I haven't uploaded recently. But I've been obsessed with this song. So, enjoy this lyric video done by me.
My opinion on this song is that it's less of a love song between two people and more so about self discovery and love. Like a person with depression or anxiety and they have two voices. One wants to chase the moon while the other wants to stay behind and not experience life due to past sadnesses or anxieties. It's about learning to overcome and love yourself. Self romance.

That kind of fits in with the context of the song as it was written abt him and Danielle (as obsessed fans make death threats to his gf). To go with what you said, he wants to love her freely but there’s opposition. This is kind of his ode to her and the idea that he’ll continue to love her and disregard those who try to reject that (“watch as you all disappear”)
in the end, it’s just them and that’s what matters most.

He wrote this song for his girlfriend at the time, and he basically is talking about how he sometimes wanted to just disappear with her and spend the rest of his life with her, away from everyone else.
I thought it was about running away or fighting from people who won't accept you? Because as far as I know, just like the other replies, the inspiration was taken from Vic's gf at the time getting hated on.

Okay, I have weird feelings about this song.
This song is a summer night with your friends, just before the school year starts up. This song is the last few days of staying out late in the golden sunsets before the routine sets back in. You can just FEEL the warm, dark air wrapping around you while you mess around and do nothing with your favorite people. It's the painful happiness you feel when you think back on that, wishing you could do it again but feeling the pain of not being able to.
I know that's not the meaning of the song, but I just feel it. This is all mostly associated with just standing at the barrier with my eyes closed, feeling the heat from the lights on my face, listening to this live. I don't know. I'm just feeling things.
