@@C.Pineda2018 I'd say it is not that much modified. It is still a certified model of the BO-105 and therefore no modifications are allowed. The BO-105 was previously designed to be a anti-tank helicopter. For superior handling it was equiped with a rigid rotor that was also mounted on the successor BK-117 and later on the four bladed H145 before it was upgraded to a five blade rigid and bearingless rotor.
@@dacat8171 Chuck himself said at his Wright Brothers award ceremony this past summer that Red Bull essentially gave him a blank check to modify the helicopter as necessary. It’s certified in the experimental category. No normal helicopter can do this stuff.
@@C.Pineda2018 You're wrong and I am right. As mentioned in my first post that helicopter was designed to be an anti-tank helicopter with superb manoeuvrability. Key to success is the hingeless rigid rotor head which makes control input very direct, but also causes a relatively high vibration level. That being said all standard BO-105 are looping capable. When the BO came into military service aerobatics were displayed to publics occasionally on certain events. RB was not a registered trademark at this time. 'Rammstein incident' changed everything in terms of public dynamic displays in Germany and thus public helicopter aerobatics was over. Two of the RB BO-105 are German registered, used to be law enforcement helicopters in their previous lives and are allowed to perform aerobatics officially although stock BO105. The loads on the helicopter during aerobatics are not extremely high and thus limit loads are never exceeded. That comes into play because the lifetime of these helicopters is limited to a relatively small number of hours. But lifetime gets extended on a regular basis by the OEM as the limit loads are never exceeded, because these manoeuvres are more or less 'natural' BO105 manoeuvres. There is that rumor that the RB 105 is mounted with extra stiff rotor blades, runs higher main rotor RPMs and has got an extra amount of FWD-CG. That is not true. Only reason is to make people aware of not performing aerobatics on their own with their stock BO105, because special pilot training is required. It is impossible to modify these parameters only by a lunatic pilot only because he is in the mood to, as these modifications would cause a severe change in the rigging and the rotor loads. Bare in mind that this helicopter underwent a very long certification process 50 years ago and the OEM clearly has got no intentions to spend additional money when there are already two successors in service. BTW the rotor head of the four bladed H145 is the same as the BO105 - > 50 years old. Long story short: All helicopters with a hingeless rotor head are capable of 'looping' e.g. Tigre, H135, H145, NH90 just to name a few.
