  • Unveiling the Gospel: Mary's Vision and the Disciples' Struggle
The Gospel of Mary, also known as the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, is a non-canonical text that provides insights into Mary Magdalene's perspective and teachings. Although fragmented and incomplete, this ancient manuscript has sparked scholarly interest and discussions about the role of Mary Magdalene in early Christianity.
The Gospel of Mary is believed to date back to the 2nd century, and the surviving copies are written in Coptic. The text is part of the Nag Hammadi Library, a collection of Gnostic texts discovered in Egypt in 1945. The Gnostic tradition emphasizes personal spiritual knowledge and experience, often departing from mainstream Christian beliefs.
The Gospel of Mary is divided into several sections, and its content includes dialogues between Mary Magdalene and other disciples, particularly Peter and Andrew. The text begins with a scene after Jesus' resurrection, where Mary shares revelations she received from the risen Christ. The narrative then delves into the disciples' struggle to comprehend and accept Mary's teachings.
One significant aspect of the Gospel of Mary is its portrayal of Mary Magdalene as a prominent disciple with unique insights into Jesus' teachings. In some sections, Mary is depicted as having a closer spiritual connection with Jesus than the other disciples. This has led scholars to explore the role of Mary Magdalene in the early Christian community and question the traditional narrative that often marginalized her.
Throughout the text, Mary emphasizes the importance of inner spiritual knowledge and the journey of the soul. She speaks of the ascent of the soul through various realms and addresses the nature of evil and the human condition. The Gospel of Mary also contains discussions about the material and spiritual worlds, shedding light on Gnostic cosmology and theology.
One notable passage in the Gospel of Mary involves a dispute among the disciples, particularly Peter's resistance to accepting Mary's teachings. This confrontation highlights tensions within the early Christian community regarding authority and the interpretation of Jesus' message. Mary's role as a teacher challenges established hierarchies and invites reflection on the diverse perspectives within the early Christian movement.
The Gospel of Mary concludes with an account of Mary's visions and her departure from the community. The fragmented nature of the text leaves room for interpretation, and scholars continue to debate the significance of Mary Magdalene's role in the early Christian movement based on this gospel.
In summary, the Gospel of Mary offers a unique glimpse into the beliefs and teachings associated with Mary Magdalene in early Christian Gnostic communities. It contributes to ongoing discussions about the diversity of early Christian thought and challenges traditional narratives surrounding certain figures, particularly Mary Magdalene, within the Christian tradition.

The being a repentant sinner and a disciple/apostle is not mutually exclusive but in fact neccessary. Those who walk with Him through the Door and out again to find true pasture, both know and understand Mary very well and know her intimately. The kingdom is within.

Mary in reality is my bible hero! I love her divine wisdom and sense of sharing, giving and the right for a woman to speak at that time. Her family from Magdala could have learnt a lot from her instead of shunning her because she would not marry someone the family chose especially her brothers. I dearly adore her!

Once again Mary is silenced as a mansplaining elder paraphrases and projects his own understanding onto the gospel of Mary Magdelaine. What a lost opportunity!! Read out her words! Those who keep her gospel hidden are against Christ😡 as Levi said, Who Are You to deny her?

That was a SPIRITUAL Wife and not a Literal Wife... For Christ Jesus is the GROOM (Husband) and the CHURCH (Christianity) is the BRIDE (Wife)... which implies, UNITY/UNITED as ONE with Motherly, Brotherly, and Sisterly LOVE Relationship for one another (foes alike), and not the Romantic/Sexual Love called EROS in Greek...
Facts and Truth of the Matters, Biblically and logically speaking... Praise be to God in Christ... Amen and Amen.

The bible was cobbled together centuries after the event, undoubtably influenced by contemporary culture, by people not at the event, and as a content judgement based on the realities of a later time. It’s about a man written by men who clearly had their own doubts. The original and subsequent times forbad women a voice or opinion. But, the Jesus I understand would likely have had normal relations with a women and that deep understanding you have with a woman, behind closed doors, may not necessarily conform to the norms expected on the other side of this door. Only a brief amount of Jesus’ life is outlined in the scriptures and so it begs for an appreciation of what transpired at the other times. So tell me truthfully, what is it that insists on this truth? I seldomly see people acting as Jesus is portrayed anyhow. He is portrayed as having no regard for Leviticus in particular and the hate that is revealed, was not concerned about race nor gender and was giving of everything. Im happy to hear other teachings. Im prepared to keep an open mind and find fault in dogma.

@@GKEL18 You’re giving reverence to a living God, who interacts with Creation, who interacts with us, who both teaches us and learns from us, the God of Love who Jesus spoke of - Not the dead war god of Leviticus. Let the dead bury the dead; we are living, here and now, and we are embraced by a living God, and the sign of this God’s truth is that we love one another 🫶✨
