all you do and for sharing your experience with us!

    • @nbnguitar
      @nbnguitar  6 років тому

      Haha thanks Valerie. Sometimes I feel pretty good technically and other days it's like can I even play this infernal contraption. I guess we all have those days where we're on fire and then we're not. I felt that Andrea's tips lifted me to another level. I didn't agree with everything but then again I don't have to and it's our prerogative to sometimes disagree with experts and just do things our own way. I'm always happy to share :)

    I think finger alternation is better esthetically then repeating same finger consecutively.
