I have a ton of trouble mixing pastels too I always end up a little two bright but a wash or two with head and shoulders gets me to my destination
I'm sure you've already thought of this but if that's sharpie in your bangs have you tried using strong rubbing alcohol to remove it? Sharpies use an alcohol ink, so anything 80% or above should work for reactivating it to get it off.
