That old white woman wasn’t the problem, in fact, she raised an important question that has a direct impact on Black New Yorkers. We have an exorbitant rent crisis in NYC and it went even higher under Eric Adams. He pressure on him and to know us New Yorkers are tired of being overcharged for rent.
Agreed but if you don't live in public housing or rent stabilized housing, what can he possibly do? The best they can do is what they did when they decided that if your landlord is going to raise your rent more than 5 percent, they have to give you notice. 30 days if you live somewhere for a year 60 days for 2 years 90 days for 3 years in above. Other than that it's free market.

This is over rent prices. It had nothing to do with race. Adams' had told people that, if they can't afford rent, they should take in an illegal immigrant and the city would pay them. There's no way to do effective background checks in that situation.

To be honest, she did not come across as that disrespectful considering NY is understood to be quite a rude city in general. Him talking about being a man and his mother's advice to him made him seem more of a boy than anything else. In general, a man does not have to explain to people that he is a man, it should be self evident.

Her pointing at him was disrespectful. The woman doesn't like the fact that her rent is being raised. Because she is in a rent controlled building, it isn't being raised by hundreds or thousands of dollars. It's being raised by tens of dollars. There is a mindset among some people that rent controlled is supposed to mean rent is never raised - meaning whatever you paid in the year of 1990 is what you are supposed to be paying in 2023. While that would be a nice fantasy for one to hold onto, it's extremely unreaslistic, especially when one considers the fact that the building owner's costs for building maintenance, heat, hot water, and property taxes are not frozen to 1990 levels; they increase every year.

A lot of old ladies like this in New York City are sitting on large apartments in tony neighborhoods, paying rents that haven't been seen since 1982 because their rental rates are regulated by a City Rent Board. And they live in buildings that did not rent to Black people when they moved in those apartments. She's complaning because her rent increased 2.5% instead of zero. Sounds rather entitled to me. I have no empathy for her and understand Mayor Adams having no patience with her. Would she talk to Joe Biden that way about gas prices?
