Forging Hexagonal Barstock

- Tooling experiment using the 25 ton. With a "shelf" off the back of the machine, one can extend their tooling. So, this is the idea: Templates that bolt to the bar to be forged, along with height blocks to control the forged dimension. Why make hex bar? I need it for the next project, looked all over town and no one had it. Also, to order a batch is costly, 5 times the cost of round bar. This setup will be perfect for small batches and for prototyping. All the best,
John Rigoni

Fascinating jig! So perfectly useful that I’m a bit embarrassed I didn’t think of it myself
Another plus from forging a hex...all mechanical properties of the steel used are very much improved, tensile strength, resistance to bending, twisting, toughness, ect.
very clever! your approach to tooling is always a treat to see!
It's been 10 months. You must have been practising, those lines are so crisp.
Real blacksmith.
Thank you!
Man that jig, so simple yet so smart! :)
I’ve been hurting for a Rigoni video!
Mate, that jig is very clever... very well thought out indeed.
Your work is excellent, thanks for sharing ,greetings
Impressive and precise as usual… thanks very much for sharing!
Beautiful work. Glad doc e turned me onto your channel. Hope to build a small forge myself now that I'm retired. Love your precise approach to creating thjngs.
Good stuff!
That’s so smart! Love the jig
Got to love this man’s work very inspirational!
Great to see you back it’s always a treat watching your technique
That's just nuts! (hex nuts, in waiting . . . )
Just out of curiosity, what are the beginning dimensions and final dimensions? It looks near perfect, very well done.
Thanks, the starting stock is 1" round. I machined some slack in the tooling to account for random hot rolled barstock. The finished forging is 3/4" hexagon.
@@rigoniironworks how much length did that add?
From 1 to 3/4 it almost doubles in length. 20min to forge 20".
10/10 jig game
Very nice! 🙂 Like this Job! Without tools from 19th Ct and 20th Ct. you would be a little more like Arnold Schwarzenegger right? 😀 Better like you are, looks normal! I have to remember Asterixs Ironworker/Village-Smith.
10 месяцев без видео, и как гром среди ясного неба
Yes Sir! I needed a break from making videos, was getting burned out. I'm back now with a long list of new projects to make and film!
@@rigoniironworks that's quite funny, earlier today I was watching a Torbjörn Åhman video that mentioned you, so I looked at your channel and was a bit sad to see you hadn't made a video in so long.
Glad to watch a new vid of yours!
That’s a fantastic setup and workflow!
Saudades . Muito tempo sem vídeos .
Pentagonal next! 😆
you know you can just buy hex bar right ? lol
For sure. I was in a bind, where none were local and I would have to buy a large order+wait two weeks. This tooling helps me bridge the gap.
So nice to see you back -- feared you'd gotten caught by the derecho.
Not yet! We had some crazy tornadoes, wild fires and flooding this year but I'm still kicking.
It would be nice if you at least say hello😊
Hello !😉
@gerry343 it's just that I like to watch a video that feels like I'm visiting a friend shop for a bit, just saying hey. Staying out of the way, watching what they are doing. When there is nothing said it is almost as if I am intruding and should not be there.
For these videos, I want the viewer to see the process as if they are standing in the shop as I'm working. I despise ego, so I don't look at the camera, have a cliche series of dialogue, etc.. It's not about me, just the beauty of the work and process. Also, my work revolves around pushing the craft forward and new tooling and ideas to get there.
