I love both of these games, but Wrath of the White Witch feels much more like a classic fairy tales story and the art style created by Studio Ghibli is just perfect

Wrath of the White Witch: A traditional JRPG with a fairy tale story.
Revenant Kingdom: An action JRPG with Fire Emblem esc tactical gameplay and story.

Love the story of the 1st one and i hate the combat system. I haven't beaten the last boss in yrs. The combat system ruined what should've been my favorite game. As for 2. I prefer the combat system but the story is stupid

Yeah, not liking the combat system is quite common but I like it...its an odd mix of live action, turn based and familiars but it doesn't work for a lot of people

I just started Revenant kingdom and it's def a learning curve with how different it is from Wrath of the white witch. I miss the familiars and the skirmishes are def hard for me to get the hang of.... I def like the storyline and world building in Wrath of the White Witch a lot more.... The battle system in RK is still hard for me, how to heal in battle, using magic, and higgledies it's all still confusing but I am only in the Chapt 5 so still early on. Thanks for the vid

I definitely missed the familiars system when I played Revenant Kingdom. They brought them back for Cross Worlds (kind of) but I have no interest in mobile games or auto-play MMOs :( - Heather

Looking back without nostalgia, I find 2 to be way more enjoyable. The combat is better, the city building is fun, there's tons to do in the game. 1 wins for the music, the art style and the overall journey, but the gameplay and the less interesting side-content made it way less enjoyable for me. As I game I prefer 2, but 1 would have made an amazing Ghibli anime.

I love both but I prefer 2. The combat in 1 becomes monotonous after so many battles. It's not as complicated as people make it seem. Plus I got immersed in the kingdom building which I hope is in the next. Story wise 1 is way better but the studio ghibli animation was not a present as fans make it seem. That animation style was reserved for specific cut scenes and doesn't appear much which let me down a bit

Both are amazing! With that said though skirmishes in the second one weren't my cup of tea. The first does feel more magical in a way and really makes you feel like a wizard in training with the wizards companion and such. The second I dont remember being super immersed in the world but it still had it's great times. Plus being a loot junkie it was great seeing new weapons. Second is in my opinion more difficult too.

It’s too bad they stopped making Ni No Kuni games but maybe that’s for the best because we will never get a Ni No Kuni that’s as great as the first game.

I agree...they did do Cross Worlds on mobile and PC but there was a lot of stuff that deterred me from playing. I would love a NNK 2 that sticks with the first game mechanics and world

The beginning of Wrath of the White Witch is already interesting when you see the characters, it feels like a real fantasy fairytale. And the idea of soulmates is really interesting. The only difficult part for me was the gameplay but the story became my motivation to learn it as I have no experience is jrpgs. Collecting spells and being able to use them on the overworld is great too. The ghibli anime cutscenes made it feel classic too

It's a great game to start with if you haven't played a JRPG before 🙂 I can recommend a few great ones if you're interested in getting into those kinds of games?

A fair assessment of both games…I’m with Heather and prefer White Witch…which is one of my favourite games of all time…but I loved Revenant Kingdom too. Think you were a bit harsh about the ‘weak’ story and characters but you were spot on about the skirmishes which sucked!

I think that wrath of the white witch is better because of the time that it was made it has to deal with all the limitations. If it were to be made bigger it could be the best game ill ever play.

I love both for very different reasons. Personally I prefer action RPG gameplay so the battle system in Revenant Kingdom is my preference, though I do prefer wrath of the white witch’s story. Again both games are fantastic and I always recommend them. It just comes down to preference for each person

I love both of these games. I definitely prefer the combat in 2 as the whole collect, train, and constantly swapping familiars in battle to be tedious. Just trying to find the very specific familiar and taming it tended to be more annoying than it was worth. There are reasons that I enjoy both stories. 1 for the whimsical and expansive story, 2 for a more grounded story that still keeps me really engaged (the dread I got during chapter 7 of 2 and my feelings towards the leaders of the kingdoms slowly changing as their personal stories went on). I've put so much time in these games that I simply can't choose which one is the best. They are both fun and charming in their own way.

i have 300 hours in the 2 nd one .beat everthing and the dlc s . simply play to get the most high end stuff now .i later bought the 1st one ,only got a few hours in it .i know its a great game but i just havent gotten around to beating it. i love the 2ned one although i wish there was more done with the over world and i wish that the game didnt have Roland completely ditch his old life with no question and even just never brings it up again lol . that level of acceptance was so annoying like i guess the deves just didn't want to deal with Roland life at all. just a few winks here and there and that it. i loved that they put 3 different RPG plays styles in the game tho but i will say that the pace of the 2nd one is odd to me ,i guess its guess u are trying to establish a whole kingdom, get people to join , save the world and protect the kingdom. its all great ideas but when u sit and think about it in context , it makes no sense so the pacing feels weird for that matter lol

are you aware of a full guide to Ni no kuni WotWW? I played the game as a wee little kid, and never explored beyond what the game made obvious; i never changed familiars from the starters, i couldn't figure out any strats and tricks to make my game easier- your videos have helped immensely but my ever growing fixation on the game has a chokehold on me to know every detail.

Yes, I did a guided walkthrough of Wrath of the White Witch with narration, commentary and tips. It took a year to do and is a 48 video playlist (without post game stuff yet) haha! My audio/narration isn't great in the first few videos since it was early days for the channel but it does get better...here's the link to the playlist, hope this helps: ua-cam.com/play/PL-nmL17w5Wy70lbAhcEbHicavh4Z4bon2.html

I like them both a lot, but I think 2 is the better game the first time you play it. Wrath of the White Witch has better replay value though.

Both of them are amazing, and its unfair to compare them since they are basically 2 entirely different games.
I preferred the story of white witch, but I preferred the gameplay + longevity of revenant kingdom. Ultimately it comes down to what you are looking for. You want something short and sweet? go with the first one. You want something you are gonna play for hundreds of hours? play the second one with all its dlc
