In over 40 years of going to concerts and recitals and listening to classical music at home, I cannot recall a more precise and emotive performance of the Paganini variations. I've watched this performance five times already on BBC I-Player and still the hairs on my neck tingle and the goose-bumps start from the very first bars to the magnificent final flourish. What a talent, what a maestro, what a gift for classic music lovers throughout the world - and Martin is still only 17!.
I totally agree with Nick Rawlins, I was sitting reading in my living room and Young musician of the year was on, it's one of our favourite programmes. When Martin started to play I looked up because his playing gave me goose~bumps two bars in! I've lost count of the times I've re~watched his performance and it thrills me every time. This young man will go so far in the music world, and it is a treat to see someone play with such passion! Thanks for sharing this video. Oh and Nick, his earlier performance a few years back in the contest is worth a watch, too.
