Dude YES THANK YIU :) I was looking everywhere for a kit to automate my blinds but I could only find tutorials on how to do it myself. And they are not that expensive compared to the mess that I would have needed to do, you are awesome
MK-SmartHouse you may lol. The one thing I just noticed tho, I have Roman shades. I didn’t realize it yet but the servo included is 180. I didn’t buy it yet but I couldn’t tell by the files. My shades also go up with a rod in the middle. Can this be configured to adapt with a continuous Servo? This is at an extremely well price point. Also, could you use 2 motors on one unit? My bedroom window has 2 windows next to each other with two shades next to each other.
Matt, have you considered designing a revised pcb and sketch to allow adding some manual control switch(es) and / or possibly a multi-position rocker switch? In addition to allowing for manual offline control, this could also allow controlling the blinds during a Wi-Fi n/w outage with the use of a back up power source or battery as well. Good job and keep up the excellent work!
I'm being lazy. so I might just buy your kit. but are the working with home assistant or do I have to get out of my laziness and write a custom component my self?

How to coming? i have esp 8266 waiting :P the alexa bit im interested in though.
@Matt Firstly I wanted to congratulate you and say thank you for such a well organized structure on your videos and how you explain everything. I wish I could just order your stuff, but I am in Mexico, and by the time you add shipping etc, it makes it expensive (and no guarantee it would arrive). I have a couple of questions, and would appreciate if you had 5 mins to answer them . 1) would it be possible to use your guide (coming out tomorrow I think) using aNodeMCU chip? 2) I recently made a blinds controller using another guide (with the NodeMCU), but had to disconnect it as with different usb cables, or if the power went out (got unplugged or anything) the servo would "shudder" back and forwards a few times, and would end up breaking the connection where the servo was connected to the metal bar of the blinds (I was using a coupler) (as if the blinds were closed they couldn't move one way any further). Could never figure out how to stop this, could this happen with your setup also? Again Thank you.
Frank Rigby I’ve just ordered the pcb’s and will be doing just that. Installing on vertical blinds with a modified printed bracket to control the beads
Great video! I have a little offtopic question - How did you change the color of your buttons (open/half/close)? In normal openhab basic ui these kind of buttons are pink when activated... and I would love to change them to blue like yours
You probably need some resistance brakes, so you don't rip the gears apart on the servo, when you do that. And then the parts need to reset the settings when taking back control over it, so that the computer and servo knows what to set it to.
Yes, still problem with feedback, so that the device knows that the shades have been moved and where they are set to. But as you can see, there are still posible to raise the shades manually, if one so desire. :-)
Hi, first of all i have to say that your works and your videos are really awesome! I like this project and i would like to automate my motorized blinds (that are not like your because they are very big and heavy and with a much bigger motor moving them by a switch on the wall). So i just need to do a switch setting the 0 position and the 100 position for opening and closing them. Is possibile to do that doing some modification to this project? Many thanks (and sorry for my bad english!)
I want to make a dimmer with the help of esp8266 amd openhab application. Please guide me how to do that. I tested it with the help of arduino UNO just to test my hardware and its working but how to do it with the help of esp8266 and openhab?
Have been working on this project myself recently. Do you have the files for the 3D printed parts for your servo somewhere on your website? I haven't been able to locate them.
I'm not super familiar with OpenHAB, do these blind controllers use Zwave, Zigbee or a different protocol? How difficult would it be to make them operated by a rechargeable battery?
OpenHAB can control any of those protocols, and more. The controller will use some batteries to communicate with the net, and it will take some power to use the servo. But the newer updates to ESP8266 will have better battery saving modes, so maybe feasible.
I you close blinds with the inside to the top, people cannot see in from outside that easily. Closing it with the inside bottom you can have partial view of the inside of the room .....
Nice invention but why the ... did you not censure the Alexa part a.k.a. "Who that should not be named". It just mean against everybody that have her and not change her trigger word.
@@MKSmartHouse I forgot to ask in the mail can this also go with a battery? And see the stats of the battery also, so I know when the battery needs replaced :D would be cool if that is possible.
Hello Mat ,is it possible to use a steeper motor? ,I have roller blinds ,I used some cheap motors and they work great but the arduino software keeps on doping the connection this is what I have :www.thingiverse.com/thing:2392856
I love how you are organized with all the channel and the website , and you also explain all really good and step by step , perfectly. :)

Thank you so much for the kind words, can I use your comment as a testimonial on my website?

Anyone else think that the actual open position is where his app button is 'half'? The blinds are actually closed at both ends of the scale
Yup I agree

Did you try Samsung SmartThings HA binding to control throughout Android and iOS phones, tablets, computers, and Samsung Smart TVs
Do you need a pi for these blinds ..How much is shipping to the UK ?

Could you power this with solar and a rechargeable battery?
Good bit of video. Could the same method be used on vertical blinds? If so I would like to see a video on that.
Thanks.
Frank.

do you think it could also be applied to roman blinds?

I used the mobile app I have not checked out how it looks in the basic ui
Have you made something similar for tubular motors for roller shades? If so, does it work with Google Home?
Great but what if you loose power. Would not keeping the manual operation as well be prudent.
You probably need some resistance brakes, so you don't rip the gears apart on the servo, when you do that. And then the parts need to reset the settings when taking back control over it, so that the computer and servo knows what to set it to.
Right. Maybe another type motor?

I think you could hook up one of those cheap small mini ups that's like a powerbank for blackouts
Could let the old controls be used, by letting them control two switches. And then send XMPP-controls to change the blind.
Great video!!. Will you also post schematics of the PCB in case one wants to do by itself?
+Belen Hedderich yes when the hardware video comes out on Thursday
Many thanks! Will wait for it :)
wow amazing job!!
Finally some 3d printed parts :) I just finished printing my portal gun from Rick and Morty :P
When will you put up the next video? Subscribed!

2 inch blinds with blinds control from my site

How many channels does one ESP8266 board have? I can connect all my 5 blinds together with just one ESP8266 board. Is this possible?
+Danny T no one esp8266 can control 1 blind
really good video and already got one coming.
i can`t wait to see the hardware and software part!
also, can you make a video about light dimming (halogen lamps)! :D keep going with your video`s
can you please give us the schematics for the PCB's please? Great video by the way!
+Jasper van Keulen yes, I will today when the hardware video comes out
thank you!
Does this solution work if you have a password on your MQTT broker? I can't see anywhere in the code for the login details.
Thanks.
thanks a lot thanks thans trilion thnaks
I am asking question : is there any trick for arabic languge for alexa????
thanks
Very well done, I like it.
Hi, which model motorized Blinds are you using? Thanks!
It is on my website
Did you seriously just ask that?
Script for Aqara Smart Curtain?
that color of curtain is so cute, lol

How much for the hole kit ?
They are on the website mksmarthouse.com/shop
Gonna make this also but i am using home assistant :)
I released a video today showing how to connect it to home Assistant enjoy!

I am working on an update to make it quieter
