    Hellebuyck’s playoff record: 18-27, rather pedestrian.

    The fact of the matter they weren’t anywhere near good enough and ready come playoff time is so telling with a team as veteran as the jets are. They played 1 “decent” game out of 5. Major holes on the right side of d. Re signing demelo to play top pairing would be a mistake. Lots of questions surrounding bones and staff too particularly when it comes to roster deployment. Keeping status quo is not going to cut it anymore. Thanks for the content guys always enjoy!!

    The weak blueline was exposed. The defense has been pedestrian for the past 2 season, but no changes were made and people kept writing it off because of how the stats looked. But when you drilled down to it, most of the D are not great at handling the puck, and they are too slow. Morrissey is the only decent skater they have on the blueline.
    And what was the main difference in this series compared to the regular season? They inexplicably abandoned their defensive structure. The key to them limiting high danger chances and shots was the guys staying in their structure. And they just don't have the personnel to be effective when they abandon their structure. And what that led to was the Avs constantly caving in the Jets and having a lot of offensive zone time and making it a shooting gallery. Lowry even admitted that they weren't expecting the Avs to forecheck as heavily as they did. Helly didn't play his best, but the guys in front of him were terrible. 10 of the 24 goals scored were screened shots that he did not see. And that means the Jets players weren't clearing the front of the net to allow Helly to see pucks. Even Avs fans are saying it's stupid to put all the blame on Helly. The team in front hung him out to dry.
    The changes will need to start at the blueline. It can't be avoided any longer. Gotta re-sign either Dillon or DeMelo, but not both. Stanley needs to go. He should not get another contract. And Ehlers, as much as I like the guy, should be dealt to get a legit top 4 D-man. Heinola will need to play, as the Jets need another d-man that has speed and move the puck. Hard moves will need to be made. That's the business.

    The Jets placed all their eggs on Hellebuyck. Laurent Broissoit should not resign for next season.

    GM keeps saying “ya know”. Actually I don’t know. The jets were out played on many levels. Word salad on definition of intensity was bizarre . I don’t know what the GM was watching but you can’t fix it if you don’t see the problem .

    personally, i don't think we seen Jets best structure game, maybe a little of it in game 5! Avs brought there 'A' game & Jets didn't! hope its better next yr. i really thought we were gonna go a deep run! but we were one of top teams in the NHL! regular season, am sick of win1 lose 4 in a row, change this next year!!

    • @SportsTalkWPG
      @SportsTalkWPG  16 днів тому

      you'd be surprised with some of the comments i've seen. I also think it's tough for a guy to have so many goals go by him when it's not something he's used to.

    • @pomerlain8924
      @pomerlain8924 16 днів тому

      Exactly. Even Avs' fans have said it's not on Helly as he had no help in front of him. Sure he could have played better, but no team can keep continuously giving up high danger chance after high danger chance and expect the puck to say out of the net, no matter who the goalie is. 10 of the 24 goals Helly allowed were screen shots that he couldn't see. That means the guys weren't moving Avs players out of the lanes to allow Helly to see the puck.
      And you look at why Helly was so good this regular season, and it was because the defense in front of him was also much better. They protected the middle area and kept a lot of shots to the outside. And on the rare occasions that they did give up a high danger chance, Helly was there to erase it. That team defense disappeared from the moment the puck dropped in Game 1.

    I think this entire conversation and the criticism of the team is completely going on the wrong track. In last years off-season no one bet a penny on the Jets to make the playoffs, now they finished their season with 110 points. OK they had a terrible playoff series against a team that might win the Stanley Cup. And now I read comments to tear a successful team to shreds? The teams quality is pretty good there is a lot of talent, there have been no locker room problems and next years playoffs are in reach. So just cool down, let the playoff series rest a few days and then plan for the coming season. All in all it was a pretty good season.

    • @pomerlain8924
      @pomerlain8924 16 днів тому

      Sorry, but this is a piss poor attitude. It was a better regular season, but the playoff result was still the same. That's not good enough. And this crap about losing to a team that will probably win the cup is a defeatist mindset. They lost. End of story.
      Moves need to be made. The blue line has needed upgrading for the past two years, and their lack of speed and puck handling ability was exposed by the Avs during these playoffs. The Jets need a top 4 defenseman, and Schmidt and Pionk need to be traded/bought out. And if it takes trading away Ehlers or Appleton in order to get a top 4 defensemen then it needs to be done. This is a business about winning. Not just being satisfied with good regular seasons.

    • @stefanbonat1628
      @stefanbonat1628 16 днів тому

      @@pomerlain8924 Pionk had 33 Points and a +9 last season with 217 points overall. If you trade him for a top 4 defenceman, you get one and let the other one go. Does not make sense. DeMelo had 31 point and a +46, the second best in the NHL. Dillon had a +20. There is no sense in trading away Ehlers for a defensemen of the quality the Jets already have. Toffoli and Monahan are UFAs so who is going to fill the gap Ehlers will leave?
      The problem for the disappointing playoff series was a lack of commitment throughout the team. The playoffs require 130% , teams like Vegas or the Avs have that mindset. They taught the Jets another painful lesson, at least Helly figured that out.

    • @pomerlain8924
      @pomerlain8924 16 днів тому

      @@stefanbonat1628 Have you seen Pionk defensively? His points do not matter. He is constantly on the wrong side of the play, and his coverage is terrible. And on top of that he is constantly turning over the puck? He's trying to make blind BH passes through the middle of the ice. His defensive liabilities make him expendable. And Ehlers is too hot and cold. He looks great at times, but there are other times where he constantly turns over the puck and disappears. Not to mention, he was a ghost in the playoffs. He has 4 goals in 37 playoff games. Your problem is that you keep thinking there will be nobody as good in return if these players leave. That's a terrible mindset. This is the business of winning. And in the business of winning, hard moves need to be made to improve the team. Not just keep guys because you don't think anyone else will fill their roles as effectively. And the defense has been an issue for years. A legit top 4 d-man that can skate well move the puck is very much needed. They also need a physical defenseman that will clear the front of the net.
      And the fact that guys, like Ehlers, who were with the team in 2018, are still saying we need to learn to play with the right intensity for the playoffs should be a red flag. The fact that there's was a timeout and not every player was engaged and focused on the coach, like the Avs' players were is also concerning. And you can't keep running it back and hoping the same players learn another lesson. Change needs to come. That's the business.
