CAPTIVA ISLAND - 4 MONTHS AFTER IAN
Вставка

- In this video we will do a drive through of Captiva Island , 4 months after Ian and see the recovery and restoration well in progress . We will see the damage but also see the homes that are being restored, and businesses that are starting to reopen, including the Mucky Duck , the Bubble Room, Bayside Bar & Grill, and McCarthy's Marina . Captiva was devastated but there is so much going on to return this paradise to normalcy .
Mother Nature. Absolutely heartbreaking, Gonna take Decades to have the Amazing Tropical Palm and Pine Canopy. It's still a very special place. 😢. Viva Captiva! Always. ♥
Appreciate you keeping us up to date on what’s happening. You do a lovely job. It’s a talent!
Captiva’s beach is looking good. On a positive note, Ian took out all the old shoddy buildings. When things get rebuilt (If they do), it will be with modern construction methods for hurricane zoning.
Loved The Bubble Room. Sad to see it closed. It will not ever be the same again.
Thanks for sharing. We vacation on Captiva, and love the Mucky Duck. Glad to see it survived and reopened.
Thank you for documenting the condition of the island. I have family who were displaced by the hurricane. It is devastating to see what residents are facing.
Great job
Thank you for the update. Sad to see the damage of such a beautiful place.
lots of damage but it coming back , will take a while
Thank you for sharing the progress towards restoration from the devastation of Hurricane Ian in late September 2022.
will be doing another updated video in April
We visited Sanibel and Captiva in 2008, it was beautiful. Had lunch at Doc Ford's (it's re-opened, yea!). I have to say, however, that I don't know, I know many hope that this is a one-off, that it won't happen again in 100 years, but extreme weather events like this are more and more common around the world. I have to say that if I owned one of those beautiful homes and it had been damaged, I'd get it restored, then I'd have to think long and hard about staying or selling.
Thanks for sharing this. Its good to see that restorations are under way
Thanks Roman , it sure gives us all hope
The first time I crossed that bridge from Sanibel and Captiva I felt like I had dropped into a tropical paradise. I absolutely loved that place in all its glorious greenery. So sad to see this devastation. Glad to see they are making a come back!
Yes Vicki , it will return and it is coming back
I feel the same way, I don’t think we’ll be headed there this year, not sure if there’s anywhere else quite like our beloved Sanibel and Captiva Islands.
It will never be the same again
Beautiful share sir♡🌊 Thank you~🌿🪸
thanks Lisa for your kind words
Thank you for filming Sanibel Island. I felt so bad when I saw all the devastation they experienced. I live between Buffalo & Rochester NY. My grand parents retired to Port Charlotte Florida in the early 60`s. I visited & stayed on Sanibel, the beaches &the island were so beautiful. I enjoyed the Bubble Room there, it was so much fun. I also went to the reserve that was closed you showed. My niece lives in Naples area said some of her students lost there houses @ that time. I was wondering how Fort Myers is doing?
It is amazing the recovery and restoration effort has been tremendous all through Sw Florida . ye sit will be ongoing with thousands of roofs left to be repaired , more debris to be haul away , lots of repairs, but it is happening
Would love to see a video of Pine Island, too. My parents lived there for many years.
We ate at the raggedy ass saloon one Christmas on pine island.
Thank you for your video !! Appreciate your time
I enjoyed making it , but it was a little disheartening
I wonder if the “bent tree” is still standing? My kids always looked for that tree heading to the Bubble Room.
So heartbreaking to see.
Did Jenkin’s Marina cottages make it? I loved staying in those cottages and 🎣 fishing.
Jenson’s Marina
WOW... That Blind Pass bridge and 3 miles past deeper into Captiva was a Shaded Tropical roadway... Now, stripped and dead palms. Such a shame. Hopefully nature brings it back... but it surely will be many years.
it will come back, it has started I noticed
Thank you for this. Any news on South Seas?
I will check on my next trip over to Sanibel
Spent lots of time at the bubble room… now destroyed…
Federal flood insurance is now bankrupt…
Rates will be up 1000%…
loved the Bubble Room, hope it can reopen someday
Memories long ago....sad to see.
sad but also hope for its resurrection
I remember the first time I saw Captiva Island in 1976…there was only one road onto the island, and the foliage was so dense, you could not see any homes….good to see the Bubble Room and Tween Waters Inn were still standing, but I wonder about the historic South Seas Plantation….
I wil try to find out Jonathan
@@jonathonspiers8397 I flew over South Seas a month after the hurricane and it did not look good. Seeing the effects of Charley on South Seas, I can only imagine it will be 5+ years until the vegetation begins to fill in to a recognizable level
The natural beauty will come back- but it will take years after buildings get repaired. What won’t be fixed for decades- if ever, will be all the trash and pollution blown into hard to get to areas- mangroves etc. In that respect, the entire region is polluted with material that won’t ever degrade. This is fact, and heart-breaking. Living in expensive real estate within a now massively polluted area is somewhat ridiculous. I’ve seen it with my own eyes too.
you are right Dale, I saw so much debris in the forest, mangroves , very difficult get to
This really makes you think twice about buying in these areas as climate change is making a big impact as well as insurance costs go up!
climate change? no such thing... GTF outta here...
